I think it was Anderson (not sure) who was commenting a few days ago about TL being 3 or 4 steps ahead of everyone else. I'm sure you get the point...real ballplayers respect his knowledge of the game.
-
Unlike some...I am well aware that I am not always right. Enjoy tonight's game.
-
Well, we all have posters whose opinions we enjoy hearing more than others. I'll live.
-
Let's face it...fans are on a high when we win and the depth of despair when we lose. All the situations you mentioned made me upset as well. I was attempting to get people back off the ledge but apparently, it comes across as my being a huge TL booster. For the record...I said when he was being considered I preferred others and was glad when he was fired the first time. Once he was hired...he "is" the manager of my team and I will try to see the good in him. I sure hope that any person hired as a manager knows more about baseball than those of us on this forum.
-
I respect your "opinion".
-
Obtuse=annoyingly insensitive or slow to understand. Well done.
-
I certainly agree with you if you mean there are two sides to most stories.
-
No...I am saying it is inevitable that he will be second-guessed.
-
I get that it's frustrating. I absolutely hate seeing Leury in any game much less last night's debacle. However, for any of us to imply TL doesn't understand situational baseball is just silly. For the record...I think he should start Vaughn in left field every game and Mercedes should never be out of the lineup...Yaz is overrated and Madrigal will be recognized as a star one day by this forum. We all have "opinions" and sometimes they are different than others.
-
We all know that we lost the game last night. I am defending the position of "the manager" being one that is easily second-guessed.
-
Yes...I know. In virtually every game the fans have these feelings. Are your feelings ever wrong? I have seen pitchers get out of jams frequently when I thought he should have been pulled. I would bet that if you or I managed the WS...we would get roasted frequently for our instincts not being quite as good as we think.
-
I get why people are disgusted. Our best starter going against a lousy opponent. I almost assume a win. Managers have decisions of when to pull a pitcher when to pitch hit when to call for a sacrifice bunt, etc. In 162 games these decisions are made by managers and pretty much overlooked when the team wins. Managers look stupid when pitch hitters strikeout or the new reliever gets shelled. My point is...every manager makes fans unhappy some of the time over a long season. Hine sight always has 20/20 vision.

The Commissioner would be willing to give it a go. Anything to change the game from what it has been.

Sounds violent ...but acceptable.

Which pending FA should Sox target at deadline?
poppysox replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Every team including the WS can always use a stud pitcher be he starter or reliever. As for position players...I am happy to play with what I've got thanks. We have a comradery seldom seen on any sports team IMO. Leave it alone. -
Yep...he and Madrigal have been relentlessly bad-mouthed and are among our most productive players. Both players are gritty old-fashioned types. They both help you win ballgames.
-
There are so many fine ballplayers on this team...we all don't need to agree on which ones we like the best. Time to drink the WS Kool-aide and get on board the train...it's about to pull out of the station.
-
I don't see anything but a real nice career. We can't predict 18-year careers for anyone but some do accomplish that type of longevity. Madrigal is as likely as anyone on this team to have a long and successful major league career,
-
The WS will need to show up and play to their capabilities. They look to be good enough to beat a team that would take them for granted.
-
If he plays 15-20 years and gets his 3000 hits with that .330 batting average you mention...he will be in the HOF. BTW...his defense will be better than some here think IMO. He is looking better each day as he is adjusting to the ML game and gets over his shoulder issue.
-
Luke made 42 errors in his first 104 game season. Nellie hit below .200 in his first two partial seasons totaling 39 games. Hall of fame careers requires long and healthy years so really can't be predicted for anyone. I do think Madrigal has the tools to be a special player providing his health holds up.

Twins don't have the pitching for that kind of winning percentage IMO. I am more worried by Cleveland and not very worried at that. We are not playing our best yet and when that happens...lookout. As always...injuries are what scare me.
