It is funny that your grandson taught you about K:BB ratio a few months ago and it launched you into this obsession with it.

I explained my reasoning about the high importance of K to W a while back. I dont have the energy to do it again right now.

  2. Luis Robert has a really good swing. Its short and compact, no high leg kick. Seems like there is a problem with handling breaking balls and sometimes swings at balls out of the zone. Hopefully he gets better with time. Hope he can improve on his K to W, last year in the minors he had a total of 129 ks to only 28 bb. Has good power potential and good speed and most importantly gets alot of hits.

Sox are getting more interesting and exciting by the day.

Maybe Mendick or Cheslor win the starting 2b job and become the enigmatic lead-off hitter.

I was thinking Mendick with a .290 .380 but no steals. That's fine as long as he can get on base.

I think the one thing everybody should agree on is Madrigal is 9 this year.  He’s a rookie, too bad.  I lean towards this.

    1. R Anderson batting champ   Not perfect but I like having our team middle finger up first 😂

    2. S Moncada best hitter

    3. R Abreu just cause it’s what they’ll do

    4. S Grandal good leadoff for inning 2 if they go 1-2-3 in the first.

    5. R Jimenez I’d prefer he switches with Abreu but whatever

    6. R EE I’m sure he’ll be 5 instead of Jimenez because of seniority but ok whatever

    7. L Mazara just because the rookies should be 8-9 but I could see Robert bumping him to 8 at some point.

    8. R Robert  Rookie.  Too bad just play him here in 2019. Solves the problems of pressure, seniority etc.

    9. R Madrigal  Rookie. See above

The older, leadery guys are going to bat ahead of rookies   It’s respect.   Use that to our advantage for building lineups.  Makes it easier for RR and RH.  Let Robert, Madrigal, Jimenez, Mazara etc push Abreu, Granda, EE lower for 2021 by putting up better numbers in 2020.  The opposite way is scary.

I'm down for the respect role but if Madrigal is batting 9th posting .300 .390 with a terrific k to walk and it's a month into the season, then we have to worry about winning games and putting Madrigal first.

this was designed as a post about fantasy baseball, but you can see what I’m saying using the stats in it.

The first batter by the  end of the season gets over 100 more at bats per season than the 8th place in the line up. That has to be taken into account in line up construction over speed.

the real question is who do you want to get the most at bats in your line up.

What I want to do is get on the board first and put pressure on the other team to come back. I want the lead heading into the 6th and 7th so we can give it to the pen to close em down.  I would much prefer the HR hitter like Eloy hitting a home run in the 1st inning with Madrigal and Moncada on base rather than leading Eloy off and getting a solo HR.

Red Sox won a World Series w Betts leading off  He had 32 HR

Yes, but remember that was Betts breakout year. The year before that,2017,he hit .264 with 26 sb and even then was a better than average leadoff hitter. So Boston went into 2018 thinking he would do more like 2017, but he exploded and they just left him as the leadoff hitter. Now they have him bat 2nd with the rise of Devers.

  7. Remember, as Ozzie said, we want the HRs with guys on base. Don't bat HR guys leadoff. I laughed when the Yankees had Judge leading off or even batting 2nd.

  8. Robert struck out and barely walked last year in AAA and should not be in the leadoff hole at this point. I'd line em up like this.

    1)Madrigal 2B

    2)Moncada 3B

    3)Abreu 1B

    4)Jiminez LF

    5)Encarnacion DH

    6)Mazara RF

    7)Grandall C

    😎

    8)Anderson SS

    9)Engel CF

  9. With what have, Madrigal for sure should lead off.  Madrigal looks even better to me as a 2 hitter but we just don't have anyone that is prototypical leadoff hitter, .280, .380 40 sb guy.

I would never let Leury leadoff, his k to walk is very bad. He had a .310 obp last season.

😂 Even though this is a toast against me, I get more laughs out of this message board than anywhere else.

In reality, it will be neat to have all these weapons at our disposal and interesting to see how Ricky uses them in our lineups.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New year to All!

I wonder if we could get Brandon Marsh from the Angels for McCann as it was noted by the MLBExec guy that this was one of the teams that was interested in him.

That would be a really good long term get for RF....left handed...plus arm/plus defense, high OBP.

If there is anyone I want on the Angels it's David Fletcher!

What we know for sure is Collins was a top 10 pick in the draft, led all of college in walks, led all the minor leagues in walks and he's 24 and a lefty and catches.   We know that a keen batting eye translates positively, eventually, in the majors and power translates.

    This^^^^^^

  13. Yes Michaelangelo, I agree, there is also the fact we have these good prospects and now we are not using them even in a back up role. I would have preferred to use Collins this year instead of EE, but it is what it is. Now I'm looking forward to see if EE can do what he did last season, although my prediction is that he will decline. Any injuries we will see Collins up. Maybe they can also give him some reps in right field in AAA.

  14. This in my opinion is a poor signing. The 37 year old EE is declining and has blocked Collins who in my opinion would have put up better numbers that EE this season. Like I said before put Collins in RF, Mazara in CF. Yes, I'm sticking to my guns, Luis Robert is too raw and nothing compared to Frank Thomas. Thomas in the minors and his whole career had phenomenal plate discipline and eye. Robert in the minors  last season had 129 KS to 28 bb.
