  1. No, Im saying it may be of no use to sign Hamilton if we already have Engel.  Engel is terrific defensively too. Kind of a risk, but with a good farm system its worth a try and we can save the money for pitching. Here is the thing.

For Engel to stay and play at the MLB level he has to:

    1)Keep up stellar D

    2) Hit and get on base regularly

3)get a full time shot at leading off and stealing bases.

Hamilton has never stolen 60 bases in the majors. He got 59 in 2017 (with a sub 30% OBP), and the last two seasons he stole 34 & 22 while getting on base at less than 30%. He can't hit and doesn't get on base enough.

If we already have Hamilton in Engel, why not just trust in Adam Engel to leadoff and play CF?  If things dont work out, we can pick from the farm.

    Man, we have Engel.

Hmmm.interesting take... We have been waiting for Engel for years, but he hasnt been ready to hit MLB pitching. Still, I like that you are thinking, we should give Engel a look for sure if we dont sign a CF.  Engel can go get em too. Maybe he comes into spring hitting and getting on base and stealing like crazy. That would be the best scenario, because Engel is only 27.

  4. Yes, I was thinking that if we dont get a CF leadoff hitter with speed, Madrigal would be the next best option at leadoff. Dont expect 60 SB (as would could with Hamilton) but Madrigal could pop for may 25-30, no? And Madrigal would hopefully get on base alot. If Madrigal shows in spring he is up to his old tricks of hitting and walking, then he should make the opening day roster, especially if we dont get a Hamilton(or Hamilton himself) type player.

I’ve said it many times now, but the one guy who makes a ton of sense to me for RF is Brandon Nimmo.  Now to get him, what if instead of dealing with the Mets directly, we do a three way trade that gets them the CF they desire.  The most obvious partner for this scenario would be the Pirates with Starling Marte.  He seems like a guy that is almost certain to be moved this offseason and there are already rumors of the Mets’ interest:

Given the Pirates appear to be on the cusp of a rebuild they would likely be willing to take some prospects that aren’t major league ready.  Would a package built around Collins, Stiever, & Walker potentially work?  I know there’s no top 100 prospect in there (cue Balta stating the package is worthless), but that’s three guys in the 100 to 200 range and the Pirates might be willing to take a more quantity over quality approach if they’ve got a long rebuild ahead of them.

I like Nimmo too, but not for Collins, then we would need another DH.

  6. Strikeouts are selfish. They don't move runners over or make the defense work. The don't get a batter on base. They kill rallies.  Players that choose to try to hit a HRs instead of giving up themselves and their at bat for the best of the team, are selfish hitters.  This is the last thing I'll say: players that lead the league in strikeouts, no matter their HRs and OBP, are not the best hitters in baseball.

  7. Yes, I'm tough to impress when you make Taris Jr. to be the next Griffey Jr. Let's put it this way; I think Moncada is a little above average hitter, he strikes out too much. I don't think Taris Jr. is a better hitter than Moncada. Tatis Jr. is a first pitch hitter, once pitchers get ahead of him he struggles mightily.

  8. White Sox being loyal again. After further review, I change my mind on this one.  What better than to have a player stay with the same team for 9 years of his pro career.  The key is, lets hope he can continue to be Jose Abreu. If so, even better.  Remember, it went Frank Thomas, Paul Konerko, and now Jose Abreu as faces of this franchise. The next couple of years we will see who takes the baton as face of this franchise but for now its Jose Abreu. And no better man and person is fit for this job right now. Lets bring home a championship Jose!

    WAR? I'm using wRC+.

Benetendi had a wRC+ of 100 last year - exactly league average.

Yoan, for example, had a 141 wRC+ - 41% better than league average (elite).

James McCann had a highed wRC+ than Benetendi last year. My goodness. Eloy, Abreu, Timmy, and of course had much higher wRC+ last year.

Benetendi is a very average hitter, and he certainly would be no where near the best hitter on the White Sox. To even make an argument that he's a better hitter than Yoan Moncada is crazy.

Go watch his at bats. He is a better hitter than the hitters you mentions. Benintendi had a down year last year, he will be better as the years go on.

    😂😂😂😂😂😂

    WTF

Benetendi would have been the SIXTH best hitter on the White Sox last year.

There is more to judging hitting besides WAR. Watching the players at bats is worth alot. Even though Moncada had a better WAR he is not a better hitter than Benintendi. Benintendi had a down year last season. I predict Benintendi to be a borderline Hall of Famer when its all said and done.

It's not hard to see Collins as a piece of a trade package for a RFer.  I have to think combining him with a Dunning or Stiever could net you someone pretty decent (while likely not Benintendi unless we take a bad contract back too).

If its not Benintendi, then Collins is a keeper.

Collins is available in the trade market, especially as partial compensation for a pitcher or RFer (like Benintendi)

For example: the Red Sox are reportedly looking for a back-up catcher.

Christian Vazquez enjoyed a major breakout season at the plate for the Boston Red Sox in 2019. That’s fantastic because it was their biggest position of weakness in 2018. However, Boston still has a pretty serious problem. They have no backup.

No way would they deal Benintendi straight up for Collins. Prepare to deal more of our hot prospects. Benintendi would immediately become our best hitter with Eloy coming on strong.

That doesn't leave many AB's for Abreu.

Your right, it looks like McCann may take a hit in plate appearances.  Although this stinks for him, since he had such a good year last year, Im sure he is the type of guy to sacrifice for the better of the team. Its good to have him on this team, seems like a really good clubhouse guy.

Why are we so excited to see McCann at DH?  It’s more likely than not given his track record that his bat won’t be good enough to be a DH 1/3 of the games.

While McCann's k to bb rate is poor, he did bat .273, 18HR, 26 2B in only 476 plate appearances. He hit very well vs. LHP with a .295ba and .372obp.

  15. Silly to trade Collins. Collins is Grandal but only 25 years old.  I say we platoon Collins, Grandal, McCann at C, 1B, and DH. Get them all maximum plate appearances.

If anything we need outfielders now. Dickerson seems like a good pickup to play RF. Attach that along with Billy Hamilton signing to lead off and play CF would be the icing on the cake!

To get Bennitendi alone it would take Madrigal and Vaughn...too much to give up.
