  1. well the good news is... ...tonight.... ... I got tickets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!........ .... to meet Kerry this weekend so the least I could do was pin the thread for you!
  2. I am not known for adoring StJosE6. I did not see the past few games. I cannot comment on his recent play. I have seen him play badly and seen him play extraordinary since we got him in 2000. Whatever he did in a recent game or two, or even all season, he is not losing this season for us, that is over stated. It is a team game. A player may cost us a game or two. No one player ever costs us a season. I will not get on StJosE6's case now - I will cheer for him because I think part of my job as a fan is to try and lift up the spirits of a plater who is struggling. I certainly don't perform at 100% every day on my job and I prefer it when my employer says, "we'll get 'em tomorrow" rather than "you suck." What I want for me, I want for others, for Jose. Jose! Jose, Jose, Jose! Jose! Jose!
  3. rest eternal grant the young man O God and let light perpetual shine upon him. Baseball is a game. life is life. A few Sox losses, another year without a world series, means nothing compared to real life.
  4. Bulls***, Kap. When someone says that means I won't agree with you, and that has got to be tough since you are right and I am not, huh? Maybe I think you and 2k4 are completely missing it but it has to me who is wrong because you two never are and can't fathom other perspectives since you have it all together. back at you, to the champs of having to have the last word in a thread. And I could respect you disagreeing wiith me if you didn't say that I am wrong and have completely missed it because I don't agree with you. Can you respect disagreement with you?
  5. Apu, your Mencken quoite is always apt which is why we should always try and do better. Lieberman, you mention - he did pander on that issue. Since Eminem got brought into this conversation, Em dealt with the Columbine and Manson thing as you well know. In the Anger Management Tour video, Lieberman comes off really badly - a reflection of his pandering on things he knew nothing about. I voted for Gore/Lieberman over Bush/Cheney and I would do it again and again and again. On some issues, evberyoine sucks and Mencken's quote calls us to action. Taking all things together and weighing all in the balance, one does what is best instead of standing aloof and letting everything go to hell.
  6. calm down yourself. Lynne Cheney held public office before "the mid 90's before Lynne Cheney matters." The lack of knowledge of the facts helps spin the argument, yes indeed.
  7. That is exactly the point. One sided partisan bulls***. Discuss Lynne Cheney's previous public service and the things she has said and when she is speaking and when she is quiet. One sided partisan bulls***. Without looking it up, who can tell us what public positions Lynne Cheney has held? More than Tipper... and Lynne Cheney fought for censorship in that position. And as I recall, this thread began with a post about Al. To bring in Tipper to trash on her and then be upset about telling the truth about Lynne... interesting.
  8. I bet that has never happened before in human history.
  9. Actually, Tipper has said little about Eminem. Lynne Cheney - who has held appointed political office for those whose memory is short - has been a far greater threat to censorship of the arts and said a great deal about Eminem. The post I refered said nothing about Lynne Cheney, only bashed Tipper. One sided bulls***. f*** You Mrs. Cheney. f*** you Tipper Gore. Eminem said both. That half of that gets left out is a curiousty, yes, by those who seem congnitally unable to get that Republicans are involved. And far more so. Which administration is pushing censorship through the FCC right now... is it the one where the name Cheney is involved?
  10. I humbly differ. His name is IRod. Pudge wore 72 and played for the Sox. Never wish injury or ill health on others. I am not a IRod fan at all, but I wish him and all players the best of health.
  11. Dear DraftBruce supporter: We are making progress! Although I have no specific information that Bruce is considering leading a concert at Giants Stadium on September 1st as I had hoped, the article excerpted below from the concert industry trade magazine Pollstar indicates that Bruce is indeed performing for "Change" this coming October in key swing states. Since I started this effort I have received over 110,000 visitors to sign the petition and I am writing to you today to request that you forward the site URL - http://www.draftbruce.com/ - to any additional people who you think might sign it. Also, I have modified the site to refer to this new information, so maybe some of your friends who doubted the potential of Bruce actually performing and didn't sign it before, will do so now. I plan on delivering the petition to Bruce Springsteen sometime next week so we need to make the strongest case possible with as large a community of support we can create. Thank you for your time and energy. Andrew Rasiej [email protected] (To unsubscribe from the draftbruce.com list, forward this message to [email protected].) Excerpt from PollstarOnline.com article: Wednesday, Jul 28, 2004 ** Bruce Drafted After All? ** The rock star set, including Bruce Springsteen, Dave Matthews Band, Neil Young, R.E.M., and Pearl Jam, will be joined by a deep roster of country stars, punks and folkies for a barnstorming tour of so-called "swing states" in the month before the upcoming general election, the Los Angeles Times has learned. While some of the artists participating in the caravan are unabashed supporters of Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry, it seems that "anybody but Bush" is the more common thread stitching together such a diverse group of artists. 12. your insightful writing keeps getting better and better. thank you for this; I learned much.
  13. No, you are not. You are someone with a keyboard.
  14. Classless, as classless as this thread title. There are times I wish I could put some so called fans on waivers for the purpose of giving them their unconditional release.
  15. I hunbly suggest you need some intensive study on political theory and American history and reality. The government is us, acting as us, on behalf of us, because when we do not act, we have seen the horrifying results. The government is of the people, by the people, for the people. You gave us a great cliche, just like Hoover did, and in the face of human suffering, that response was found totally inadequete. Several generations removed, people who have benefited so much from that which has been built over the years by those who came before, forget or never knew what once was.
  16. I will try again to post what Tex accidently deleted/edited out before. I was reacting to this type of statement: I am not picking on the person who wrote that because that person is my friend and he knows it. Now this time I am going to say it more plainly though. What a gathering of hypocrites we have here. That statement above got a "preach it brother" response. Any type of invective directed against Kerry or Gore or Clinton or any Democrat gets that type of response - from the people who really need to have mirrors where their computer screen is. When something is posted that criticises Bush, the same people who love to dash off the juvenile insults against Democrats will respond with "it is sad to see so much hate directed against Bush" or "more Bush hating" or "more Bush bashing, it is so sad" or "I can't believe people have such hate." Hypocrites. Bush is, to me, one of the worst presidents ever. That is not hate. Tex has tried to point out in other circumstances that just because he criticises the US or Israel does not mean he hates Israel or the US. When he makes that point, others seem toi understand. But to say something critical of Bush results in the worst of the and the rolleyeyes.gif and the "oh such hate" bulls*** while the mocking of Kerry and Gore and Clinton is considered good form. It gets tiresome. I certainly don't hate Bush as a man but I despise all that his administration stands for and has done. I have articulated specific policy differences often and that is considered "hate" while ever third grade taunt against a Democrat gets high fives. Someone mentioned Eminem, that if Gore had been elected Eminem would have been exiled to Siberia or some such over the top bulls***. It was Eminem who wrote the immortal words "f*** you Mrs. Cheney, f*** you Tipper Gore." The opening video on the Anger Managment Tour was a brilliant compliation of some of the most self riighteous self aggrandizing moralizing from Republicans and Democrats alike, as well as the media. Em calls it as he sees it, and it was powerful, so powerful that I got a copy of that video. And Em has very specific reasons for the comments about Lynne Cheney and Tipper Gore. And God Bless Eminem, he has also consistently made plain his total disgust with Bush. "Square Dance" is one of the most amazing musical and lyrical commentaries - complete with rodeo music and do si dos - written in the last 20 years by one of the few musicians who is out there speaking about issues and politics. And God Bless Eminem, he is a guiding original force behind the Rapper's Summits which are out there getting kids registered to vote, and vote against Bush. And that is not "Bush hating." It is not "anyone but Bush." It is because of specific and continued and actual policy differences and deep concerns about where this country is going. Let me add that almost all of us here at SoxTalk are people of privilege. There are a lot of people here who are in fact posting on the computers that Mom and/or dad bought. Others of us - such as myself - have white coller jobs where we have internet access and the time to be here 24/7 or as close to it as possible. There are not so many factory workers here because on the line you don't get internet access. We don't have many unemployed here simply because of the economics. Most of us have never known poverty. Most of us have never been the victims of racism. There is a different America out there than the one that most of us interact with. Too many of us look at our own lives and think that is what life is. It's not. The very fact that we have time to obsess about a sports team, abvout a game, about playing, says that we are at a point of luxury and privilege and financial security that is beyond the comprehension of most of the world and many of our fellow Americans. Life is more than who we are.
  17. what you probably did was click on edit rather than quote - so you eliminated my post in typing yours rather than respond to mine quoted that was one hell of a good post too no harm meant, no foul that's cool, it happens, and maybe later I will have another go at that but I am at work now but as you remember, I was citing you as someone who had wisdom and wanted others to have your same wisdom - and you elliminated my pointing to you as a wise person - why not go back and delete that post or show that you accidently edited it -
  18. You just had to do your little parody of Dancing Queen ("Drama Queen") and post it - I'll grant you it was funny, apt, and talent evocative but damn it, now I can't get the tune of Dancing Queen out of my head and I keep humming it at work. It was a great parody and great thread and now if I cpuld just clear my mind of this incessant annoying song...
  19. Not enough. Oops, I made a terrible mistake and what appears above was not written by CW, but by me. Sorry for any embarassment I caused CW. Texsox
  20. on recount you may be right I reversed them in my mind, and I apologise gonna ban myself for such a stupid mistake
  21. I will get healthcare from my government. I will get financial security for retirement from my government. I will get education for my children from the government. Every child, every American, deserves those things. And this very wealthy nation can afford to take care of the least and all of our brothers and sisters. We as a nation have the means and the wealth to do what we want. I choose to take care of children, the elderly, and those with health insurance. That is my America. And we are taking it back from those who scoff at education for children, health care for those who need it, and security from poverty for the elderly. Read your preamble to the Constitution. It does not say provide for the wealthiest Americans and the corporations. It says provide for the common welfare. And if America is to be worth what it says it is for, my country can and will do it. It is time to stop waging class warfare against the poor and elderly and children and be America again. Whatever decisions you make as to how to live your life, it is your moral decision.
  22. why not? I do not live in fear that the Sox will move. One thing has stayed with me for all of my 52 years of life - the love of the Sox that I share with my closest friends. As one of the members of the D12 said to me, "you always have your Sox on." And hell, without my Sox tats, I never would have met D12. And no way I am posting a picture of my leg, for those who asked. The three I have now are the current logo, the 80s swingbat logo, and the 1917 S with the o and x in the S. The big debate amongst my friends is whjich one I get next. When I am convinced that they can tatoo white or yelow correctly, I have an idea which ones I want next
