  1. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ Sep 13, 2005 -> 05:53 PM) Kudos to Al Lopez' ghost who did break this story correctly after Sunday's game. No media outlet reported Marte had been thrown off the team, not even Bruce Levine. Thanks Dick. I got a lot of s*** yesterday, but I don't make stuff up. This was the first and probably will be the last time I find something out early like this. By the way, today's Tribune says that Marte was going to his own doctors for a diagnosis, and the story says that pissed off KW. I hadn't seen that posted anywhere. I think the sad part of this is that Damaso never has figured out how good he really is.
  2. For lack of a better way to say it, but Ozzie told Marte to pack your bags and leave today. my source on this is a member of the organization. Damaso - he gone.
  3. Oh, no, Griffey pulled a muscle today and will be out tomorrow too! Whatta we gonna do -- oh, wait, we didn't get him.
  4. Robin's my favorite player of that era, but he's still a little dull on the microphone. McDowell did well though. Best idea for me would be to put DJ on radio and hire anyone else in the world for TV.
  5. He's a role player, got hurt, lost his role. He could still make the club next year, if everything breaks right for him, but if not, baseball has a lot of Ross Gloads. By the way, that error you made in Kansas City has not been forgotten.
  6. We close in Cleveland. I'm assuming that we would have clinched first long before that -- but Cleveland could still be in the running for the wild card. The same weekend the Yankees play the Red Sox. (The A's and the Angels will not be playing each other.) Our series could have a huge impact on whom we play in the first round of the playoffs. Eliminate Cleveland, you get the wild card in all likelihood as your opponent. Lose to Cleveland, maybe they get the wild card and we get the winner of the West. I'm just saying that this could get real interesting.
  7. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Aug 29, 2005 -> 03:22 AM) Just throwing this out there from the Suntimes: Here is the whole article. I would guess that even if Brian is "sent" down, he'd stick around until Thursday, so the fact that he flew to Texas doesn't seem significant to me.
  8. Easiest call in years: I'm in, because my team has the best record in the league, has a 7 game lead, 9 in the all important loss column. Plus, IMHO, if you're not in with this club, you'll never be in.
  9. With a twinight doubleheader in Texas (Tuesday, I believe), we need another starter. And it seems to me that with August 31 coming up fast, wouldn't having BMac on the roster be more potentially important for the playoffs than Jon Adkins? Injury insurance for one of our starters. Now, I realize Texas pounded lumps on BMac last time, but he's gotta get over that hump some time. Any thoughts?
  10. Sure, Boone, Nevin, hey let's get Robert Fick while we're at it. Geez, folks. Your cures are worse than the disease.
  11. A long time ago many of us looked at the monthly schedules, and said that the Sox needed to build a big lead going into August, because that was a brutal month of games. That's what the Sox did. And this has been brutal, and the injuries made it worse. Just be patient, they'll come out of it, maybe without the best record in the league, but they'll be in the playoffs. Which is all we wanted at the start. Oh, and rip the Yankees.
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Aug 20, 2005 -> 04:06 AM) Prediction time: Big offensive night. I'm thinking 4 maybe 5 runs You may be right, but then again, it's a day game. Also, reading the title of this thread, don't you just love El Duquq? Sorry. 6 game losing streaks make me pissy.
  13. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Aug 16, 2005 -> 01:02 AM) That sucks. Basically tells us that KW was lying. You can criticize KW all you want for a variety of things, e.g., the Berry trade, the love for Robbie Alomar, etc., but I do not think you can call the guy a liar. He hasn't once come out and said he's trying to get Griffey, or played coy and said "Well there is a certain superstar in the National League whose father was a pretty good ball player that we're pursuing".
  14. Comcast's earlier sports show at 6:00 said to be sure to watch for Bruce talking about Griffey in the 10:00 show tonight.
  15. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 13, 2005 -> 12:43 PM) FWIW, the Score's George Offman is reporting that Griffey Jr. cleared waivers. At three o'clock the update guy said that George Offman is saying it's likely that Griffey Jr. cleared waivers. So Offman may just be talking out of his ass again, no matter how much we want to believe otherwise.
  16. QUOTE(fathom @ Aug 12, 2005 -> 11:29 AM) Timo Ozuna Timo Widger Timo Rowand Blum Crede Uribe Ozzie continues to rest his regulars too much!!!!!!!!!
  17. Couple of things. One, beating their ass four straight out of the allstar break looks pretty big right now. Two, and this is amazing to me, the Indians are 15-3 against the National League this year. In other words, they owe their contender status to the other league.
  18. With Wells pitching tonight, who thinks Everett starts in left field?
  19. QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Aug 11, 2005 -> 08:45 AM) Im actually kind of worried that Griffey would clear waivers, and the Reds would work out a trade with someone other than the Sox. I dont think the problem for the Sox is worrying wether he will make it through waivers rather it is wether the Sox will be the one that the Reds deal with. Well, wouldn't the White Sox claim him? Then the Reds would have to deal with the White Sox. No?
  20. I thought the oddest thing was the use of Politte so much earlier than he's been used for the last couple of months.
