I went to one, maybe the first one, in the early '90s. It was fabulous. Almost all of the players were extremely friendly and accessible, there was a silent auction, the food was good and the fireworks show was great. I can't imagine you won't love it.

In today's Trib or Times, I forget which, they talked about last week's game when Jenks was walking back to the dugout and Sweeney crossed in front of him. You could see that Sweeney said something to Jenks. The paper today quoted Jenks as saying that Sweeney told him words to this effect: keep throwing hard, kid, you have great stuff, and a big future. Jenks said it meant a lot to him, and he'll remember that when things don't always go his way. As I recall Hawk and DJ were guessing at that time that Sweeney was giving Jenks encouragement. Makes Sweeney a real class act.

For all of you youngsters out there, let me point out that we now have 69 wins. In 1968 our record was 67 and 95. In 1969 our record was 68 and 94. In 1970 our record was 56 and 106. So this is better. Now all we need to do is win 11 games after October 3.

Favorite White Sox-related Possession
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to greasywheels121's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I've got a lot of stuff, but I'll pick 3. I have an autographed picture taken at Old Comiskey the final weekend, with Frank, Robin and Pudge. It's a great shot. I have team autographed balls for every year going back to 1958 (except for 1963). Finally, I've got a stock certificate from when Veeck owned the Sox the first time, endorsed on the back by Hank Greenberg. That's kinda special. -
He's the Sunday interview, which I'm sure is on SportsCenter after the game, but may also be on this morning between 9:30 and 11:00 AM Chicago time.

So from what I read, he's going to be immobilized in a cast for 6 to 8 weeks. I would hope that he would entertain the thought of throwing out the first ball at the Cell for the first playoff game. You know what kind of response the fans would give him. Now, he may not want to do it because of the obvious disappointment in his not being able to play, but I hope the Sox ask him to do this. Of course, with his arm........

Wagner Rumor from Phillies Post Game
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to AWhiteSoxinNJ's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) The lastest from John Marzano is the following as heard on Comcast Sportsnet in Philly: Sox: Wagner Phils: BMac and Marte Don't shoot the messenger.... Don't get my hopes up. Phillies game is over, tho, they played at Colorado this afternoon. -
Who is the most underrated player of all time?
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to White Sox Josh's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE(White Sox Josh @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:11 AM) Harold Baines has more hits than Ted Williams in his career. I know he isn't better than him however he would've had 3,000 hits had he not played in 2 strike years. OK, but as I said, TW missed 4 years in military service, so take that into consideration. -
QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 29, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) why is it that in every rumor post on teh inside beat, it seesm that at one point or another, wagner, burnett, huff, baez will be talked about. even if its a rumor for one of them, the convo will eventually shift to all of them. we shouldnt even have titles for em becuase they all eventually end up the same....i swear this site has been goin downhill as the deadline approaches....that said after the deadline i anticipate it to be back to where it was At least we're not talking about Eric Chavez.

Who is the most underrated player of all time?

Musial is a great answer. I'd mention Ted Williams. 521 ( I think ) homers and lost 4 years in his prime as a combat pilot fighting for his country. -
I believe that there's an inordinate amount of nohitters in September. Combination of minor league callups in the lineup, guys no bearing down if they're out of the race, whatever. I remember the Sox being no hit by Mike Warren, the Sox throwing no hitters like Joe Cowley's (his last major league win, I think), and a combo with I want to say Blue Moon Odom and Frankie Barrios. I think we will see one in September.

You should try to catch highlights from last nights O's game. Samme was the potential winning run in the bottom of the 10th. Single to right, as Sammee rounds 3rd he peeks back to check the throw, can see that a good throw will get him, and he slides with his spikes about a foot off the ground into the catcher's chest. He's out, and he pats the catcher on the face, as if to say, no hard feelings.

I'm just afraid this is the calm before the calm.
-
He can probably thank Buerhle for the call-up. I'd guess he's taking Haffner's spot.

QUOTE(Steff @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 01:25 PM) Maybe they'll toss in Sheets.. Or Wes Helms.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 26, 2005 -> 06:16 AM) http://www.nj.com/mets/ledger/index.ssf?/b...7150.xml&coll=1 take it for what its worth This is a bit off topic, but the same article says that Rick White is on the Yankees wish list. Can you imagine that guy on anybody's wish list, much less the vaunted Bronx Bozos?

Sox @ Royals 7/25/05 Game Thread
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to bjm676's topic in 2005 Season in Review
QUOTE(Tadahito15 @ Jul 25, 2005 -> 03:21 PM) Anyone have the lineups yet? It would be much appreciated. Well now, just cause you asked, here it is: Pods Rowand Everett Konerko AJ Dye Crede Harris Uribe And that's a White Sox winner! -
Bruce (I'd stake my professional reputation on the Sox getting Omar Vizquel) Levine was on the radio this morning pushing the possibility that the Sox would offer Marte and Bmac for Burnett, said that it very possibly could happen, Burnett's pitching this afternoon and the Sox will have scouts there. Said Contreras would not be traded for AJ. Also said that the Sox might accept Lowell if the Fish throw a lot of money our way, especially now that Frank is back on the DL. Also said Sox were second place finishers in the effort to get Tony G and Randa. Ya gotta consider the source, but, we'll know pretty soon, I'd think.

For the record, Baldwin was signed in the last few days by Texas.

First of all I like him. Most important of all, Ozzie likes him. Whatever you think of Joey, you're not gonna be able to say...he gone.

Timmay! Kurkjian's take on Burnett
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to atrain081's topic in Pale Hose Talk
ProSportsDaily.com today is quoting the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel, which says that if Boston obtains Burnett, they might flip him for Billy Wagner. Which would suck a couple of ways, I'd say. -
I'd love to add Burnett, but not if he's joined at the hip with Lowell.

Hey, the Nationals just designated Wil Cordero for assignment. How's that for an ex-Sox name? Now, let's just keep him an ex-Sox.
