By the way, we have lost 5 of our last 6 at home, which is kinda hard to believe.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 08:49 AM) We'll learn a lot about this Sox team this weekend. We'll learn a lot about 2 Sox teams this weekend.

During the 11:00 update on Silvy and Carmine, the update guy mentioned Hermanson's back, and said Jon Adkins could be coming up. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

QUOTE(Wedge @ Jul 19, 2005 -> 09:36 AM) Agreed. Arroyo is too much. Maybe Mueller, if we're lucky. To whoever said you need a great pen to win the WS... did you see who won the WS last year? Yeah. Keith Foulke.

For our Chicagoland posters, the National Sports Collectors Convention will be held July 27 thru the 31st. On 7/28 they're having Chicago White Sox day. I have no idea what that involves, but if you're into collectibles, this convention is as big as it gets. There is a website, www.natlconv.com. FWIW.

I don't think that there's any doubt about it - we need Billy Wagner. It's easy to visualize needing one more out to advance in the playoffs, and that out is Garret Anderson, Johnny Damon, David Ortiz, etc. Plus, it gives Ozzie such flexibility using Cotts and Marte earlier in the game. KW has to go for it.

QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jul 16, 2005 -> 02:00 PM) And this is off-topic, I had a dream that Kenny traded Rogowski for some s***ty AAA fodder pitcher. Man, was I pissed... I'd be pissed too, if all I could dream about was KW and Casey Rogowski.

GAME THREAD 7-17-05 SOX vs INJUNS

We win, and we're 32 over. Say that out loud. 32 over .500. 32 f***ing games over .500. But 33 will be better. One more thought. Dmitri Young, how's life? -
The 40 man roster is a tricky thing, and I know I will probably say something wrong here, or omit something important, but I think it's worth trying to explain a little more. The Sox and all teams' organizations consist of the 25 major league players and another let's say 100 minor league players. Every year there's a draft of high school graduates and certain college level players, and these players, when signed, enter the minor league system. These drafted signees belong to the team exclusively, but for a limited time, I think 3 years. After that time, either they must be added to the 40 man roster, or they become eligible for another draft held in the winter. So teams protect their best prospects by adding them to the 40 man roster - of course this is done after some less highly regarded player is dropped from the 40 man roster. So it can be a very fluid thing, and you will often hear that the team has "outrighted" a player - like Kevin Walker recently - to a minor league team, thus removing him from the 40 man roster, clearing space to acquire a player from another team's 40 man roster, or to add one of the 1-3 year players to make that player eligible for calling up to the major league team. It's just that simple.

QUOTE(WSoxMatt @ Jul 15, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) On ESPN News today Jason Stark said FLorida will be more than willing to trade AJ Burnett to the White Sox for Contreras and Marte. Otherwise, he may go to the Mets!! I think he said Contreras, Marte, and one solid major league prospect - which is not the same as saying Contreras and Marte.

QUOTE(daa84 @ Jul 14, 2005 -> 08:53 AM) if teh fish want a major league ready pitcher, the sox have to give up mccarthy or someone on the current roster. http://www.suntimes.com/output/sox/cst-spt-sside14.html It's arguable whether McCarthy is a major league ready pitcher.

QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Jul 12, 2005 -> 08:07 AM) Does anyone remember what the Sox batting average was as a team in our last 3 playoff appearances? Where can I find that? In the 1983 ALCS we hit .211 as a team; in the 93 ALCS we hit .237, and in the 2000 ALDS we hit GOD ALMIGHTY .185. This info is from the media guide, which you gotta have for so much info.

What's interesting here is that Marte is still not on the active roster, at least according to today's Arlington Heights Daily Herald. We're at 24 until Thursday. Why wouldn't they have already activated Marte?

Tonight's lineup, per Scott Reifert: Pods Iguchi Frank Paulie Rowand Dye Widger Ozuna Uribe -
They just said he'd be on at noon.

Thanks. I just looked at Day's stats. Exactly why would we want him?
-
QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ Jul 9, 2005 -> 08:06 AM) Because the deal wasn't complete Friday night, Nationals officials were working on creative ways to get Wilson, including a three-way deal that could involve Day going to the Chicago White Sox, who would in turn ship prospects and money to Colorado. Source???

I think it was 1983 (could've been 1993) when they started selling shirts outside the park that said "Yuppie Scum Go Home." I kinda feel the same way. The bandwagoneers are the ones who'll throw a home run ball onto the field, do the wave, all that s***. Their money is green tho, so I understand the arguments in favor of them.
