    The Twins are going to make a run for what? Beer?

    Well, they're currently making a run at third place in the division.

    With Jenks, Baj, Hermanson, and Politte (Yes I am including him) The Sox have 4 guys that could be legitimate closers.  What do they do?  should they trade one or two of these guys?

    You're not a closer until you've done it in the bigs, and none of the other three have that on their resume. Politte even failed in the role. Don't get me wrong, he's a quality major league arm, Jencks looked good last night, Baj hasn't really bowled me over....

    The email was from Michigan City.  If I had to believe one person was responsible it was Southsider2k5 who wrote the message.

    Nice plug--glad they said "Soxtalk.com......yes!"

    Game thread says it was SS2K5, and it was awesome!!! Kudos to you SS!

  4. This is from Tuesday's Southtown.

    "While Schmidt would be a nice addition to the starting staff, he is not the whale Williams has on his telescope. Much like Williams had visions of Randy Johnson dancing in his head last season and last offseason, a source has said that Williams will first try to see if prying Roger Clemens from Houston is nothing more than a pipe dream.

    Williams cannot discuss players on other teams because of tampering rules, but Clemens would be one pitcher the Sox GM would put together almost any package to try to acquire. Such a move would help the Sox and would also keep Clemens from the Yankees and Red Sox, two teams that could make a run at Clemens because of their resources.

    The problem is that Clemens would have to approve a deal to Chicago, which is unlikely. Second, the Astros don't believe they're out of the NL wild card race."

    If the Sox got Clemens, the weather report in Hell would be "Record lows - freeze warning today!"

    I also would prefer that KW not waste time chasing the impossible. But I could fit Roger into the rotation, I suppose.

  5. I prefer to think that the first Sox starter after the break will be Jason Schmidt. But if it's Contreras and they keep this rotation, then you're gonna go back to having the Cubans go back to back, which plays havoc on the bullpen. They put themselves in a position to avoid this when they played around with Garland and Bmac. It's just stupid to have Contreras and Duque back to back.

  6. The Scott Reifert blog said today that the Sox players on the plane home last night were talking about how to get Pos voted in. One suggestion was Vote for Scott teeshirts, and they also are gonna set up a laptop in the dugout so the players could vote for him before stretching and batting practice. Which is way cool.

  7. QUOTE(Y2HH @ Jul 4, 2005 -> 06:49 AM)
    Besides, a 4th/5th starter will be meaningless in the playoffs, so unless we get someone BETTER than Garland/Garcia, aquiring a starter isn't the right thing to do, and right now Schmidt is NOT better than Garland or Garcia.

    The way the playoffs have been extended over the years, it's no longer true that you only need 3 quality starters. A 4th starter is no longer meaningless. That being said, I'm not sure Schmidt is the guy either, and I agree that Wagner would make us a much more formidable opponent.

  8. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jul 1, 2005 -> 05:34 AM)
    We had a guy named Bill Melton in there.  He wasn't too bad.  No, I was thinking from Ventura to Crede.

    How'd I forget Beltin' Bill? :bang

    I was thinking more of Ed Spezio, Luis Salazar, Wayne Tolleson, TIm Hulett, and of course, KW. BTW, and off topic - sorry -our opening day 3rd baseman in 1976 was Jorge Orta. Wasn't pretty.

    To get back on topic, boy wouldn't Chavez look good at third?

  9. OK, this is weird, but there's a Clorox commercial that mentions the White Sox. Hell, we don't get that much attention in Chicago, but I assume this is a national commercial. In the middle of it, there's a guy wearing the Sox white pinstripe uniform shirt, and he says something like "Off-white Sox? That would be horrible."

    I guess you go 53 and 24, you get raised in the public eye.
