The Gigantic all encompassing TRADE THREAD
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 29, 2005 -> 05:35 AM) This may be down right silly but what if the Sox were to trade Garland for Schimdt/package? Yes I know Garland has been hot as hell this season but thats partly the reason why. His trade value has probably never been this high and may never again be, plus IIRC isn't Garland a FA after this season? Maybe the Sox may think to try and resign again or that they may not even be able to do so....I am not saying I would be for this, I would rather it be El Duque or Contreras to go but does anyone really think SF or anyone else for that matter would want either of those guys?? To me, the whole idea is to get 4 dominating starters for the playoffs. You don't get that by trading one for another. But I agree, nobody wants El Duque or Contreras very badly, including the White Sox. -
Early warning - find out what your cable system does for the plus broadcasts. Mine is on the station that CLTV is usually on.

White Sox at Detroit Tigers 6/28 6:05

There was a time when that would have been an apt question. Not so anymore, but I will be having strong drink the night we win the world series. Maybe even the pennant! -

I would like to congratulate Frank Thomas, as his first inning home run tonight will be the 1320th run in his career, setting the all time White Sox record. -
I wonder if he'll actually play the field or just DH.

Belle - Think he'll make it in..???
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to Steff's topic in The Diamond Club
I say Albert won't get in. He made a lot of enemies, and I think people will look at him as a terrific talent who didn't get the most out of his abilities. I think he is the 1990's Dave Kingman. Frank is a mortal lock. -
I haven't looked at it yet, but today's Tribune talked about Sox PR guy Scott Reifert's blog. It can be found at http://whitesoxpride.mlblogs.com/

I suggest that we rip them. -
Stone's consistent: he predicted the Cubs would win two out of three this weekend too.

QUOTE(TheDybber @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 09:03 AM) Are you sure it was Luzinski and Kittle? I seem to remember something where I saw 4 roofshots in a day. Mark McGwire hit one in a pre-game exhibition with Team USA, then Luzinski and I thought Fisk for the Sox and then Darrell Jones (?) with Detroit hit one over the RF roof. Does anyone have a list of all the roofshots? The 1991 media guide lists 44. On July 2, 1984 Kittle hit one, then the next day Luzinski and Ruppert Jones of Detroit did it. Then on August 1, 1984 Kittle and Fisk hit ones against Boston's Bob Ojeda. The last Sox player to do it was Ron Kittle on a horrible cold night, 4-17-90. The most powerful display I saw was George Bell, when he was with Toronto, when on 8-24-85 he took Seaver to the roof, the next day he went roofing with Floyd Bannister, and on 8-23-85, he hit one into the center field bleachers off the immortal Dave Wehrmeister. Only 7 balls went into the CF bleachers. -

QUOTE(JimH @ Jun 24, 2005 -> 07:58 AM) - Watching Jim Kaat pitch in 1975, man did he work fast. - I shared a lot of your memories, but I get kidded a lot about Jim Kaat. Back in my prime I drank 11 beers in a Jim Kaat game. This after a pregame couple of beers at McCuddy's. Those were the days. -
f***ers.

I was at the July 1, 1990 game when the Sox beat the Yanks even tho they got no hits. The Andy Hawkins game. -
Everett is thanking God that he hit the ball far enough to get these two guys home. Actually they should be pointing to heaven, thanking God they didn't have to run. Hell, maybe everybody in the stands should have been pointing upward!

I think Stone's terrific too. However, he predicted the Cubs would win the Wrigley Cub Sox series, so that was a mistake, and he has predicted all year long that Minnesota would overtake the Sox in the standings. That's not looking too good, either.

I've known Nancy and her family since 1984. You couldn't find a nicer person, and she always has a smile and a hello for the fans who stop by her booth. I know she was very touched by yesterday's festivities, especially the Diamondvision retrospective they showed before the game. For you guys who weren't able to be there yesterday, after she threw a first pitch to Marte, she went over to Ozzie in the dugout. I asked her what the exchange was between her and Oz, and she said that Ozzie said "You trew de ball good, I'm gonna sign you up!" Just a great day, and very deserved.

Boers&Bernstien Are Idiots
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to Southside hitmen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
One of their points was that the Sox have never won a playoff series. Now, you can argue that this is irrelevant, and you'd have a good point. One other point they had was the landscape is going to change when teams make trades prior to the end of July. That's probably true too. I think B and B are terrifically funny, and when they say something I disagree with, I don't take it personally. -

QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 03:27 PM) I don't know if you've been paying attention, but Everett is probably a better fielder than Pods and Dye. Pods has the speed on him, no doubt, but Everett has been very solid this year. Pods is the worst at picking up the ball off the bat. Dye must play real deep - which is usually a sign of a not so great outfielder - because he is always charging balls that drop in. Last night for one, and the other night on a ball Iguchi looked bad on that was up there a long time. I'm pretty unimpressed by Dye's fielding. Oh, and he'll miss the cutoff man just about every time. Like his bat tho. -
QUOTE(Wedge @ Jun 21, 2005 -> 04:53 PM) let's not forget Dye and Crede Oh, let's.

QUOTE(winodj @ Jun 20, 2005 -> 05:07 PM) Will they renew her contract this year? It seems like Brooks Boyer actually likes her. Gallas was an asshole to her, made life miserable. Her contract discussions have always been on a December, January sort of timetable. -
I'd let BMac pitch. The Cub games mean a little (ok, a lot) extra to us fans, but in the scheme of winning the division, the Cubs are at the bottom of my list. We gotta find out how soon BMac is gonna put it together, and I'd try to find out every fifth day.

Time to make a deal for a 5th starter?
Al Lopez Ghost (old) replied to BigSqwert's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If you could get Oswalt, you'd have to do it. Nothing against BMac, and he may turn into a terrific pitcher. But Oswalt, that's a step up.
