I"d like to see a Madrigal/Anderson table setter. I wouldn't waste Robert's offensive abilities by batting him first. Stick him in the middle of the lineup opens the door to those batting ahead and after him to have good seasons as well. As time goes on my attention turns to whether Renteria / Cooper is championship level field management in 2020. As St. Theo did, I have my doubts about Renteria now that I have observed his body of work up close. Both Renteria and Cooper's non-embrace of sabermetrics is concerning. Cooper basically peaked in 2005.

Steve Stone Hinting At Another Move: Not Puig / Castellanos
GradMc replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
As far as I concerned, RF is still an open regular position issue. I would love Puig in that outfield. Although it's in the making, the Sox don't have an identity as yet. Puig brings some established street cred - obviously not the level Harper would have. Trading for Mookie is out of the question. I don't want them giving up young assets for someone who will definitely be exploring free agency. Perhaps during the next offseason, elite difference makers will find the Sox intriguing. -
Sox Officially Sign Edwin Encarnacion (1YR/$12M), Kodi Medeiros DFA

Excuse me this ownership has a long way to go before crow starts showing up on anyone's menu. For those of us that have endured the Reinsdorf Group and their 5 playoff appearences in 38 years and none in the last 11, ever eating crow is a non-event. $120 million is chump change. Keep it moving. And they should be in the hunt for Mookie and a host of others next off-season. Stop making excuses for them. -
I want a full time RF and a more offensive-minded DH. Gio and Keuchel don't inspire me to inquire about season-ticket plans. Reinsdorf as usual has come up short again. I'm completely under-whelmed with this off season so far.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option
GradMc replied to Heads22's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I believe the Sox are going to shock me on the level of a Mookie Betts type deal. Nothing they've done yet is going to get those phones ringing in the ticket office. Reinsdorf is going to have to do more than provide the base with the allure of a green oasis where there's only sand. -

The key to this pitching staff is still Rey Rey Lopez. -

What would it take to get Nolan Arenado?
GradMc replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in Pale Hose Talk
All in if he was a free agent, yes. The Sox can't afford to give up the little talent they do have. They have to augment with FAs. Looks like with zillionaire Cohen hovering, the Mets will become major players on the level of the Yankees and Dodgers. Arenado might end up in Queens. The White Sox should be so fortunate to have a zillionaire buy them. -
A 5th starter ? LOL This is our Wheeler/Cole/Strasburg replacement.
-
Reinsdorf is a joke. Catching lightening in a bottle is the way he's run this organization since he bought it for peanuts then realized he couldn't compete with these far more affluent ownerships. The White Sox are cursed by historically bad ownerships. I hold out hope I'll live long enough to see this paradigm finally change.

Reinsdorf is committed to keeping the base thirsty. No serious contender has Hahn as a GM.
-
A friend of mine sent me this without providing proper context. I feel better now.

Every Sox fan should be outraged over this promo. Anderson was the friggin batting champion. What about Moncada, Abreu, Gio, Eloy J ??? Cole hasn't thrown one damn pitch in an Yankees uniform yet but they made sure to feature him. Have the White Sox fallen that far out of national prominence ? What an indictment of ownership.
-
If we had an ownership willing to truly compete, Hahn wouldn't be the GM anyway.
-
Reinsdorf cries poor. The group that owns the Sox can compete with anyone. But they are not sportsmen.
-
The entire Reinsdorf experience has been a perpetual goal-post moving series of 3 to 5 year "rebuilds".
-
If either of them are in rotation, forget about contending in 2020.

What is a realistic payroll ceiling for the sox?
GradMc replied to Dominikk85's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Can we please, please stop with this pauper routine? There are 30 MLB ownership groups. These organizations know exactly what it would take financially to compete. The Reinsdorf group could up the anty to 200 million TODAY if they so desired. I am so sick and tired of these apologists allowing Reinsdorf to get off the hook with this crying poor routine. If the kitchen is too hot, they can sell the team and move on. However, they're not going to sell because the White Sox ARE profitable. The ownership group is not comprised of affluent sportsmen. They are savvy businessmen who are in it for the personal financial enrichment.. period. Stop being played. Reinsdorf got exposed with that crack about keep the base (what's left of it) thirsty. That"s sounds so like him. And don't think for one second elite free agents are not swayed by the level of ownership commitment. Reinsdorf will live in infamy as the guy that whined about paying Michael Jordan fair market value. -
Please don't give these guys up. Spend some damn money for once.

Whatever you thought of these old school announcers at least they had enough of a personality to react to. Elson, Hamilton, Brickhouse, Pettit, Caray, Piersall, Hawk, Funk, Gowdy, Summerall, Keith Jackson, Cosell, Scully, Albert and Enberg were among the voices behind some of the most memorable moments of my life. That said I will never forgive Joe Buck and Tim McCarver for their atrocious calling of the 2005 World Series. They hated the White Sox and it clearly showed. It was all love and kisses when the Cubs made it.
-
Reinsdorf continuing his tradition of keeping the fanbase noses pressed up against the window pane of true championship contention.
-
What a surprise !

Winner

Unlike last year, Reinsdorf doesn't a clear path to the prized FAs. That may not ever happen again. He is not getting in a bidding war with the Yankees. He could but he won't. The Reinsdorf group can compete with any team if they so desired. They just want fans to believe they are unable.
-
Why do folks bother with him after the stunt they pulled last off-season ? He's not doing anything more than ownership allows him to do - which is not much. Madrigal starting the season in the minors is not surprising. Reinsdorf has that time-crap down to a science.
