  1. I don't have much use for the Cubs but if I was allowed to pick one to join the Sox it would be Contreras
  2. I'm shocked he didn't go with the high fastball
  3. Nova threw the surprise start of the season. Kudos to all the pitchers. They set up Big Daddy's homer.
  4. Wilson Contreras was brought up and made an immediate impact with his glove and bat and has been doing so ever since. A catcher of that quality should be high priority for the White Sox. We don't need another DH. We need more guys on this roster that can get it done from both an offensive and defensive perspective.
  5. Hahn is good at going after the talent of other organizations. That doesn't take much of a skillset. GM's reputations are built on who they draft not who they trade for. From that perspective, I'm not very impressed with Hahn. The White Sox stars of the near future are going to be comprised of ex Red Sox and Cubs farmhands. When Hahn starts DRAFTING the likes of Moncanda, Cease, Giolito, Kopech and Jimenez, I'll change my mind. But I'm not holding my breath. They get credit for signing Robert but he wasn't an unknown. They won a bidding war. Ironically he hit on Tatis Jr but promptly traded him away and spent tens of millions of dollars too boot for broken-down Shields. This guy will never get another opportunity to be a GM.
  6. Lord knows I'm pulling for Rey-Rey but Reinsdorf needs to get off his ass and help this team out or sell them. So he didn't want to spend 600 mil on two players. Fine, I've made peace with that. But damn it he can bring us two decent starting pitchers. The White Sox are the only major market team in their division. Inexcusable we aren't consistently in the hunt.
  7. Well that's the issue with our ownership. Cease and Robert could have been called up way before now.
  8. All I know is when this guy finally figures it out, I hope he's still with the Sox. He's not Juan Marichial in his prime. It he was, you sure wouldn't have gotten him and Gio for friggin Adam Eaton. They are Works In Progress. The Nats were built to win today.
  9. Brilliant performance by Gio. Cooper has squat to do with this. I truly believe Lopez would respond to a different perspective as Gio clearly has. Lopez's problem is in his head, not his arm.
  10. LOL. I sure hope your tongue is firmly planted in your cheek. Kinder ? Gentler ? You can't be serious. But I know Reinsdorf has his staunch supporters.
  11. Renteria should be replaced but won't be. Reinsdorf tends to double down whenever the fanbases on either sides of town screams out for change. Robin Ventura was an outstanding baseball player. His reputation as one of the best third basemen in Sox history was firmly cemented. To this day, I don't believe he actively petitioned for that manager's job. Who knows what goes on behind the scenes? I love Robin and it pains me what they did to him. I doubt we will ever see Robin again at a Sox function and that's a loss for all of us. Harry Caray and Bill Veeck loathed Reinsdorf and with good reason.
  12. Tank manager has a tank coaching staff. That's why no elite manager would ever sign on here. He would have zero control over his staff - to say nothing of the fact Reinsdorf doesn't hire outsiders or would pay them anyway. You almost have to wonder if these owners like Reinsdorf actually look for this type of manager. Renteria's decision-making is mind-blogging when in fact it may be a desired skillset. Think of some of the clowns we've had in the manager's office during this regime...laughable. Organizations win championships ? Ya don't say ?
  13. They are no worse than other team contending for that second wild card. If they weren't, how do you explain they're only 2 back ?
  14. I have to ask Does Reinsdorf want this team to be competitive ? They actually have a shot to make the playoff this year. What a boost going into 2020 that would be.
  15. Lopez may be the biggest tease to have ever pitched for this organization. This trade was basically Eaton for Gio. Maybe put him in the pen as a late-inning pitcher. The guy is capable of spectacular outings. I really want him to win. Perhaps these young guys, would respond to a different perspective. But Cooper is more than a pitching coach to Reinsdorf. He's the eyes and ears in the clubhouse. His usefulness as a pitching coach was over many, many moons ago.
  16. I felt sorry for the way St. Theo treated him Not anymore. He is a tank manager.
  17. Absolutely agree. You got a closer. That's one less thing to worry about. It's about the owner filling some holes with some vetted difference makers using some of the cash they claim is available. I know in Reinsdorf's world he makes it to the series with minuscule payroll. It happened in 2005. Not happening again - let's go !! And stop babying Cease. Bring him up.
  18. Which would make Lopez and Rodon (when he returns) the best #4 and #5 starters in the AL which means they could win a ton of games.
  19. Agreed. But until the Sox pitchers can win these pivotal 2-out situations in a more consistent fashion, we won't have sustained winning streaks. These pitchers can't epect to get bailed out consistently by the Kenny-Hahn 3-run homer paradigm of an offensive scheme.
  20. Most of the farmhands they bring up with a few noted exceptions seem to do nothing more than perpetuate the "mired in medocrity" mantra coined by its own GM. The 5-25 record of Covey was a shocking stat.
  21. I really had high hopes for this series after the showing in Houston. If this team is contending in 2020, the evidence is fleeting at best. It is self-evident the Reinsdorf cabal is not going to loft them into contention with outside vetted free agent difference makers. This will have to be an inside-org effort. He won in 2005 with basically avg ballplayers having career years and without any serious financial outlays. This next time it might be with better caliber players but still under budget and no threat to his bottom line. The Bulls and Sox long for affluent sportsmen in the owner's suites.
