Sorry to hear that. I was hoping Reinsdorf would try to right a wrong by resigning him. But again they would have to admit it was a mistake in the first place to let him go which they're not doing.
-
If Scott Boras is the reason, then CWS ownership/senior management can"t be considered major players. A seat at the table ? More like second-rate seat warmers.
-
They"ll never say it but I will. A lot of these Tier 1 Free Agents just don't want to be bothered with Jerry Reinsdorf. Torri Hunter played Reinsdorf like a Stradivarius. Machado and Harper were even worse because of the holy hell they sent the base through in using Reinsdorf for leverage to secure better deals elsewhere. Max just outright admitted it.

The Sox are the only major market team in their division. Yet they are operated like a class A affiliate. CWS should be perinneal contenders and major players in the elite FA Market. Sadly, they're not. But to a group of affulent sportsmen who can spend and make money (yes, folks like that really do exist), CWS could be a very attractive team to own.

Where could Kimbrel be traded, and for what?

Cubs got the best of Hahn on that one. A major win in an otherwise lousy year on Clark & Addison. -
We'll see Reinsdorf push toady Hahn out to the press to corporate-speak his way through why CWS didn't make any major free-agent acquisitions. A prolonged work-stoppage is music to Reinsdorf's ears. And folks still wonder why major FA's in both MLB and NBA have stayed clear of him. The NBA just basically ignores him - for the better. Imagine Reinsdorf trying to enforce a dress code in the NBA...LMAO. They'd laugh his lost in the 1950's ass off the planet.

I'm still haunted by that game and what could have been. RIP.

The CWS chairman was the ringleader then and he will be now.
-
CWS has always had small market mentality ownerships.

Your first sentence says it all.

Not going all-in on Harper was yet another tragic mistake by this ownership group.
-
A 40 year body of work from the owner's suite does it for me.

I'm surprised Kenny tolerated Reinsdorf for as long as he did. The TLR matter I guess was the last of the final straws. I sure hope I get an opportunity to see my favorite sports team operated by a world class set of affluent sportsmen. Lord knows that era in CWS history has yet to come.

If the Sox are in win now mode with all those guys in their mid 20's that's telling me Reinsdorf has no intention of ponying up the kind of money to not keep the core in tact but to augment with vetted difference makers. They've never been in any kind of win-centric mode. CWS weren"t remotely the favorites to win in 2005. Capturing lightening in a bottle started with the Ellis Burke trade and now it's the corporate mantra.

What you want them to do/what you think they will do
GradMc replied to Kyyle23's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Revisit this the glorious day when this organization is sold to those who are willing to spend to compete. I hate trading assets. At some point, you gotta accentuate by signing vetted difference makers. I want the world. They"ll do nothing. If anything, I expect Reinsdorf will assume his position on the front lines as he will be bullish on a work stoppage in 2022. -
RON IN 2019: Thinking of cheering for the Cubs next year

I loathed Reinsdorf passionately but my love for CWS transcends ownership. I was a Sox fan before Reinsdorf and will be one after. -
Nitengale: La Russa "definitely" returning to the Sox
GradMc replied to Buehrle>Wood's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Reinsdorf's checkbook should be open wide but not to Hahn. And no owner in his mind right mind would make Hahn head of baseball operations. Before summoning security they would say FTJR for Shields. Like it or not that is his legacy. -

Kopech and Crochet are not relievers. They are starters. I'm not sure Kopech would have fared any better. He needs to add some more pitches. They were teeing off on his fast balls. But that's mentality of senior management...homers and strikeouts...all or nothing all. And they got nothing. -

Reinsdorf's pockets aren't deep enough for St. Theo. CWS will be under new, far more affluent ownership before they are able to attract those kinds of executives. I see the Cubs made a play for Tampa Bay"s player personnel VP and came up short. But who wants that reclamation project? The Cubs biggest problem is ironically their cash cow - Wrigley Field. CWS can set the world on fire with the right ownership. There would be some deep pocket suitors. But Reinsdorf's inflated ego would never give his legion of detractors the satisfaction of watching him turn over the keys to the kingdom. Oh the editorials and post-mortems.. The chants of "Bye Felicia" and "Good Riddance" would be heard globally. His ego destroyed the Bulls. And it clearly got in the way this year as it has over the past 40 years. -
Not only something he's not but clearly did not want to be. I'm so tired of Reinsdorf senior managers who think they know more than anyone else who in reality don't know jack.

ALDS Game 4 - HOU @ CWS - 1:07 pm CDT

The problem is they all need to go and no one in their right mind would want to inherit TLR and be bothered with an ownership group who historically leaves their better teams 2 or 3 players short. The Reinsdorf Group doesn't give a damn about championships unless they are coincidental with achieving their bottom line goal$. Reliance on Hero Ball 3 run homers and Strikeout Kings is not the recipe for success in the post-season. I thought the fanbase was outstanding. They deserved better. -
