He can when he's motivated as he proved in the World Baseball classic playing for Cuba. He also put it together enough with the Sox to convince them to sign him to the contract he never lived up to. I blame Moncada for not being motivated once given the contract. Too many of his AB's looked like he didn't really care as he just watched strike 3 go by again and again. I also blame the Sox manger(s) who couldn't figure out how to light a fire under his ass. Players play for Managers they respect and that never happened with TLR or Pedro. Ricky got him to play and he always flashed the glove, until he became distracted or disinterested. Good riddance, but I'm sure he'll turn into an All-Star if he lands on the right team with a good Manager.

If they had him figured out why did Getz trade a high leverage closer for Vargas? That goes without mentioning the other two players he gave up. Certainly Kopech had more potential as a closer than Vargas does of showing anything resembling what we gave up to get him. Vargas doesn't even have a position.....is he a 3B, OF, SS, or just a utility player? I'd also like you to show me Kopechs last 10 appearances with the Sox, did he hold runners on base like he did in LA giving up zero SB's.

So sad to see the BlackHawks follow JR's new sports network. What a flop, all the exposure and advertising dollars lost because JR thought it would be a good idea to put it on free TV thinking he would still get Comcast, YouTube and others to pay up when people can buy a $20 antenna. Agree, The Sox messed up Vaughn by bringing him up early when Jose was still our 1B, then moved him to multiple positions he had never played since little league. The Sox braintrust decided it was a good idea to put the slowest person on the team in RF so he can humiliate himself and lose any confidence he may have had with his bat. He should have been in the minors as long as Jose was still on the team.

Again, there's BIG difference between picking #1 multiple years in a row instead of picking 10th. Picking #1 and selecting the best player in the country is usually not a risk. Hell we picked Vaughn at #3 and how has that worked, decent player but no All Star that's for sure.

I knew with a name like "Falstaff" you have experienced the same pain I have over the years. Agree completely about Chuck and the 1972 team. What a year, until it ended, I didn't realize they lost 1st place on Aug. 29th my birthday but I followed that team and kept a scrap book of articles and pictures from that season. I can only hope your last statement comes to fruition.

All good and looks promising and thanks for putting that together. One thing to remember is JR holds the purse strings and is known to have made cuts in scouting and the analytic department. I'm not sure if we even have one based on our recent Managers who embraced the "gut feeling" instead of analytics. Time will tell if the new hire has any say in how JR spends his war chest, I seriously doubt it but it's a nice start instead of hiring Sizemore which I expected. I know people don't like the "eye test" but after going to my first game in two years I'm not liking what I see from Vargas. His body language just says it all. His posture at the plate, on the bases, and on the field just screams "lazy" to me. He's not a ballplayer, he's just a talented player without a clue how to play the game. Kinda like Moncada and Robert two other Sox busts.

What I don't understand about all the hate on the announcer that repeats itself over and over is, YOU HAVE A CHOICE! If the announcers bother you that much turn the sound off and listen to the Sox play by play on the radio or listen to the other teams announcer via MLB app or the internet.

Lip Man is just disgruntled because he thinks in his mind that he should have gotten the job because he claims to announce games. For who, or what it doesn't matter he's gonna hate because the baseball on the south side has been so bad that he has to pick apart an announcer in his first year with a new team.
