  2. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 20, 2005 -> 03:53 PM) Yeah, enough that they had to retract their bulls*** story. :rolly No, only enough gov't pressure.
  3. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ May 20, 2005 -> 02:43 PM) No clear-thinking person takes the NY Times seriously anymore. Well even better then, no clear-thinking person would have ever heard about this story. Phew
  4. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ May 20, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) You are not mistaken at all. Like you, I do support the reporting of torture by our military. Torture should not be a viable interrogation technique. Back in the days when our media wasn't so blatantly partisan and actually gave a damn about the welfare of our troops, stuff like this happened all of the time. Do you not think that our military did similar things in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam? Hell, it was even worse back then: Where was the NY Times when Roosevelt unlawfully sent Japanese Americans to detention camps? And FDR is widely-regarded as one of our nation's greatest presidents. The bottom line is that ANY military is going mistreat at least a few prisoners in a time of war. I'm not trying to excuse or justify it, but it happens. And I'l bet that our military is much more humane than, say, China's or Russia's. The American public holds our military to incredibly high (and some might argue unreasonably high) standards of conduct in times of war. And I believe that our media outlets have the right to report blatant human rights abuses. But the partisan bias of today's media goes far beyond that. Does the (alleged) flushing of pages of the Koran down a toilet qualify as a human rights abuse? Did the NY Times need to run 53 (!) front-page articles on Abu Ghraib? These aren't cases of fair and biased journalism... they're cases of blatant political mud-slinging that undermine our military's efforts and put our troops in even further danger. Just as our troops should be held accountable for their actions, so should our media. Stop worrying, other than the Times no one is reporting this.
  5. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 20, 2005 -> 08:42 AM) The media seems to have no problem minding its business when it comes to showing the good our solidiers are doing in Iraq, Afganistan, and around the world in general. All of our boys and our country is being painted as blood thirsty savages. This is bigger than one parties political agenda, or at least it should be. When was the last time you saw a picture of American's building new roads in Iraq? Or a little girl going to school for the first time in Afganistan? But I'll bet you have seen a picture of Lyndie England in the last month. Yes the media has a role in opening up scandals, as they are the final check and balance of government. But their agenda needs to be bigger than taking down a President. They are daily putting our lives in danger, not just our soldiers. If their were images of Americans saving lives around the world, that might go towards actually showing that the vast majority of American's want the world to be a better place. Instead the media only concentrates on the worst of the worst. Feeling the hate we do from the rest of the world, makes me want to close up shop and say screw the rest of the world. Pull out all of our companies, resources, food, aid companies etc, and let them see how they get along without the great satan. They all hate us, but where is the first place they turn to when they need help? Who is in there saving the lives of Iranians after their huge earthquake? It wasn't the Russians who are selling them the bomb making equiptment they hope to someday use against us I will tell you that much. It is us. The citizens of this country give self-lessly to the rest of the world, more than the rest of the world gives combined, yet we are the evil ones. What does the Muslim world provide for our poor and starving people? Did they offer to send rescue crews and relief aid after all of the hurricanes hit Florida? Nope. I am sick of it. I am sick of being protraying as treating the rest of the world as a doormatt by our own citizens, and having my life put in danger because of it. All because they want to sell a few more newspapers. Hell the reporting of the abuse of American;s, our families mind you, doesn't even get reported as much as the abuse of other people? This same kind of stuff happens in our own prision systems everyday, but are there reports about that? Nope. I am f***ing sick of it all. I wouldn't worry so much, cbsnews.com foxnews.com and cnn.com aren't saying anything about this. Yet... Frickin Liberal Media

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 20, 2005 -> 01:31 AM) Link works for me. Anyway you could just use this link then click ''apparently not''. This is what it has to say. http://www.egotastic.com/entertainment/mov...ttorrent-000201 There's a bunch of them now. Pretty sure some of them are real. I have no idea of the quality and I don't really care because I'm definitely going to go see it in theatres soon.

QUOTE(qwerty @ May 19, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) http://www.cinematical.com/2005/05/17/epis...torrent-update/ Link doesn't seem to work. http://www.torrentspy.com/latest.asp?mode=yesterday Looks like there are a ton of torrents for it.

  9. QUOTE(qwerty @ May 19, 2005 -> 11:43 PM) Tarantino wants to get into television more. Wants to direct a show of his own. Don't really know how well that would pan out. Only if it's on HBO please Quentin.
  10. I have no idea where drudgereport.com gets this stuff but for what it's worth drudgereport.com
  11. Frank: "Who the hell is this crazy canuck that keeps paparazziing my ass!"
  12. QUOTE(ChiSoxyGirl @ May 19, 2005 -> 09:53 PM) Not so good. Awful dialogue and perhaps the most predictable story line ever. Cold Case was also crappy and predictable. I can't tell if tv was always like this--or, since I rarely watch it, that I've forgotten its crappiness. Wasn't too special. But I'm not sure what I was expecting. The only time Quentin's goofiness shined through was with Nick dream, but I didn't find it all that funny. Nonetheless I enjoyed it and it wasn't a waste of my time.
  13. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ May 19, 2005 -> 04:42 PM) I'll make another comparison. Take you, for whom anti-American crap is obviously rampant. Then BigHurt makes a sensational accusation towards you of anti-Americanism. This incites many posters on here to berate you endlessly. The accuracy comes into question but the presence of anti-Americanism is always present anyways. Therefore you could say that you are really to blame. It's the same with Guantanamo, records of Abuses are apparent. LOL! Great post.
  14. http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/20...ence050519.html No election and all those polls don't mean much now. Most Recent Poll Numbers Libs 34.7 Cons 28.3 http://www.metronews.ca/reuters_international.asp?id=74094
  15. Not a huge CSI fan but I'm going to check it out tonight.
  16. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ May 19, 2005 -> 12:16 PM) If they didn't have an agenda then why print something as inflammatory as this without checking their facts first. They thought it was true. Contrary to what the White House wants you to think Newsweek probably didn't publish an article to take a shot at Bush or whomever. I'm sure newsweek didn't believe their source would fold under white house and pentagon pressure. Blaming Newsweek for the deaths of these people is really irresponsible on the White Houses behalf. I'm going to make a comparison. Take Russia where corruption is obviously rampant. Then a news outlet publishes an article where a paragraph makes a sensational claim of corruption which incites the population. The accuracy comes into question but the presence of corruption is was always present anyways. Therefore you'd say that the Kremlin is really in the end to blame. It's the same with Guantanamo, records of Abuses are apparent.
  17. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ May 19, 2005 -> 10:57 AM) Newsweek obviously had an agenda when they published the story. Does anyone actually have a link to the article? I hear the part about the Koran was only a couple of lines. Oh yah and lol at newsweek has an agenda
  18. If you want to catch him for one last time watch Tarantino's CSI tommorow (thursday), he's in it.

  20. Another poll taken May 12th to 15th Nationwide Libs 33 Cons 30 NDP 19 Green 6 ------ Liberals see big boost in Quebec and Ontario Ontario Libs 43 Cons 30 NDP 21 Green 6 Quebec Bloc 48 Libs 25 Cons 14 NDP 9 Green 4 In Ontario and Quebec the Liberals have gained 9 points. Conservatives have lost 5 points in Ontario and actually gained 6 in Quebec. The Separatist Bloc Quebecois has lost 8 points. http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...130/?hub=Canada Note this poll is taken before yesterday's big ordeal.
  21. Another poll Libs 32 Conservative 31 http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/2005/04...1017347-cp.html
  22. Can't find a link yet to the poll, but along with the massive hit the Conservatives are feeling with losing one of their top ministers the most up to date polls shows them trailing 33 to 31 percent nationally. And in Ontario, the voter rich battleground they now trail by 8 or 9 points (iirc). The last poll I showed was taken from May 10th to 12th This one was from the 12th to 16th and had a larger sample size This poll also took place before this morning's huge announcement, which will probably have a large impact on future polls. Also note that with the defection of Stronach to the Liberals an election may not happen just yet and the polls may not be really important. By Thursday night we'll probably know what's going to happen.
  23. Great win for the guys tonight. Jon Garland proving he's the stud I always thought he could be.
  24. QUOTE(kapkomet @ May 17, 2005 -> 03:08 PM) If you're going to open that can of worms, Mr. Hannity and Mr. Limbaugh, er, I mean, BigHurt, then what about Rwanda and Somolia and everywhere else on the planet genocide occurs? Why Iraq? (gee, I wonder - and NO, it's not oil). Yasny made a great point post about this in a past thread. Simply to say that the US Forces invaded Iraq because Saddam was an mf'er is ignorant.
