  1. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 17, 2005 -> 03:07 AM) Selfish? Whatever. It's our oil and we can damn well do with it what we want to. While I don't know to what extent if any this will negatively impact animals in this region it sure worries me. A wild animal refuge is supposed to be a location of shelter and safety, and I'd think it's logical to say drilling is a threat to that. Call me a whacko but I personally think it's selfish to try to cut oil prices at risk of wildlife and the environment.
  2. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 11:27 PM) Did he MENTION the Navigator? No, he said Hummer, the posterchild for consumption by those with too much money. But since you sort of asked, sales for all SUV's are down 21% from last month. But I am sure you can access google from that frozen waste of a country up north, so why don't you look it up for yourself? :finger http://cbs.marketwatch.com/news/story.asp?...gle&dist=google Snap! I'm aware of the decline in sales just saying that the Hummer probably isn't much worse than any of the largest SUVs.
  3. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 10:32 PM) I think the 30,000 Hummers per year that are sold don't do as much damage to the environment as you might think. Especially considering that alot of them are bought by people with way too much money on their hands, and don't end up driving them that much anyway. Besides, the Prius is now beating the Hummer in sales, so some people are giving up their Hummers. http://slate.msn.com/id/2096191/ Here is a quote from the story: "sales rose to about 20,000 in 2002 and to 24,000 in 2003. Since the new 2004 model was introduced in the fall, the Prius has been stomping the Hummer. In November 2003, the Prius outsold the H2 by a 2-to-1 margin, according to Autodata." And sales comparing the Lincoln Navigator to the Prius? Or all Hybrids combined?
  4. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:48 PM) IIRC, the money is being spent by private businesses, no? And those businesses will provide jobs Americans in the middle of a slowly-recovering economy, no? Guess we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. This reeks of anti-Bush partisanship, IMO. While on this issue I don't care who's in power its probably a result of the Republicans having more power.
  5. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:18 PM) An oil spill in a wildlife refuge would be much less environmentally-damaging than one in the Gulf of Mexico, no? So, why are the Dems not speaking out against that? Oh, right, offshore drilling didn't occur under Bush's watch. :rolly Okay, but that doesn't make this any less selfish.
  6. QUOTE(TheBigHurt35 @ Mar 16, 2005 -> 05:09 PM) So, if drilling in the middle of nowhere in Alaska is so bad, why is nobody protesting our drilling in the Gulf? WILDLIFE REFUGE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE This is a selfish act.
  7. Like the BBC headline "Bush backs US hawk for World Bank" http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/4354839.stm :headshake
  8. Big day in Canadian courts too http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/20...ance050316.html This was apparently the worst terrorist attack the world has seen, before 9/11.
  9. http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/national/200...ling050316.html f*** that!
  10. Isn't this the same dunce who wanted to go to Iraq before Afghanistan?
  11. "There's s*** everywhere!"
  12. QUOTE(Texsox @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 05:32 PM) Put them in the same category as the French. The people of Italy maybe, but not their government. I really don't think this withdrawal is coming any earlier than anyone expected, or at least I haven't seen anyone saying that.
  13. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/4352259.stm No surprises here.

  15. QUOTE(YASNY @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 12:08 PM) Frank has not played. There was a box score that had him listed as having played in CF in, I think, the very first game. He wasn't even in camp and he damn sure wasn't in CF. Frank will not be ready for opening day. Maybe, just maybe, late April or early May. Thanks
  16. Part of a conversation I just heard in my school's hallway from a guy telling a girl he's going to see The Game in concert tonight. Guy: I'm going to see the game tonight! Girl: What game? He should have picked a better name for himself.
  17. I'm kind of out of the loop these days. What condition is big Frank in and will he be ready for opening day? And if not why do I seem to remember that he's already played some this spring?
  18. QUOTE(Kid Gleason @ Mar 15, 2005 -> 09:30 AM) I'm surprised nobody saw Road To Perdition here, especially with a thread going on right now about favorite local films. But that Daniel Craig guy would be downright nasty as Bond. I am also a bit surprised at the lack of love for Dalton. IMO he was the second best Bond so far, second to Connery. But I also don't rate Brosnan that high. I would take him over Moore, but Moore still gets viewed for out of nostalgia. But that last Brosnan film was easily one of the worst Bond films ever. Terrible stuff, absolutley terrible. The two Daltons are two of the best Bonds though, IMO. I am not familiar with the first guy mentioned though. TV series guy, never watch TV shows. So by default I go with Daniel, but I can't see him as Bond really. I've seen Road to Perdition, the near perfect gangster flick. I voted for Craig as well because he always plays a tough character, and I'd like a more gritty Bond. I'm not sure what to think of McMahon, he looks like a Bond but I haven't seen him enough to really know what he'd be like as 007.
  19. Considering that Bush the elected official who has had 4 years in power already is obviously going to have more stuff to be negative about. I'm surprised it isn't more lopsided. "Examining the public perception that coverage of the war in Iraq was decidedly negative, it found evidence did not support that conclusion. The majority of stories had no decided tone, 25 percent were negative and 20 percent were positive, it said. The three network nightly newscasts and public broadcaster PBS tended to be more negative than positive, while Fox News was twice as likely to be positive as negative." Other than that, the article wasn't really about bias.
  20. I'll be there but I have done no planning to this point. Just printed up draft kits.
  21. That's a pretty scary thought, wouldn't Russia be pretty pissed off?
  22. QUOTE(EvilMonkey @ Mar 12, 2005 -> 10:02 PM) Way to cherry-pick from that to the one statement that probably stuck in your craw. No comments on him being let go after admitting to killing the women? After DNA evidence was there? About his statements that seem to make HIM out to be the victim here? Anything? Try to stay focused. I know its hard, but you can do it! I read the story and was confused about why they let him off and what the hell this has to do with being liberal.
