Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords shot in head
KipWellsFan replied to Balta1701's topic in The Filibuster
In Canada when a politician says batsh*t crazy things, the party kicks them out, they're marginalized, they resign, they apologize etc. In the United States they get re-elected, the media promotes them ad nauseam, or they get big media deals. When the American people say they've had enough, things will change. But they won't. There's a massive audience for this crap. With all the insanely crazy stuff she's said over the last couple of years Michele Bachman still just got re-elected. For a district on the outskirts of Minneapolis/St.Paul. Hardly the most radical place in America. Something is just f*cked. -

There's nothing you can really do about Rush though. Just ignore him. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 07:19 PM) I haven't watched my Blu Ray copy but didn't know it was an extended version. I hope it is not cuz I loved the theatrical version and these extended versions can hurt a movie, lik eyou said. The copy I had rented offered you the choice to chose either version. I accidentally clicked extended, but was too lazy to go back and change it. I regretted it.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 10, 2011 -> 04:51 PM) Your taste. It's so bad! Just make sure you watch the theatrical version. I made the mistake of watching the extended version on blu ray the other day. A bunch of extra scenes that really slowed things down. Enjoyed the movie immensely at the theatre.

There are over 300 million Americans. Things like this are going to happen every once in a while. Loughner has no discernibly coherent political ideology and there is absolutely no proof that this has any connection with Glen Beck, Sarah Palin, Sharron Angle etc. That being said, the crazy sh*t those types spew is stupid, and grossly irresponsible. But most of us here knew that before this happened, and will continue in that belief. And the odds of this horrible incident toning down the political rhetoric in the long run? Zero. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Jan 6, 2011 -> 02:58 PM) What the hell are James Franco and Natalie Portman thinking? Hahaha, looks pretty funny. Though this is the crappy version of the trailer where Natalie Portman's thong is digitally covered with bottoms.

Gene Sperling, and Bill Daley. Obvious marxists, and clear signs that Obama is radically left of Bill Clinton. Obama's dad was an anti-colonialist dontchaknow!

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jan 6, 2011 -> 06:36 AM) Did you see the trailer for The Troll Hunter that I put up? Im looking forward to that. Shoestring budget That looks awesomely terrible. I have to see it. Muslism bit at the end was funny too.

Umm it looks like its overcast in all of North America so I guess we're all out of luck. But who really cares anyway.
-
Who decided to call him dirtbag?!?!? I got mad respect.

What are the odds the President just signs some kind of executive order to end DADT? The House and Senate supports repeal, and polls seem to show the people do.

I thought Girl with the Dragon Tatoo was very solid. I'd take a look.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 01:37 AM) I'll check and ask my friend what exactly he means. This is not a slam but a serious question. Is Obama our worst president in the last 70 years? Do you even remember the last guy?
-
QUOTE (kapkomet @ Dec 11, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) You mean how they passed health care? That really popular bill that well over half the country hates? Oh, forgot about that? Yah and they were punished at the polls for it. What's your point?
-
QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 11:29 PM) I have a friend who is in the financial field in Chicago and he thinks it'll be 2 more years before the economy even starts to turn around for the better. I have a question: A.) Do you believe this? And B.) Why isn't the economy a national crisis issue. This issue needs to be ATTACKED as much as the terror issue and all other SERIOUS issues. WTF? People are outta work. Well I think that's exactly what Obama was trying to do with this tax cut deal. But government's can only create so many jobs in the short term. America has to make itself more competitive in the long term. Things aren't going to be the way they used to be.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) I'm so angry. 75% of Americans are in favor of repeal. The defense secretary is in favor of repeal. A huge majority of both houses are in favor of repeal. The military is overwhelmingly in favor of repeal. The joint chiefs of staff are in favor of repeal. ...and yet it fails Country borken. I hear what you're saying, but whether the majority is comfortable or not minority rights should be protected!

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 02:54 PM) Here's something Obama should have learned from previous administrations. You can't assume that the Democrats will fall in line lockstep to anything its leadership asks. Especially if you decide to try to force through a "compromise" without inviting Democratic Congressional leadership. In the eyes of the Dem house caucus it is utterly disrespectful, especially given all the heavy lifting they've done over the past two years to Obama's legislative agenda. They feel punished for doing everything Obama has asked of them in the last two years, and if I was in the house leadership, I could see why I would want to do this too. This will pass, but the House Dems need their fingerprints on some of this too. You mean they'll want even more spending and larger deficits and debt?

I follow Rosenthal and Cowley. But is it just me or is Cowley a tool? I mean I thought he's supposed to be an objective reporter, but sometimes he's just as whiny as half of soxtalk.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) In his press conference today, a clearly frustrated Obama defended himself against a final question about how this would be viewed by folks on the left. Visit msnbc.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy I have no idea how this will all work out politically for him, but watching him handle questions like this proves his intellect. Can you imagine how a Bush or Palin would butcher the response to that?
-
Gotta agree with Tex, this seems mostly like increasing government spending and reducing revenue. Sounds pretty crazy. But on the estate tax thing, would it have been zero without this deal?
-
QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) He'll win that debate if his argument is still that the richest 1% needs to pay a little more. If not, then it won't resonate with voters. This deal isn't as bad as the liberal Dems want to believe it is. They did get a lot of what they wanted out of it. But it's also not a great deal either. Unless the Senate plans on changing the rules of debate in that chamber, compromises like this are going to be the only way things will get done going forward. A lot more satisfying if he can also get START and or DADT.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 07:54 PM) Perfect! Now when the Presidency is up in 2 years he'll be beaten over the head for wanting to "raise taxes" when they're expiring. Great! You're already admitting defeat on that debate...
-
Sec. Gates not optimistic about possibility of repeal. http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/articl...3535acf07f3a24c Seriously, wtf...
-
Of course the real question... is the Defence Appropriations bill including an end to DADT going to pass soon?
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 2, 2010 -> 04:57 PM) They might be able to get a deal where START gets through the Senate, and possibly an unemployment benefits extension, in exchange for the tax cuts. One can hope. Okay but how does that help address deficit crisis in any way?
