QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 04:08 PM) 8th in baseball in wOBA, 8th in UZR/150 (plays arguable the most important defensive position on on the field and is #1 at that position), 7th in SB and 2nd in WAR to a firstbaseman. What the hell is wOBA and UZR? I get the point though.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 03:05 PM) Of course. But he's starter worthy. Rios' May: .344/22/8/18/.406/.700/1.106 7 for 9 in stolen bases. Well above average defense at a premium position. Alex Rios, for all intents and purposes, has been the best all-around player in baseball to this point. Not sure about that, but I voted for him. He's my only All-Star White Sock. Ended up voting voting for Casey McGehee and Yadier Molina over Miguel Olivo. Sheesh AL's going to be better again. EDIT: And yah, everyone should just vote once. I'm not down with all this ballot stuffing nonsense. And it works against people like me who actually take the time to properly think through a ballot. Anyways, back to worrying about something that means something.

True, but can't he be chosen by Girardi?

QUOTE (kapkomet @ May 29, 2010 -> 10:14 PM) Really? They can't do anything without approval from our "boot on the neck" Obama administration. Your president told us so.

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 26, 2010 -> 02:10 PM) Check out this major spin job by Yahoo sports: http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-whitesox-ejections First, he dropped his glove. Second off, it'd be nice if they reported the facts and pointed out that the pickoff attempts were clearly not balks. Thanks for pointing that out. I figured that the yahoo article was accurate. Sounds like quite the interesting game.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ May 24, 2010 -> 12:17 PM) Way too much executive power, imo. Different systems aside, I think one of the big reasons Canada was able to get rid of its huge deficits in the 1990s was strong executive power. It's harder to make big decisions in a weak legislative system. I don't think I'd be opposed to the kind of line item veto that Obama is proposing.

QUOTE (Soxy @ May 26, 2010 -> 11:26 AM) Big ups to my Senator (Amy Klobuchar) for calling out some of the sexist coverage of Kagan. I'm not a big Kagan fan, but I don't think she should be publicly critiqued for not sitting like a lady, dressing dowdy or playing softball. I kind of have a crush on Senator Klobuchar. Is that sexist? Or is that sexual harassment?

QUOTE (Rex Kicka** @ May 19, 2010 -> 12:24 AM) Dynamics favor the insurgent in a runoff. Turnout usually drops by 20-30% and the people who come out aren't the people who are voting establishment. Bill Halter will be the Dem nominee from Arkansas I think. Oh yeah, Murtha's seat went to the DEM in the special election in 2008. This is the only district, by the way, that voted for Kerry in 2004 and McCain in 2008. If anti-Democrat sentiment can't win a GOP seat in a GOP leaning district this year, maybe the anti-Democrat sentiment is a bit overstated. Or maybe Critz was a good candidate...

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 12, 2010 -> 08:47 AM) Obama looks good in a pearl necklace. Ewwww.... -
Meh. Both Howard and Cheadle are very forgettable in the role. That being said it's a pretty fun action movie. I didn't really dig Mickey Rourke's character. I'm still trying to figure out what his beef was, and I couldn't really figure out if he was a bad guy or a good guy. And all that stuff about the new element... chincy plot device that made my eyes gloss over.

Omg! New J.J. Abrams trailer produced by Steven Spielberg that apparently plays with Iron Man. I have a boner!

QUOTE (Brian @ May 5, 2010 -> 05:01 PM) <!--quoteo(post=2142656:date=May 5, 2010 -> 04:49 PM:name=qwerty)-->QUOTE (qwerty @ May 5, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) <!--quotec-->Machete is simply gonna be awesome. I still can't believe they are making this movie but it has a good cast. Too bad Jeff Fahey isn't in it like he was the Grindhouse trailer. edit: Holy crap! He is in it! Thought De Niro was playing his part. The new trailer was just a rehash of the fake trailer. Pretty weak. Seems to me that they may have rushed it to try and capitalize on all the Arizona-related hubub these days. Although that part when the narrator says that they learned that they "f***ed with the wrong Mexican" gets me every time.

Sandoval wants Sox to move out of Camelback Ranch

I'd rather keep the politics out of sports. And if some players are detained because of this law, it will just prove that it is completely silly anyways. -
Brendan Fraser seems to have gone insane.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 3, 2010 -> 05:06 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?sh...039&st=5460 Oh boy, I'm not getting into that farce again. I guess for me it's Obama's steady hand at the wheel of two wars, and foreign affairs generally. The appointment of Sotamayor was well handled, and one more judge will be great a few months from now. Signing nuke deal with Medvedev. I also tend to think health care reform was a step in the right direction. But I'm not convinced it's going to help reduce the deficit, and the U.S. fiscal situation is not sustainable.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ May 3, 2010 -> 10:26 AM) LOL. great list. Especially a fan of "Returning science to its rightful place," (really?) "Forge [sic] a meaningful statement from the United Nations" criticizing North Korea's launch of a ballistic missile" (oh! never been done before), "Diminishing the role of lobbyists in the White House" (what? really? when?), and "Engaging world leaders in Europe, Turkey, Latin American and the Caribbean with "strength and humility." (hilarious). So far I've liked: credit card legislation timetable on Iraq lifting ban on stem cell research green energy (would prefer more but ANY movement in that direction is better than none) Things I haven't liked: ecomic stimulus auto bailout healthcare "reform" more troops to Afhganistan failure to provide any meaningful financial reform despite promising to do so. 1.5 years later and STILL waiting for something to be done overall tendency that govt is better/more efficient/smarter/etc than individuals (and that awful quote you can make too much money and you have responsibility to give it back) Huh?

QUOTE (joeynach @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 06:09 PM) Most likely go Alexi/Beckham or Beckham/Alexi. I know Alexi isn't hitting worth a lick right now, but getting him in more fastball situations is perfect for him. Ummm, no. Replacing a guy that's struggling, with another guy that is struggling would be silly. Especially with Alexei, because he's not a natural on-base guy. Alexei's got swingawayitis. And lets not pretend Teahen is the solution to take us to the playoffs. While he's been good so far this year, and might keep it up, he's not a natural leadoff hitter. Remember, Juan Pierre's career on-base percentage is still better than Teahan's. Last year Teahen had like 35 walks and 120 Ks. I'd prefer to see if Pierre can get out of this slump. He's the closest thing we've got to a real leadoff hitter. If we give up on him already, we might just be throwing in the towel. Of course I could be wrong. Pierre could continue to be awful and Teahen could continue to take bases like Nick Swisher, but it's unlikely.

Obama's quote: "We’re not, we’re not trying to push financial reform because we begrudge success that’s fairly earned. I mean, I do think at a certain point you’ve made enough money. But, you know, part of the American way is, you know, you can just keep on making it if you’re providing a good product or providing good service. We don’t want people to stop, ah, fulfilling the core responsibilities of the financial system to help grow our economy." Are you guys serious? Who out there doesn't think that at some point more riches won't help an individual. Besides he adds, "keep on making it [money] if you’re providing a good product or providing good service." In addition, if you listen to the to the quote he says it in his jokey/casual way. You can complain about his policies or that they unfairly burden the wealthy job creators all you want. But this quote doesn't mean s***. I don't trust someone who doesn't at some point realize that more money doesn't really help you, and make your life better. But as Obama states, if you're creating a good product/service (think jobs), all the power to you!
