QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 11, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) http://www.newsbusters.org/?q=blogs/lachla...gns-will-msm-ta I experienced phoney protestors trying to make it look as if left of center protestors were comparing the Prime Minister to Hitler here in Canada. There's always these idiots.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) But...the path to serving on the court shouldn't necessarily be limited to "working your way up as a judge". I meant that all politicians are not equally worthy of serving on the court. Meaning Sarah Palin has no business being mentioned in the same sentence as Amy Klobuchar or Hillary Clinton for example.

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Apr 10, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) Or a hockey mom from a small town in Alaska. I don't really know much about Booker, but politicians are not equally qualified to serve on the courts.

Obama probably already knows who he wants to nominate. And they're just going through the vetting now to be safe. Oh, and I found it kind of funny that Stevens was confirmed 98-0. Ha! I wonder what the odds are of that happening this time around.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) We'll see if it's right of course, but I found this argument that Sarah Palin is very likely to be the Republican Nominee in 2012 to be an accurate summation of my feelings right now. Who said Huckabee and Romney are her main competitors? Campaigns matter. And personally I think someone like Haley Barbour or others could chew her up and spit her out. But like you you say, we'll see.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 7, 2010 -> 10:53 AM) Well Hannity has proof of the sarcasm as this article from before the show illustrates. "We've got veterans, we've got stay-at-home moms, people who really don't like the direction of the country. They're speaking out and they've been compared to terrorists, Tim McVeigh-wannabes. They've been called un-American. They've been called every name in the book. Now, the latest attack is that these people are violent," he said. Of course that's ignored even in the Dem thread on this site...where we have so many highly educated and logical posters.. For the record, thanks for clearing that up. Hannity's comment out of context was whack!

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 5, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) The Group "Wikileaks" has seemingly obtained and posted online video of what certainly appears to be the killing of 2 Reuters reporters and multiple Iraqi civilians from a U.S. helicopter in 2007. The social media has a left-wing bias!

QUOTE (iamshack @ Mar 28, 2010 -> 03:53 PM) Ok, so correct me if I'm wrong, but this is about a family of criminals and the son goes to the police and they go after him to keep him from spilling the family secrets? That sounds about right. Apparently it's based on real events. But don't go to the link if you wanna avoid spoilers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Walsh_Street_police_shootings

Speaking of awesome trailers I just came across this one for a new Aussie crime flick called Animal Kingdom starring Guy Pearce.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Mar 24, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) How exactly? My argument was that if this happened to a liberal talking head it would get more publicity. You countered with an example of the opposite. I'm distinguishing the two. How is a guy who allegedly funds a terrorist group and is held out of the country (by its government) the same as a blow hard who gets denied the opportunity to speak because she makes offensive comments? If you have a more comparable example, give it. or a joke For the record Canada's media is to the left of America's and this was top news everywhere. And the Galloway story was pretty big too, but Coulter's story is bigger. Particularly because of her camel comment the day before.

49% say health reform a 'good thing' http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0310/34887.html Although I did see a CBS News poll saying around 47% opposed the bill while 38% supported it a couple of days ago. Either way at this point it doesn't seem to be the end of the world for the Democrats. It's not like Bill Clinton did good in his first midterms, and they didn't pass anything.

Politics aside, Joe Biden rules.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 22, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) He's still a complete douche bag for yelling it out. He's not at a ball game as a mere spectator. If you yell "baby killer" at anyone who doesn't actually kill babies, you're a nut. Period.

Didn't stop Mike Pence and Eric Cantor from claiming that this bill still pays for abortions... I'm confused. And for the record Paul Ryan sounded like Cicero compared to Pence and Cantor.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 21, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) I don't think he's arguing that the Republicans have hurt their electoral chances in November by choosing outright opposition, but that they've done longer-term, deeper damage by their choices. He illustrates it more clearly in the video or the full text. Yah I agree, and Frum has been making a lot of noise about moderating the party lately as you've probably noticed. So this isn't a huge surprise.

Wuss! Here's the coup de grace from that discussion. I do believe that the Republican party has shifted hard to the right on a number of issues, and that being a moderate Republican is very hard, but I'm not convinced that the Republican Party's electoral fortunes are hurt by this. Could the Republican party really be hoping to retake both houses if there was little controversy on this and the bill was more of a compromise? We'll see, I doubt it. Update: There may also be a little bit of self-interest at play here. Frum might know what kind of commentators MSNBC wants. Do you get paid to be a pundit?
