QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 20, 2010 -> 08:49 PM) Just for the point, not that it matters much, but they are still using reconciliation to pass this. Just for lost, the majority of people in this country still don't want this bill. So they use reconciliation to pass it, which at least is not unconstitutional. It's slimey because it's being used for something that is 20% of the American economy, but it's just as slimey as they other side so the side in power gets what they want. Yah, and if the Americans are really upset they can elect some other people at the end of the year. Simple.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 18, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Okay, again, I don't give a f*** that a ®Repubelican (spelling on purpose) did this. It's not constitutional. And FYI, I don't watch even one minute of TV anymore. So Faux yourself. Re: the filibuster - it cracks me up how this is the "same thing", when CLEARLY it's not. I spelled it out for you, but you all want this to be something it's not so bad you can justify anything. And, the UFO-Kucinich is a "big deal" because they are trying to pass this with real votes so they don't have to be unconstitutional and actually pass a real bill. And ALSO as I've said at least three times now, I may not like that outcome, but at least it's legit. If members of congress oppose deem and pass then they should vote against it and then this whole thing can end. Oh yah, they won't because as angry as this might make you, the majority of the members in congress support the bill. Period.

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Mar 16, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) Canada is the model of the Western Euroweenie socialism. They (well maybe not you) even admit it. And then b**** about their taxes while they're at it. You might be joking but I'm not sure...

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 11:13 AM) http://www.calgarysun.com/news/canada/2010...6/13138731.html Seriously, that situation should be rectified as soon as possible. I think most Canadians would agree that the Alberta government should pay for that medication, and the surgery if it's not available here. People should never go bankrupt because of their health. The health problem itself is enough of a burden. Besides that, bureaucracies get frigged up. It happens a lot. And I think from all the stories I hear about south of the border, that would be the same in the private and public sphere. And while bankruptcies related to health issues seem pretty rare here, it's apparently more of a problem down south. Despite our bureaucratic monster I believe Canadians still have a longer lifespan, and health costs per person are less. Of course that doesn't mean we don't have HUGE problems. Not sure if it's really relevant to the issue but in Canada, health care is a provincial area of jurisdiction, but with a large amount of the funding coming from the federal government, that is, if provinces continue to provide the care according to certain tenets of universal care. Alberta is Canada's most conservative province. They haven't really elected a centrist or center-left government in probably over 75 years. During the most recent national election, the Conservative Party won 27 of 28 seats. 28 the election before that. It's kind of like Texas, except I'd argue that the separatist notions are more real here. So I think that's also something you should consider. Especially if you're trying to make us out to be some kind of socialist (marxist if you're Kap) monster.

QUOTE (Soxy @ Mar 8, 2010 -> 01:52 PM) Best part of this story? Wasilla is about 15 hours from Canada. Yah, and the only major population center of note, Whitehorse, is even further away. So who knows what she's talking about. And to add, after I saw that standup routine by Palin, I'm beginning to think her presidential prospects are close til nill. I don't even know if she wants it. She's totally missed the boat on "presidential."

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Mar 7, 2010 -> 01:11 PM) Bill Maher's rant on conservatives' displeasure with Hollywood was kick ass. Yah, that was good. Celebrity activists do annoy me a little, but Maher was dead right.

Seriously though, while they're still not particularly high, Obama's approval on terrorism, foreign affaris and conduct of the wars is where the American public are most satisfied and confident in him. I have a hard time seeing where any moderate right wingers can really criticize Obama in any major way. Seems to have a pretty steady hand at the wheel on these issues despite some mistakes. Also, don't want to give Obama too much credit that probably doesn't really accrue to him, but enforcement and military achievements.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 3, 2010 -> 06:46 PM) Sometimes I get bored and read politicians' Facebook pages to see if any smart people are talking. I went on Mike Pence's page today and the answer is clearly no. Here is why: "Good morning Mike! I have a question....if the Dems actually use the reconciliation process to pass this healthcare bill that is directly AGAINST the "will of the people", isn't that a direct violation of the Constitution since they are "required to govern according TO the will of the people"? Wouldn't that be a justifiable reason for impeachment?" I mean, really, I'm not sure where to start. Opposing the healthcare bill is one thing. Making it clear you've never seen the actual Constitution and don't know what a representative democracy, federal republic, or an election is is quite another. I keep hearing kooks say that Obama is violating the constitution. But they never say how. And they tried to impeach Clinton, some tried to impeach Dubya, and you just know that eventually some will be trying to do it to Obama.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 07:32 PM) Step 1. Edit tapes. Step 2. Fox News. Step 3: Blame Democrats. Apologies in advance for this lack of political correctness, but Brooklyn has a lot of black people...

Haven't seen one of these posted, so here it is for some levity. Barack Obama's Facebook Feed The health care summit, CPAC, and Robert Gibbs' tweets. http://www.slate.com/id/2245175/ The part about Patterson is the best.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Feb 28, 2010 -> 04:48 PM) I'm sure there are Canadian versions of TRU rooting for the USA. I don't know of any. There are some people of European descent that cheer for their home countries like Russians and Slovakians though. -

QUOTE (kapkomet @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) Hillary Clinton started it all again. Yup, that's the relevant point here.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 01:01 PM) Except in this case she actually was the leader in the polls and the early primaries. Sarah Palin has led NOTHING. Not even the right wing of the party that supposedly loves her so much, let alone the entire party. I thought I remember Palin being the Vice Presidential nominee? Seriously though, what the hell are you guys really debating here? Can you really blame people in the center right, center, and center-left for being concerned about Palin.

But al-Qaeda didn't even try to cover up their involvement. hehe

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 18, 2010 -> 08:01 AM) Who is this woman and what did she do with Dianne Feinstein? Is she facing a primary challenge I don't know about? That's bizarre for her. Soooo... ummmm..... 40 or so Senators to go?

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Feb 17, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) Right, like the fact that the study focused on his Talking Points segment, which is the soap box portion of the show. Shocker he wouldn't stick to the professional standards of journalism there. I mean i don't want to argue that O'Reilly is better than Olbermann, that he's more of a journalist. I'm just saying that besides from the "that guys stupid" or "that's insane," I've never heard him attack someone with such unsubstantiated vitriol, which had little to do with whatever he was reporting on, and everything to do with his hatred for a certain segment of society. I'm still shocked that no one went after Olbermann for it. He was basically saying "look who these f***tards just elected," and then proceeded to bash him. If someone on Fox News had done that the uproar would have been deafening. Jon Stewart went after Keith for that rant, and so did I in this thread.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Feb 16, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) Maddow is opinionated but not crazy. Olbermann is definitely pretty off. Olbermann is entertaining in the same way I assume O'Reilly is entertaining to some on the right. With Maddow, at least I sometimes feel like I learned something.

QUOTE (mr_genius @ Feb 3, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) i've seen him on TV before. He's is legit crazy. If it means keeping Hayworth out, and that's genuinely why McCain is being so lame, then I guess the means justify the end.

QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 1, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) I finally finished the article. In a nutshell, the rational that he could win . . . Governor of a large GOP state Texas' economy is doing rather well Guess who is Finance Chair for the Republican Governor's Association? Perry, which gives him access to national money. He's a battler and survivor So my GOP buddies, he could be your guy. Perry - Palin '12 With all due respect, I thought Republicans were supposed to be wrapping their heads around winning over voters who live in these things called cities. Perry and Palin?

I would say no. If you're really annoyed about it thought I'm sure there's some pretty sweet kits out there. You should just consider yourself lucky you have a car at all.
