You really, really need to look at what other SP are being traded for. Vaughn alone would get a lot more than Manaea. Burger/Sheets + a pitching prospect is more realistic

So if they win 85 games but make the ALCS that would be more validating than winning 105 and losing in the ALDS? I have no idea how anyone puts more weight into a best of 5 series than a 162 game season

No. I'd rather just sign Pineda and keep Crochet + Sheets. The Twins got Sonny Gray, a better pitcher than Montas, for a far lesser prospect than Crochet alone.

The obvious response to that is that if the price is an Andrew Vaughn level return, Montas will be pitching in Oakland this season.

If Bassitt can be had for JT Ginn then Vaughn would be a massive overpay for Montas. Even Sheets + Crochet is an absurd overpay. Again, the Twins got Sonny Gray for just Chase Petty. That's the type of value you look for. If Montas costs that much, just walk away and find a different deal

That Zach Lavine extension isn't going to pay for itself

Vaughn will probably be the second best hitter on the team this year. He needs to play everyday and he needs ABs vs RHP, even if it isn't clicking right away. It's odd some of our fans look at Vaughn as a finished product, hell Adley Rutschman, the #1 pick from Vaughn's draft class, hasn't even played a MLB game yet.
