Thinking through this out loud in an attempt to ease my mind a bit. In the simplest terms, for me it all comes down to: Can the talent overcome the flaws? This team might have the most talent in baseball. They also have: Piss poor fundamentals Negligent managing Problematic roster construction Questionable organizational decision making and chain of command Unfortunate injury luck I absolutely think they have enough talent to win in spite of the above, but it's a lot to overcome. Some things are in their control to fix (fundamentals,...well I wish this list was longer), others they're just sort of stuck with. Time will tell. Good thing it's a long season. A loooong, roller coaster of a season.

How bad can you be on defense and still make the postseason?

If the Rays are doing it, it must be the cool new thing to do. Looks like we’re ahead of the curve on this one. -

You keep referencing his mouthing and showboating and I’m not sure exactly what you’re referring to. -
Had zero issues with Banks pitching there. If you can’t be trusted to protect a 6 run lead in the 9th inning, I don’t know what purpose you serve.
-
This team is fucking annoying.
-
Keuchel just needs to pitch to the Sox.
-
He can also hit anywhere in the lineup.
-
Even when we score a run

I'm not gonna pretend to know all the moving parts involved with scheduling, but how does a team like Houston opening the season with 9 road games make any sense?
-
Until Kopech is able to consistently go deeper into games, you’re likely gonna need some of those other dudes for his starts as well.
-
Exactly how many tables has Robert flipped over in the clubhouse to prove he has #TWTW? He needs to look himself in the mirror. And then throw a chair through it.

I don’t know what the pitching injuries have to do with leading the league in errors. Or not being able to take a walk. Or playing the always fun “Whose Turn Is It To Groundout Weakly?”
-
There’s a lot more wrong with this team than injuries, though. The little league defense, the inability to take a walk, the extreme ability to issue a walk, the roster flaws and redundancy, the manager decision making. While I definitely don’t think they’re as bad a team as they’ve shown, and I still think they can recover from this, I’m not going to expect things to suddenly turn around once they’re healthy. And for that matter, I’m not actually expecting them to ever “be healthy” at this point, whatever that may even mean.

Welcome to apathy. The true rock bottom.

We’re totally misunderstanding each other. It’s fine. I’d rather bond over the shared misery that is being a fan of this team right now.
-
Yeah, I have no interest in helping you better articulate your shitty hot takes. Carry on with your baseless judgmental nonsense.
-
I think the division still mostly sucks and the Sox are clearly the superior team (even with this recent atrocious stretch), but judging the improvement of any team based on 15 games feels premature.
-
Well then you probably should have led off with the fact that you were basing this off of a random rumor from an internet message board, you know, rather than saying:
-
Allegedly 30 pounds overweight? Have you heard Eloy/the training staff say that or are you deciding what the right weight is for him? Serious question btw.
-
This is really your belief?
-
The amount of shitty comments in here making fun of Eloy is embarrassing.
-
This is way too easy to say in hindsight. Sure, they ended up looking lethargic the whole time, but we’ve all seen many games where teams look like crap for a few innings and then put up a 4 spot.
-
Yeah, the playoffs being somewhat of a crapshoot is not breaking news. I’d rather see the team that spent years losing on purpose in order to have a window of contention put themselves in the best possible position to succeed, rather than cross their fingers and hope for the best like some fringe contender. But I guess that’s just me!
