  1. But…they’re not winning. If you need the team to be good in order to avoid attention on how you call a game, then you’re probably not that good at your job.
  2. Welcome to the Losers Club, Yankees. We all float down here ?
  3. If his value is actually being gauged based on three game increments, yeah, he ain’t getting moved. That’s so dumb.
  4. Holy f***. It’s three appearances over seven days in a five month long season. A promising young pitcher experiencing something like this mid season is not the worst thing in the world. See if he can bounce back. See if the pitching staff can help him through it. It’s a great test for all of them, and not exactly super high stakes.
  5. Even though I fully agree that Fedde > Eflin, I wouldn't be surprised if there were a few teams that preferred Eflin for whatever reason. As caulfield says, that's really the only thing that matters. Exclamation Point!
  6. This is where I'm at. At some point you have to start turning around the bad reputation there seems to be across the league. Rushing a player back from a serious injury because there's potential for an extremely marginal return, only to have him reinjure himself, does not help the look for an already questionable organization.
  7. Is he actually moping or is it just part of an introverted personality? To be clear, I’m not actually asking you. It’s a rhetorical question. Why? Because there’s no way for you to know that answer.
  8. I'd like Schriffen to: 1) Read the room a little bit. No, this does not mean he needs to sounds like a mopey Soxtalk poster. It means show a little more awareness about the team in a larger context. I understand part of his job is to sell the team, but when you're laying it on that thick it makes it hard for fans to connect with you and becomes a completely unrelatable experience. 2) Make the broadcasts less one-sided. Stop treating every opposing player and team like nameless faceless bad guys. Baseball is fun! Whoever the Sox opponent is probably has some interesting things going on in their season. The league is full of great players. Sometimes it's good to acknowledge those things instead of sharing yet another note about how Vaughn says he's seeing the ball better.
  9. What? It’s been 5 starts, 4 of which have come against some of the league’s worst offenses. Don’t get me wrong, Thorpe has looked solid. It’s encouraging. But let’s give the kid some time before we pencil in his stats for the next few years.
  10. Hell yeah. Good for him. Also lol at making your MLB debut vs the Dodgers.
  11. I imagine this doesn’t take them out of the Fedde sweepstakes. They need another SP.
  12. Absolutely. It was more of a response to the “downright refusal to pay players past their rookie contracts” line.
  13. The rebuild has now officially taken flight
  14. They’ve recently extended TA, Moncada, Eloy and Robert, so they are willing. Jerry just refuses to do it for starting pitchers.
  15. This is emblematic of the top heavy/no depth system the Sox had at the time. They basically needed to hit on all of the higher ranked prospects, both on the pitching and hitting side, because there was nothing else. Currently, the hitting side still seems like a bit of a mess, but I at least feel a little better about the development and depth on the pitching side. You obviously want high ceiling guys, but at least it's not the extreme quality over quantity approach from the last rebuild.
  16. The refusal to read the room is kind of insulting tbh.
  17. It’s nice that he’s had some pretty easy matchups to start his career. Probably helps the confidence a bit.
  18. Absolutely not, and I'm not saying Getz has done a good job. I just think the suggestions that he's been trying to field a competitive team this whole time and this is the outcome are absurd. I believe the moves made have been a mix of plan AND panic and I don't get why it has to be entirely one or the other.
  19. They're literally holding tryouts in-season for guys to see if they can accrue enough value to be flipped at the deadline. How is that not trying to be bad?
  20. Can someone remind me what the roster crunch was that forced Pillar out? There's been so many moves that it's hard to keep track.
  21. This data is misleading because it conveniently omits the "Number of David Ecksteins on team" category.
