Some are of the philosophy that once you get the guy warmed up and ready, and he's already in the game, it already counts as an appearance so you might as well let him go the normal distance if you can. I think TLR did that.
As I said though, personally, I think that low pressure situation on the road was a good chance for him to get that first bad outing out of the way. The really important decision was bringing him in during the 8th when the game was tight. And I do think he's a different pitcher in a save situation, and I also hope that with Crochet still available, if it was a save situation with Hendriks really struggling, TLR would have gone to Crochet if necessary rather than adopting the "live and die with my closer" mindset, which I hate.
