  1. I wonder what Realmuto will do if McCann signs with the Mets. I bet Cohen doesn't like bidding against himself. It seems like everything is Mets this, Mets that, but they are only going to sign so many players for so many positions. Oh what will become of he who does not sign with the Mets?
  2. People like Jim Bowden make trades. Long-time scouts and medical staff provide input. At the end of it all is an owner who really knows little if anything about baseball who makes decisions. Way to grossly overstate the importance of a few poindexters running numbers. MLB clubs have a shitload of money and can grossly overpay for all kinds of basic services. The Astros were hiring out of NASA. What a fucking joke. If you're a baseball fan and you happen to be employed by NASA maybe you leave for a fatter check and a dream job. You get to be a kid again, go play with your toys, etc. But just because some legitimate scientist took a baseball job does not mean that the baseball job needed to be done by some scientist from NASA. If some guy from NASA makes your blizzard for you at Dairy Queen it is still a blizzard and it's still Dairy Queen and just about anyone can still do it. BTW I agree with Jack. Bauer is not, nor has he ever been, in Strasburg/DeGrom/Sale/Scherzer/Kershaw/Greinke/Price/Verlander etc. territory when those guys all got their huge deals. If someone wants to pay an Aston Martin price for a BMW, fine, let them, and I hope it's not us. jerry reinsdorf is never going to operate with the kind of payroll that allows a team to absorb the mistakes of overspending by $6-10M or so on so many players. He's already going to be doing it with your boy Grandal.
  3. Kayleigh McEnany is sooo hot. She is literally the one and only thing I am going to miss about this presidency.
  4. Seriously, Grandal + Dunning for Wheeler. Then sign REALMUTO
  5. holy shit that's bad Sox could probably get him just for taking on his contract. They can have Bernardo Flores. Why would we want this guy anyway? Are we trying to get worse? Just start Dunning, he's already here and isn't making $17M next year.
  6. Yeah we can do that one for sure. I will also recycle my Grandal + Lopez for Vazquez + Eovaldi deal. The Red Sox say no to that and the Sox would have to add more, but it's a framework.
  7. The real Cohen is probably setting up for 2-3 big moves at once. The Sox will be lucky to make 1. More likely they'll make 0 and say they tried to make 1.
  8. There is no planet in this solar system where a defender like Grandal is a top-2 catcher in the league. You're just breathing in all that hot air from fartgraphs. I don't need to inhale, I can smell it from a distance.
  9. Also not to sidetrack this but cable tv packages really need to be ala carte already. I didn't want to pay the extra few dollars for Marquee anyway, but now? There's really no reason to force people to have channels they don't want, especially when it's just a bunch of garbage. Cubs baseball the next 2-3 years is going to be absolute garbage IMO. Like they're pre-rebuild Sox but without the horses in the rotation. Watch them trade Bryant for the equivalent of Brett Lawrie.
  10. It seems like the person/people saying "Fuck the Cubs" are the Ricketts tho
  11. McCann probably would have signed easily for 3/21 before 2020, maybe even 4/24 or 4/26 with the 4th year being an option. Grandal will be Hahn's new Melky Cabrera: solid player, not the best, good hitter, not worth the contract.
  12. McCann is going to be a better overall player on a better overall contract than Grandal. Sox fucked up with this one. I wish the Sox had an owner like Cohen. Then he'd respond by signing Realmuto and Bauer and we'd be better off anyway.
  13. Also sucks for Andy Masur. But he and DJ didn't sound very good together on the radio. Honestly I love DJ but he doesn't really sound great with anyone. I think he would probably be a better pre and post guy. But that said I really do love DJ. He's one of the most likeable people ever.
  14. If Bennetti goes I will be so happy. The sooner he's out of here the better. Re: Kasper, I like him, but he's more the national type than the typical Chicago-style homer. On the radio I think he might work very well. I like the guy who does the PBP for the Charlotte Knights games. He would be an excellent replacement for Bennetti. Also I liked the guy who did some of the Sox ST games last year. I bet there are lots of good PBP guys in MiLB that can focus on the game of baseball properly. Bennetti is such a dork. And all his big calls suck. I'm not going to rant about this but seriously, if he has any aspirations of increasing his national time, great, go do it, good riddance, GTFO of here already.
  15. Royals IMO BTW they really should trade Merrifield this winter. WTF are they doing?
  16. IMO we need defense in RF. Assuming no Springer, Joc is #1 for me and then it's a real dropoff from there. If Markakis can still play RF well, then he would be of interest. JBJ's offensive year last year probably isn't who he really is. Engel and Leury + a $7M RP is probably a much better overall move than say $7M to JBJ. I don't really want to see an expensive trade in terms of prospects. I'd like Starling Marte the most but he might cost a decent prospect. I wouldn't mind giving them Adolfo or Lopez though if MIA is interested. I bet would could take Avi back from MIL for basically nothing, just give them a non-prospect who yet shows up on prospect lists like Pilkington and take back the salary and he's ours IMO. That's basically the same as signing a FA.
  17. I hope there is another team out there who values both Madrigal and Weems so highly and is also willing to trade young players and prospects. If there is, I want to make a deal with that team now.
  18. I only want Tanaka for one year anyway, same with Paxton These 2 have the best ability to dominate a lineup. We should be looking for a playoff Game 2 starter here first, not some guy who eats innings and who we really want to slot 4th in a playoff rotation (like Q). If our prospects develop we only need to fill 1-2 holes in 2021, then 0-1 holes in 2022. Do what the Braves are doing and go year to year, but bring in some upside.
  19. In theory, if the choice is to either spend the money all on the 2nd tier FAs while keeping the prospects and not making any significant trades to fill holes, or sign one marquee FA that eats up the budget and then resort to depleting the farm in trades to fill the other holes, I would much rather sign all second-tier FAs and keep the prospects. Ideally we would just sign Springer, Bauer, Colome, and add another RP. But we won't do that, and we probably wouldn't add more than a couple million on top of signing a marquee FA. So sign me up for Tanaka/Paxton + Joc + Colome + additional RP and I will be okay with that, knowing we're not dumping quality prospects. That would make Cease the #4 and Dunning the #5 but I am just fine with developing those guys.
  20. Also I wanted to say that I see people are shitting on Phil Rogers again in another thread. I believe it was BA that Phil Rogers used to write for back in the "man-child" Juan Silverio days, where Phil the dipshit would call up Dave Wilder and just start writing down whatever he was told, then post it in the prospects list.
  21. I know the focus is on Weems but the biggest stretch in that list is Madrigal as a better prospect than Vaughn, Crochet, and Kopech. IMO it's arguable he should also be below Dunning, Stiever & Kelly (I would probably rank him that way).
  22. I'd love to take a shot on him if we didn't already have so many DHs. I think he will get a lot of interest, especially with the DH probably coming back to the NL next year.
  23. It was virtual rehab via zoom. He had a flask under his desk. Also, the instructor had his dick in his hand for like 70%+ of the lecture.
