  1. Tina's Sour Tuna Taco: Sox will sign Springer by the end of the week Dick's Fat Meatballs: Hey Tina yer stealin my info I had it first Joe's Hard Salami: Tina and Dick are the same person! Etc. Also WSD is a bigger dork than any of the other ones
  2. Maybe I should have embedded the Twitter post of Billy's Hot Sausage who was the person who said it was being discussed. I think it's a very fair deal for the Sox.
  3. I think he needs a change of scenery. Put him in the Snell deal. Snell + Arozarena for all of our garbage. Randy at the press conference: "Yo estoy muy sincerio. Lo siento, mi amigos."
  4. ??? Sox trade: Dunning, Thompson, Dalquist, Lopez, Burdi, Adolfo Sox get: Darvish, Lynn, Heyward, $6M cash per season on Heyward's deal from Cubs Cubs trade: Darvish, Heyward, Kimbrel Cubs get: Andrus, Dunning, Dalquist, Lopez Rangers trade: Lynn, Andrus Rangers get: Thompson, Adolfo, Burdi, Kimbrel, $4M cash from Cubs on Kimbrel, $4M cash from Sox
  5. Sure but you're still talking about RPs though. I think anyone we sign or trade for, in one season especially, could go bad. Look at Edwin Diaz's first season on the Mets, etc. As a closer I'd take Colome over Brad Hand 10 times out of 10 though, as an example. I think we can get Raisel Iglesias in a trade, Hader too, if we want to pay those prices. Iglesias should be much cheaper, but a FA costs no prospects.
  6. I wouldn't want to. But it depends on what else is going in the package and how long the Sox think it will be before Kopech is throwing a full season of starts. Here are a few things we can hang our hats on though: (1) Kopech is still going to have probably similar or greater trade value at this point midseason, and Kopech will still have tons of trade value even if he comes up this season and falters, and now we're in the 2021-22 offseason; (2) Blake Snell, if he's still on the Rays midseason, is still going to be on the trade block, and his trade value will likely be lesser because of fewer months of team control remaining (3) Even if Snell is gone and we want to trade Kopech for a top-end SP later, if there is a guy out there available on any team, Kopech will put the Sox solidly in the discussion. Overall if the Rays feel like they will need to move that salary, then they are more under pressure than the Sox are. The Sox have the pieces selling teams want, so we're good going forward. It is really all about how much can our developmental and coaching staffs help our young pitchers realize their potential. I really don't like the idea of bringing in some new pitching coach with some supposedly new philosophy and then cutting bait on arguably our best young SP outside of Gioluito before giving the guy a chance to work with him. I think it's very fair if not preferable that the Sox really wait a year before trading any of their quality young SP prospects/young MLB SPs, outside of Lopez of course. These guys are still going to have lots of value a year later, even Cease.
  7. I don't think he gets more than a 1 year deal with a team option on it anyway. IMO there's really no reason to worry about anyone on a deal like that. Anyone can get hurt at any time.
  8. Whoa we posted 1 min apart both talking about Colome's stones. Lol never mind. I was tricked by my browser. I actually just quoted you again.
  9. Colome has always been greatly underappreciated here. He's never going to be a big K guy but if we have an IF defense we're fine with him. The only complaint I have is that he takes so damn long to throw the ball, but other than that? Show me all of these closers that have 1-2-3 9ths all of the time. Usually there's some trouble. Usually, every inning for just about any pitcher of any kind there's trouble, it's just that it becomes more of a fan focus if it's the 9th inning. In baseball, just about everyone has a WHIP above 1.0. Everybody is allowing more than 1 baserunner per inning. I like that Colome does a pretty good job of making quality pitches. He's trying to be enticing but not leave cookies in the middle of the plate. Sometimes hitters lay off and the break isn't as sharp and he falls behind. But he has a pair, and I want a closer with a pair. I think he's a lot like David Robertson in that respect, not necessarily the best closer but he's got closer's stones. OTOH I never thought Kimbrel had any stones even with the stuff he had. I'd always rather have a guy out there who will put the ball in the strikezone. And because he's a pitch-to-contact guy, Colome just needs the hitter to swing at one of his pitches and put it in play. He doesn't have to have a minimum of 3 pitches to record an out. I'd bring him back for sure but I think we're probably going to wait Springer out before we do anything. After Springer signs, I would not at all be shocked to immediately see the Sox agree to terms with a RP, including potentially Colome.
  10. I'm happy Kopech opted out of this season, marriage related or not. Giving up 2 years of service time for 1 lost TJ year plus another pandemic shortened season that wouldn't have helped much anyway would have been a huge loss. IMO any "red flags" on Kopech do not in any way overshadow all of the green lights on him. This guy is an absolute stud of a pitching prospect.
  11. I think the Rays would have a lot of interest in Matt Foster also as part of a Snell deal, likely as a 4th piece, or as a 3rd piece if the first 2 pieces were huge. I think the deal that the Rays would want, without including Vaughn, would be something like Kopech + Stiever + Bailey + Foster or Kopech + Dalquist + Thompson + Foster, something like that. And I would be very uncomfortable giving up really any of those guys, but most uncomfortable giving up Kopech, then Stiever, then Bailey, then Dalquist/Thompson. But I think that either could be a fair best offer and if the Sox made it, I couldn't say they "overpaid" at the time on paper.
  12. Dunning + Foster + some other piece for Gray + Iglesias, as a general framework, if the Reds want to chop salary
  13. I think this is our news. It makes no sense for us to make a big move when we're still chasing our biggest target. Maybe a Marquez + Blackmon deal would make a lot of sense (since that is being rumored) if Springer goes elsewhere. Springer signing here or not will be the biggest determinant on $$$ available for spending, and route of transactions.
  14. I'd give up Cease for Snell but not for Gray. The Rays always want to dump contracts. All the other teams know that and they're not going to give up multiple blue chippers for the guy. They just won't have to. We would have to add more but Cease + Thompson + Collins is enough of a base where maybe you add a smaller 4th piece like a kid like Mena or Yolbert Sanchez or you at most upgrade that 4th piece to Dalquist or Dunning territory, in which case the 4th piece becomes the 2nd piece. But that's enough, and it's still a lot. If the Rays wouldn't take it then I don't care. And I don't think the Sox need to even do that. If we sign Springer and another pitcher, this team is going to be STACKED anyway. Honestly, I am really most excited about developing our SP prospects and young MLBers under a new pitching coach and system. Getting "stuck" with Cease, Kopech, Kelly, Crochet, Stiever, Dunning, Thompson, Dalquist, etc. even to an extent ReyLo with some of the young RP arms we have really isn't a "bad" feeling for me at all. I really want to see what can be done to get these guys moving forward. I really cannot honestly remember a time when the Sox had this much SP talent. I guess it would have had to be late 90s early 2000's but so many of those guys gut hurt and busted that it's hard to even know what we had back then. But I'd say we have probably the best collection of SP depth we've had since about 2000 or 2001.
  15. Eloy to Albert Belle is definitely an interesting comp. I like that one.
  16. TLR will spend the next month and a half or so in quarantine with his stepbrothers Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, and Johnny Walker. The only thing under their tree is going to be beer cans, pizza boxes, and puke. And it won't have any lights on it either because they're too damn bright.
  17. Never forget. The dorf wills you just forget. But never forget anyway.
  18. Heyward and Darvish should come with a ton of cash if we did that, but the fit is good enough. We also shouldn't give up too much in that. I don't really want to trade with Texas. I'd rather sign Lynn as a FA and I don't want Gallo at all. Marquez would be nice, but Blackmon wouldn't improve our defense. Now if we moved Blackmon to LF and Eloy to DH and still got a RF then out OF D would be significantly better, but then we would have to either move Abreu or Vaughn, or delay Vaughn until midseason or longer. I'm not really interested in dealing with the Royals either. I'll just say it too: Merrifield is a pretty shitty RF. He's still a 2B in RF IMO. I would be interested if the Sox trade Madrigal but even if that was the case I'd much rather put Mendick out there than give up whatever the Royals will ask for Merrifield. I don't think Hader fits that well here. I think Hader would be a good fit for the Yankees who have several pieces like Cessa, Loaisiga, Montgomery, etc. that they can trade now and then they can add some lower-level talent to the package, and that might be good for MIL if they rebuild/reload. Cain OTOH is interesting but he's best utilized as a CF and we're not moving Robert. I really don't think MIL is a fit for us unless they make Yelich available which they won't, and I think Woodruff would be way too costly and there's no reason for them to move him so soon with so much control left. I think Snell is most likely, personally. TB is always willing to send out a big contract and we have the pieces to make that deal.
  19. I highly doubt anything major happens until Springer signs. It seems like the Sox #1 target and biggest potential $ costs would be over Springer. If Springer signs elsewhere then maybe they will pivot to Bauer or maybe they will look at taking on money in a trade.
  20. MLB trade values as always has some really shitty and stupid ratings for players, e.g. Garrett Crochet and Luis Gonzalez having equal trade value. Crochet is a centerpiece or #2 in a huge deal and Gonzalez is like the 3rd piece in mediocre deal or the centerpiece in a deal for a MR. I would do a deal for Musgrove with Dunning as a centerpiece and Collins as the #2, and maybe a couple other interesting pieces after, but nothing huge. I think Musgrove would be a good pickup but I wouldn't give up a top SP arm for him. I'd try to do a little background on him first and would be willing to pay more if we could extend him after the deal and keep him from hitting FA and getting FA market value. Snell would of course be awesome. They could have Cease at the front in that with some good pieces behind it. But if that's not enough then I am fine holding my cards and letting these guys develop a bit. We have excellent ceiling in the SP category and any of these guys who actually develop will be worth a fuckton in trade value.
  21. I know that the Sox aren't going to bring their affiliates to the local area but I would love to see that happen. Same with the Cubs. Not only could Chicago baseball fans support their favorite teams' minor leaguers but the Sox-Cubs rivalry could be developed at the MiLB level, and I think it would be great for those teams from an attendance and revenue standpoint. Similarly I think it would be ideal if that could occur everywhere where natural rivalries exist. It would be great if the Sox could also play the Brewers affiliates a lot just because there's a lot of interest there as well.
  22. reversed, but yes... MLB RP for the stretch run, maybe an opener also, depending on his arm holds up he's their prized antique glass showpiece or whatever, they will be very careful
