If by "offered" you mean "threw out the driver's side window after spotting a blacked-out car on the side of the road turn it's lights on and pull out behind him," then yes, he did, and the guy under the bridge who saw it and picked up the donation was indeed thankful. Also speaking of free turkeys I want to give the heads up that people who download the Ibotta app and link it to their Walmart Grocery app or show their Walmart Grocery receipt can get a free 3lb turkey or $10 off a regular turkey, plus a bunch of free items. I got my $10 turkey discount and free instant mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce today. Fuck yeah! Also if you want to sign up and use my referral code AHCNVOI you get $10 off free. Double fuck yeah!!

FS: 40 Man Roster Decisions and Rule 5 Draft Implications
YourWhatHurts replied to Y2Jimmy0's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Also I am not sure why the risk is worth it to the Sox to leave him off. They really aren't in that "roster crunch of great talent" that people feared because so many quality-looking players busted and/or got hurt and/or ceased developing on track. Basabe, Medeiros, etc. There are still several spots on this roster than can be cleared even on top of the already-avaialable space. Risking losing Burger to keep Bernardo Flores or Seby Zavala for example is a pretty stupid move IMO. The Sox aren't going to need all of this space on the 40 for FAs. The great majority of the club is already on the 40. -
FS: 40 Man Roster Decisions and Rule 5 Draft Implications

1) Reading the tea leaves, the Cubs are not going to be looking at the playoffs next year. 2) Schwarber very well could be nontendered or traded in a salary dump 3) If it's a 28-30 man roster with a bunch of garbage on it anyway, who cares? 4) It's hard to say Burger's ceiling is a poor man's Schwarber seeing as how he has turned out to this point. He'll never have the raw power but he could be a better pure hitter for all we know. 5) They only risk is losing the claiming fee. The potential gain is 6 years of a quality hitter for free. 6) In theory, they can still trade him mid-season to another team willing to stash him for the rest of the season. 7) It's reinsdorf so you know the he's rooting for the claim anyway; he wants that $100K or whatever it is back in his pocket. Even if it's a long shot, I think teams should take chances in the Rule 5 more often. The money is really negligible when you think about the value of 6 years of a good player for free. Especially again in a situation where there may be expanded rosters anyway. -

That is true enough normally but we don't know on Nov 20 what things will be like in April in May. There may again be expanded rosters etc. It's a small amount of money to take him. If I'm the Cubs I pick Burger for sure. They have shit on the roster they can dump and the chance at looking at him to see if he's better than one of the many retreads in camp is worth the money, because those guys have zero trade value, but a rehabilitated Burger will at least have some. -
FS: 40 Man Roster Decisions and Rule 5 Draft Implications

I will predict Sheets is left off. Why? Because they will believe he will not get picked, because other teams will see him as an underdeveloped 1B who provides no positional flexibility, so they won't put him on the 40 because that will markedly decrease his already limited trade value. I think Johnson will get added but his spot will be more of a placeholder spot and will immediately be in jeopardy if the Sox break camp without him on the team. -

Burger will definitely be protected. The other 3 maybe not. I know that Burger is more worthy of a roster spot than Seby Zavala, Bernardo Flores, Ruiz, etc. The others I am not so sure about. -
Most willing for me: Dunning, due to him likely being highly valued by rival GMs, and likely being viewed as more of a sure thing, and also having a lesser ceiling than other guys on the list. He's easier to gauge and I think you can get an excellent player with him as the centerpiece if it's a huge contract with 2 years left or if its 1 year left. You'd be trading high on a guy who is almost a finished product. Depending on the deal, maybe Vaughn or Dalquist next. Dalquist there's a ways of development to go, so if someone offers a great player, then sure. Vaughn would be easy to trade if another team offered up a player who looks to be a near-MLB ready star at another position, but that seems unlikely. There is likely a very short list of players I would trade Vaughn for, but if the other team offered that deal, I would do it easily. Least willing: Kopech, with Crochet second, due to absolute ceiling. There's a lot of risk there that you are trading the best player in the deal and a guy who is going to be contending for Cy Youngs for several years and who is talked about amongst the best of the best of the sport. Tons of ability to give up on.

Seriously, they had a good run. There have been years when they have gotten to the playoffs and had the pieces but just couldn't get through. Look at the Indians, Nats, Yankees, and Dodgers up until this year. Mostly fan bases with excellent cores go home in October regardless. They were fortunate to win one. If the Sox could have a run like that with another title in it, that would be terrific.
-
Even if you're a Madrigal fan it's going to be an uphill battle for a guy like him to make an All-Star team. Lots of 2B have pop and he plays on a team where there are likely to be several All-Star candidates who will overshadow him, like Robert, Eloy, Moncada, Giolito, etc. Overall even in his better offensive years there will be people who argue that his numbers still aren't good enough overall. And I think most Sox fans have been disappointed in his baserunning, raw defensive skills, baseball aptitude, and especially his speed.

I am willing to bet that Brailyn Marquez is quite a bit down the list of the Cubs favorite young players, e.g. he's below Davis, below Hoerner, maybe below Happ, etc. Marquez is still a likely back end RP. Yes he is rated as their best P prospect but we've been down this road before. We've had a lot of not-so-great P prospects who were called SPs but were really more like RP prospects, e.g. Poreda and Fulmer. Taking on all that money is a huge favor to the Cubs. Heyward - what's he get on this market as a FA? $7-8M or so? Seriously, maybe $10M tops? He's owed $20+ for the next 3 seasons and he's already very close to being a 4th OF. If he loses a step at all in that time he's a 4th OF, meaning he's like a $1-2M player on a $20M+ contract. That deal is baaaaad. Darvish pitched a good second half of 2019 and he was excellent in this pandemic shortened season. Other than that, he has been a massive disappointment to the Cubs. Surely they figured they might get some really bad on the back end of that deal when they signed him, but figured they'd get some really good performances out of him on the front end first when they were in position to win another title. So far it has been exactly the opposite. If Darvish did all of this in a Sox uniform, fans here would be pretty excited to see him up his value just so they could watch him walk out the door. That deal looked totally immovable pretty recently.

^Whoever posted the laughing face smiley to this is a loser. I'm really sick of seeing this crap here. If you disagree, make a comment as to why. Remember that this is a discussion board. The Cubs are likely going to nontender Kris Bryant, the former face of their franchise, because they don't want to risk having to pay him like 4 or 5 million more than he's worth. Meanwhile 1.5 years ago Darvish was a bad contract who refused to opt out and test the market because he knew he couldn't get anything near what the Cubs owed him. And Heyward has been a bad deal since Year 1. There's a "quote" button if you have something to disagree with. The laughing smiley icon is just lazy. Whoever did that, fuck you. Not only are you stupid but you're lazy. Also that's not a personal attack because the person who did it is anonymous.

If the Sox took on Darvish and Heyward at once they should get a top young piece, and on the other side should be just "names." E.g. Darvish + Heyward + Marquez for Collins + Lopez + Engel + Marshall

December 6, 2010: Traded by the Boston Red Sox with a player to be named later, Rey Fuentes and Casey Kelly to the San Diego Padres for Adrian Gonzalez. The Boston Red Sox sent Eric Patterson (December 16, 2010) to the San Diego Padres to complete the trade. Not sure why you posted your link. Rizzo was a part of the Gonzalez deal and at the time the main focus was on Casey Kelly, and Rey Fuentes was supposed to be a stud. Those other 2 busting hurt a lot more than trading Rizzo for Cashner overall. Cashner was still a good player for a while.
-
They also go Cashner in that deal. Cashner wasn't exactly a shitty young player and became a pretty good SP who underachieved. And at the time Rizzo looked like he could go the bust route. The realy screwjob there IMO for the Pads was Casey Kelly never turning into anything. There was another player too I think an IF or OF that was supposedly be so great, and he never turned into anything either.

Buerhle should be on there. I would love to see him get in. Andruw Jones as well. And I think Vizquel and Rolen too. Some of the rest of the guys I would have to look at their numbers. But what Buehrle was able to do with his stuff with his career was really one of the most remarkable things I've seen as a fan. He was really the ultimate outlier. He never should have made it but he did, and he threw 2 no-nos including a perfecto, pitched all those years and innings, made people really respect his abilities, etc. Won a WS, saved a WS, and a great fielding P with maybe the most incredible defensive plays / athletic feats on defense you will ever see a P make. Controlled the running game excellently, and like Hawk says, one of the best teammates anyone could ever had. And he never lost his childlike qualities either. Love MB and I hope he gets into the HOF.

I think that their FO (minus ownership probably) genuinely is all on the same page. They probably wouldn't have issues whether Theo stays or goes. But the move by Theo is move of respect for Hoyer and whoever moves up into the GM role. Also it probably keeps that McLeod guy there in a GM role by moving him up. Theo may have wanted to save the organization from being pillaged of a quality executive, in his mind.
-
Theo pulled a John Paxson like 10 years before Paxson pulled a Paxson. KW would never pull a Paxson, ever.
-
Cease has never even pitched a full season at the MLB level. This pandemic year was supposed to the be the first. You do not even expect a young SP to be good until it is at least his second MLB full season. The Sox should be nowhere near the point of giving up on Cease. They gave up on their pitching coach, which is what they should have done.

How bad are the Cubs going to be in 2021?
YourWhatHurts replied to YourWhatHurts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Cubs couldn't get Dane Dunning from the Sox for Mills and Alzolay combined. They would have to add. Neither is an acceptable centerpiece for Dane Dunning. And then Dunning is still a guy who is toward the back end of the Sox SP depth in terms of ceiling. Literally, they could offer Contreras, Baez, etc. put their best players on the table and due to those players' contract situations and $$ situations, not walk away with more than 1 of Cease, Kopech, Kelly, Crochet. -

YourWhatHurts replied to YourWhatHurts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Yeah but no The Sox have literally like 10 guys better than Alec Mills. And Alzolay is a MR. The Cubs (and most other teams around the league probably) greatly envy the Sox SP depth. -
How bad are the Cubs going to be in 2021?
YourWhatHurts replied to YourWhatHurts's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It never really lines up. The Cubs can't get enough pieces in a firesale anymore to make a shorter rebuild possible. Their players are too expensive and too close to FA. And now that the MLB pitching is gone and there's nothing in the pipeline it's really bad. Cubs fans are hoping Brailyn Marquez turns into an ace and Brennan Davis turns into an All-Star the same way Sox fans were hoping Daniel Hudson would turn into an ace and Jared Mitchell would turn into an All-Star. They're at that point where they need to pin all their hopes and dreams on like every possible best case scenario occurring, and that just never happens for any team in baseball. Sox fans can identify with that position fairly well I think. -
Check out his numbers. The Os got him for nothing too.

I just posted one blog link because there are videos in it showing off his arm and pickoff throws. But of course because it's a blog with a spelling error the evidence of at least some of his defensive abilities can be ignored. Yep, sounds like a typical Grandal supporter. I bet even TLR's wife doesn't even make as many excuses for his behavior as you Grandal supporters make for Grandal's behavior.
