GT 6/29 Twins @ White Sox

Its a good lesson to learn if the manager will learn the lesson. He won't. Expect to see Sheets back out there. Shame that this kind of taints his otherwise special night with the bat/magic wand. -

This is why I want us to get Soria and Detwiler so badly. They should be so cheap. Just take on the salary and leave a turd on a shingle and that deal is done. We can't even take out the garbage properly. Foster and Marshall both, you call on the garbage man, they pick up the can and dump it all over the road, then light it on fire and drive away. If you saw the Waste Management guy do that you'd call the company and have the guy gone. But TLR keeps running this shit out there. Damn it. -

There's always a desire to be ideally well-rounded. You want the ability to hit HRs, and also to manufacture runs mostly by playing quality fundamental baseball. You also really love speed. Speed kills (sometimes). There are few things more frustrating in baseball than starting an inning with a lead-off double and then not scoring the guy because nobody can hit the ball to the right side and/or hit a sac fly when necessary. Obviously you'd love the basehit or HR more but execution is important. Every fan will always notice possible areas of improvement. But yes we need more HRs. We also could use some better players, too. -

1) The immediately-replaceable version of Madrigal kind of went away when he started playing better defense and making better throws. And keeping his head in the game more. 2) Danny needs some time. Rome wasn't built in a day. -

You can count Sheets for the *very least* 1 more PA, maybe 2. So you should. -

This is such an interesting post to me. 1) Overbay was a big left-handed hitter too. Polished hitter but I am not sure about the raw pop. Gavin's a big raw power guy who doesn't seem to hit it on the screws very often, getting under it a lot or hitting lots of grounders previously. I'm not sure what the write-up on Overbay was when he was coming up, whether he was a Sheets-like prospect or not. Could have been. 2) We really need to find another team to trade us their 2021 version of Richie Sexson for like 50 meh-ish MLB-ready players. The playstation volume of lower quality trade that never works in reality. We need one of those, and for an OFer too. 3) OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO -
I wonder what people would think of Burger's trade value compared to other Sox prospects. E.g. if Burger was on another team and we had a hole at corner IF/DH (i.e. Abreu is done for the year and we have no Vaughn) and Burger was available for Sox prospects, what would he cost? I think the opinion on him is probably all over the map. But if you think he has a good shot at hitting the MLB fastball and just being a good bad breaking ball hitter, I think you have to see him as a starting option at an offensive position, and that would make him fairly expensive. I don't even know if we have a less-than-Crochet piece that would be a good centerpiece for him. Would Thompson, Kelly, Stiever, etc. work as a centerpiece for Burger if you think he's a legit starter? Probably not IMO unless you add a lot to it. OTOH if you think Burger is a hit-or-miss guy who could be a platoon player or just bench type, the value is pretty low, and maybe you don't even offer one of those players mentioned above. IMO, it's all about how the Sox feel about Burger that matters. If they think he is a potential starter, then I think they need to take the risk and showcase him in the Majors. If not and they just think he's a bench type, then they should probably protect him if there are other teams out there who think he can start. But if everyone thinks he's just a bench type, then you may as well showcase him at the MLB level because you really have nothing to lose and everything to gain by doing that. Maybe he would change somebody's mind a bit if he did well in a showcase.

IMO, if the DBacks really like Burger a lot, we should try to do a 3-team deal with MIA where we get (ideally in my book) Escobar, Starling Marte, Soria + Caleb Smith or Detwiler. AZ should have to give a bit more to pay for Burger's control and upside. They could send whatever that would be to MIA.

Well I for one promise that I will not riot if the Sox choose to trade James Beard. In fact, I don't even know why anyone would want him. OTOH I won't be happy if they trade Bailey, Tatis, Ramos, Rodriguez, etc. I'd like to keep Gladney and a couple of those other guys too. If they trade one of the above OTOH and get a guy who can make a difference then I will understand it. But I won't like it. I will definitely not be happy if they trade Vera.

What does that even mean? There are multiple teams interested most likely. If multiple teams have yet to submit their final and best offers, you are a total hack if you pretend to know what the result of the process will be. You really have no reason to presume anything if you don't even know the players being talked about. Again unless of course you know that the Sox will take on a shitload of salary with him, and you believe you already know that other teams cannot and would not do that. So you're calling the winner because you think you know all there is to know about the salary situation. But I am going to doubt that also. This is the White Sox. Erik Johnson for Shields and his contract was fair; Tatis Jr. was for the cash. And Colas is sitting out this year in large part because the dorf decided he would rather dump buyouts than sign players. I'll believe the massive salary dump angle when I see it. The closest I can ever remember was the straight claim on Alex Rios, who was in his prime and was a load of talent, and whose contract at the time really wasn't bad, it was his production. But everyone else we get cash back on, and usually lots of it.

Good plan there. Give up hits so you can get the outs by throwing out runners trying to score. Brilliant. -
