Lawmakers Reach Deal To Expand Surveillance

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 20, 2008 -> 10:55 PM) I fail to see why anyone has any problems with the Patriot Act. A perfectly wonderful piece of legislation... The most troubling development in the last 8 years of Republican rule is their ability to efficiently twist the simple language in their favor. "Patriot act" "flip flopper" "Free Puppies for everyone Act" "death tax" the list is enormous... Who needs facts when you can sell the country horsecrap under the "Protect America Act" nobody can be against that, right? -
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 19, 2008 -> 03:23 PM) I can't think of a single toll booth here. There used to be toll bridges

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jun 12, 2008 -> 07:24 PM) Well I was going to go home to Joliet tomorrow afternoon for Father's day weekend, but I'm not sure what the exact detour is. I have a court date for a speeding ticket Monday Morning in Moline, but I'm not sure if I have to go. http://www.kcci.com/weather/16585101/detail.html I can't drive to Dubuque for this. The original route was to go up I-380 before Iowa City, to US30, then south on US 38 to get back on I-80? Is that closed now? http://www.kcci.com/weather/16585101/detail.html You can just take 30 west through Clinton at the border to Rock Falls... There you can pick up 88. That'll be quicker than bothering to go all the way up and down on and off 80

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Jun 9, 2008 -> 03:44 PM) Man Technology sucks. First they get you to spend 600 bucks on a new widget, and then drop the price 100 bucks within 2 months. Then within roughly a year of being released, they cut the price in half and give you all the features you want, including 3g which should have been included in the first generation widgets. I'd be so f'n pissed if I were someone like my mom who just purchased a brand new 16gb widget for 500 bucks about 2 weeks ago. Luckily ATT has the 30 day trial period and she can take it back. Fixed.

While I may not have been literally banned, it appears that there have been technical measure taken to make Soxtalk inaccessible from my IP address. I've been unable to log into the site since the 29th, which just so happened to be right after I pointed out that a simple google search of the name Bureauemployee171 would turn up references and full posts excerpted from this site which the powers that be seem to be trying to hide. And to further let the users of this site know that while the admin can claim they haven't banned anyone -- that's what they'd like you to believe -- I'm mysteriously unable to access the other "Talk" sites, which I'm not a member of.

I see CHANGE YOU DESERVE (read: You'll get what I give you and like it) decided to release both his medical records and his wife's tax returns on the news graveyard of the Friday afternoon before Memorial Day.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ May 20, 2008 -> 03:18 PM) Bush "Yes Man" John Bolton tends to agree with you saying that there's a 1% difference between McCain and Obama on diplomacy. Sure he argues that that 1% difference is critical but it's going to be difficult to convince the average voter that a 1% difference in policy is a huge deal. And the common theme (the one reinforced by the media) from the 2000 presedential debates/campaign was that there wasn't much difference between Gore and Bush as the two desperately dove towards the center. I don't think the difference is difficult to see, no matter how downplayed it may be by anyone, let alone a YESman like Bolton.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 15, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) Anyone know the fastest pitcher to 10 wins in one season? Kalapse? He is about to be 9-0, barring an implosion. The only pitcher to win his first 10 starts of season since 1956 is Andy Hawkins in '85 Seasons started later then, so he didn't pick up 10 until the 30th of May.... I can't query anything earlier than '56, you'll have to wait for Elias with that info

QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ May 15, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) Wow, the finale was great. Very eventful. Paul Lieberstien and BJ Novak were/are writers on the show. They just made their way in front of the camera. I would bet that they have been written off so that they can put a couple of proven writers onto the spinoff.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 14, 2008 -> 01:54 PM) Delegate Math Update... There are now 797 total superdelegates with the inclusions of Foster, Cazayoux and Childers. 2,026 is what's needed to nominate now -- one higher than yesterday after Dems won the congressional seat in MS-1. There you go moving the goalposts again

QUOTE (fathom @ May 4, 2008 -> 02:21 PM) The biggest issue with him is he's not horrible vs LHP, but we keep playing him against RHP. Nothing like knowing your personnel! ORLY? He's hit .242/.270/.348 against LHP since July 1st '06 -- 22 months of sustained suckitude.

QUOTE (lostfan @ May 5, 2008 -> 09:21 PM) "Elitist." Move over "terrorist," "liberal," "communist," "neo-conservative," etc. There's a new political curse word in town. Yep... In summary, the word "elite" tests poorly, and your "liberal media" is ever so eager to attach simple labels to candidates. The most damaging of which, "flip-flopper" anyone, stick the best. Myself, I've always the word "liberal" as good thing. I enjoyed a liberal helping of mashed potatoes last night. The same goes for "elite." I just did a search on my blog. I've used the term 23 times, every time it was used positively. I'd love a president who was truly elite, an immensely qualified, uniquely talented leader, one who also relies on guidance from other similarly "elite" people. It would be a far cry from the current situation, a president who skated into office thanks in part to his elite connections all the while playing the down home country boy thank to his ability to purchase a large part of Texas.

QUOTE (Soxpranos @ May 5, 2008 -> 09:10 PM) I like number 5 the most, good post. Sure if you ignore the fact that you're sitting Thome, who is feeble against LHP, in favor of Anderson/Owens, who only hope to be feeble against LHP on their best days.
