I recall Frank Thomas getting chased out of here by Kenny Williams for not sufficiently kissing his ass. Earned a 3.2 bWAR the following season, or 3.4 higher then Kenny’s substandard playing career. Also recall Fisk also treated shabbily on multiple occasions out of spite. The only two legitimate HOFers playing primarily for the Sox since 1980.

    Benetti was pushed out for not eating food to their liking, food they asked him to promote on the air, and also for requesting to be in person to broadcast White Sox games. The Orioles guy got suspended for saying the Orioles beat the Rays more during the 2023 season than the previous two years combined. People are petty. MLB owners and management take it next level.

    Moustakas was aided by his 47 games in Coors Field last year. I’m going to lose it if their three non catcher reserves are Moustakas, Pillar and Mendick. Mendick is somewhat defensible because of positional flexibility, but still would rather have Sosa in that role, or Romy before he was cut and claimed.

    Liam didn’t call out individual names during his comments a few weeks ago, but Lynn and Kelly were the two I thought of in addition to Keuchel. My take was Grandal didn’t give a s%*#, including when Tim literally b**** slapped him for wanting to ditch the team to start his All Star Break early. He reminded me of Dornan (Corbin Bernsen) in Major League, including his lackadaisical efforts blocking balls or just about any defensive area as a catcher beyond framing.

Plus you have Ozzie still angling for an MLB managerial job, even an interim one he felt he deserved over Ricky and Pedro (probably Tony as well, but knows better than to cross his boss).

    Plus Tony had some serious health issues so players aren’t going to rip in in that condition. There was plenty said while he was here and at least thought to be healthy in 2021, starting with the Mercedes and Liam Ghost Runner Fiascos his first plus month into the 2021 season.

    Nobody wants to be in Chicago in February. Chicago (or Detroit, Minnesota, or even New York) are solely considered to keep the publicly funded stadium shakedown racket going, similar to the garbage MLB All Star Game stadium rotation. It’s also a net money losing proposition in terms of local tax receipts vs. government funded expenses due to all the costs the NFL shifts to taxpayers. They really should just rotate between Miami, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. Perhaps New Orleans if people still want to go there, which may be a stretch in 2024.     Not sure why we don't see more trades like the NHL in MLB, taking on dead money to help with the salary cap most teams follow. Doubt Jerry would do this, but not sure why other ownership groups don't. Yankees could really use someone to take Rizzo and or Stanton's deal off their books for prospects. Teams pay the CBT on the money they pay, so it's just a matter of prospect worth for each $10M eaten. Stanton's contract as not as bad in 2026 ($19M net) and 2027 ($15M net) with Miami's payments including the entire 2028 buyout. The $32M this and next year really stings for his likely production level.

The entire Dodgers dugout immediately voted to ban his ass from the clubhouse at the first opportunity. Started a fist fight after taunting beloved Joey Votto his short time there. Arizona was glad to dump his ass at the first opportunity. I was against the Sox pursuing before any domestic violence allegations were publicly known. And the Dosgers once again did a s%*# job when it came to evaluating these widely known issues before handing him nine figures, and then crying to Manfred once they no longer wanted to pay him.     There will be likely one Super Bowl ever, and the city and state will lose nine figures net in government funds hosting it. There are few concerts which need more capacity than what current stadiums provide. There are only a dozen NFL games each year. The only reason it would have any support, especially over the White Sox, is the fact there are far more voters who support Bears laundry.

    Charlotte looks to have more depth, especially after Montgomery, Ramos and others are promoted to AAA. Colas won’t start here, but would like to see Sosa have a legitimate chance to play significant number of games as a reserve on the Sox. Also nice they don’t have to rush guys, but hopefully they won’t be clinging to prioritizing veterans when young guys are in the active roster, which by and large hasn’t been the case this decade (Vaughn and I guess Madrigal when he was not injured the primary exceptions).

    The primary two positives are the starting pitchers overall, especially Crochet, and the health and performance of Eloy and Yoan. The two disappointments have been few standout relievers stepping up, though there is still plenty of time on that front, and the large number of veterans which look to be a distraction and usurpation of playing time from mid 20s players.

    Somewhat tough decision for my 36th win, but after reflection will select a great pitcher from the 1977 South Side Hitmen, Lerrin LaGrow, who earned a 4.2 bWAR season as a reliever, and finished the season 7-3 with 25 saves over 66 games and finished with a 2.46 ERA.

    The financial crux of the article is there will be $2B of "private investment" (sources not disclosed), the rest funded via the current Hotel Tax and possibly bonds (tax funding source wasn't disclosed) issued by the Metropolitan Pier and Exposition Authority. Said they would counter Friends of the Park with "20% more open Lakefront space than exists now" in part by likely tearing down the existing Soldier Field colonnade they built around during the last boondoggle. Said they are pissed they have to contribute $11M of their $6.3B fortune to the school children of Arlington Heights after they tore down the best stadium built in Chicago in decades (Arlington Park Racetrack). Can't wait for the city and state to bar release of the money losing absurd Super Bowl agreement like the State of Tennessee is attempting.     Grifol is trying to reach Jim Boylen legendary status in just over one season. Pedro has and will likely continue to be stuck with the worst rosters in MLB. That said, only Bevington and La Russa 2.0 are in the running with Pedro in terms of worst Sox managers since I started watching in 1975.

    Strasberg won the World Series on his $175M Free Agent contract, signed in May 2016 after his final January 2016 Arbitration 3 hearing. He would have been a free agent after that season, but signed a clean new contract which did not include any arbitration seasons like a lot of these hi-bred part arb years part FA recent deals. I’m in agreement that a substantial number of long term pitching deals don’t work out. That said, teams committed to high priced pitching, be it FA or Trade or Extension are committed to winning, something missing from the equation here. This also applies for much smaller White Sox contracts in terms of highest MLB deals at the time when it came to Frank Thomas and Mark Buehrle having solid to great seasons after leaving the White Sox under relatively cheap deals. Both players could have and should have finished their careers as lifelong Chicago White Sox.
