  1. Kopech (1st-2nd), Burr (3rd), Foster (4th), Wright (5th), Ruiz (6th), Fry (7th if applicable),
  2. The Sox had two HRs coming into today on the road trip. Four today (Anderson (2), Robert, Jimenez)
  3. Crap, I started Civale on one of my playoff teams, Still will take it. Go Sox!!!
  4. But will Lightfoot set off the air raid sirens? And Robert and Eloy go back to back, and a belly to belly! 3-0 Sox!!!
  5. True, but what would the Sox record be if they played the Padres schedule? Sox are blessed to be in a division with four tanking teams with the heavy division schedule.
  6. I pursued FIRE as well, and retired after my 50th birthday in 2019. Still want to pursue volunteer opportunities and travel, but the Rona disrupted initial plans. Landed in Chicago on 3/10/20 after spending time in February and March enjoying California, Arizona and Las Vegas. Then things changed a bit. The best laid plans of mice and men.
  7. 11.3 runs down to 10 runs for the “Big Six” after the fourth game for the sextet in Detroit. Should be enough to beat Cleveland, though the way the season has gone, wouldn’t surprise me they lose with all of their starters in Game 1, and then win Game 2 playing a majority of bench players. They are highly motivated to clinch it early, not have the potential to drag it out into Friday, especially with Bieber on the mound. They can resume their beloved rest for the rest of the season starting later today.
  8. 1983, 2005, 2020 and this season were the four playoff seasons I fully emerged myself into nearly every game during the season. I boycotted the first dozen seasons after they closed Comiskey, and was busy with life in general beyond following sports in the 1990s in my 20s, and was also disgusted with the 1994 shutdown. 2008 was a very busy year for me work wise, so I didn’t get a chance to follow as closely but more so than 1993 or 2000. Weird not going to the park this year, but waiting for La Russa to go before considering purchasing tickets again.
  9. Yes, and if they didn’t have the anti LOOGY rule, there would be more usage throughout the year. Tony would have a 20 + reliever bullpen now, a pitching change for each change in hitter stance (Lefty to Righty to Lefty). Five hour games, more concession sales. Well, if Jerry were willing to foot the bill, which will come due with the Kimbrel $16m setup nonsense assuming Tony can manage to manage beyond this season.
  10. The Baltimore Orioles have entered a four way tie last night, one away from the all time record of 42 pitchers used on September 22. Brooks Kriske was claimed from the New York Yankees on September 16th, promoted three days later, and recorded 1 out in Philadelphia to strand two baserunners in the bottom of the seventh. The Orioles closed the gap to 4-3 in the Top of the 8th, but that is how the game finished. All other teams listed remain where they entered the evening. Number of Hitters used (1 + plate appearance) 53 MLB Record - Tied (Current NL Record 53 (2006 Washington Nationals) & Current AL Record 53 (1915 Philadelphia Athletics)) (50) Four way 2021 Tie: Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers Pitching Standings through September 20th (All teams 2021 except for the 2019 Seattle Mariners): (42) 2019 Seattle Mariners (All time MLB and AL record) (41) Arizona Diamondbacks & New York Mets (Co-Current NL Recordholders) & Baltimore Orioles & Tampa Bay Rays (39) Los Angeles Angels & Los Angeles Dodgers (38) Chicago Cubs & Toronto Blue Jays
  11. The Houston Astros escape a bases loaded, no one out situation to start the bottom of the 10th but get out of it after Shohei Ohtani is gunned out at the plate for the third out after pinch hitter David Fletcher flied out to Right Field. Ohtani did not slide, ran around the tag attempt, but was tagged out once he stopped past the plate. Neither team scored in the 11th. However, Houston scored four times in the 12th to win 9-5. Houston's magic number for the second seed is 5, and they 2 1/2 games behind Tampa Bay with a head to head series on tap. In other news, Boston won their seventh straight, New York their 4th straight, passing Toronto by 1/2 game for the second wild card spot after Tampa ass whupped the Blue Jays 7-1. Seattle remains 2 1/2 games back of the Yankees. San Francisco defeated San Diego once again on Southern California to extend their lead to two games over the Dodgers who lost in Colorado 10-5. Fernando Tatis Jr. flied out to Kris Bryant as the potential game winning run to end the game. Kris Bryant also knocked in three runs on a double in the top of the 1st for a 3-0 Giants lead. Atlanta remains three games ahead of Philadelphia, both winners. The Phillies travel to Atlanta for a three game series starting next Tuesday. Saint Louis extended their Wild Card lead to 4 1/2 games over idle Cincinnati after their 11th straight win.

  13. "Cardgate" comes to a painful conclusion tonight for Kevin Keirmaier. Monday - Kevin takes the Toronto pitch card lying on the ground after a play at the plate, and slides it to the TB Video coordinator. The top video of the adjacent link shows Kevin slipping the card like a drug deal. https://www.mlb.com/news/rays-blue-jays-kevin-kiermaier-pitching-card Wednesday - Down 8-1, Ryan Borucki hit Keirmaier on a pitch set up for down and away square in the back. Joe West ejected both him and I believe the Blue Jays' pitching coach, who was freaking out because they had to use another pitcher. They could have put any position player in as the game was over, but whatever. Someone on the Sox video staff will hand La Russa a Betamax tape of the two incidents so he can enjoy in his room after the DH tomorrow.
  14. I primarily use Beer Advocate for my beer ratings and conversation, and don't have an untappd ID, but the site gets a lot more activity in terms of bars paying to publish their tap lists. You don't need a sign in to find bars which offer a particular beer, I posted the link below to Gumballhead (just need to update your address). https://untappd.com/b/3-floyds-brewing-company-gumballhead/9954/nearby I used to buy a couple cases of FFF beer at least once a year leaving from a visit to their taproom, but haven't been back since they closed their taproom (to go still open). Still have their beers on draft when I come across, and sometimes pick up a single to try something new when it sounds interesting.
  15. I had my first one in a long time a couple of weeks ago before for a Cubs game, still excellent after all these years. Had several Oberon pours in the skybox, likely my last of the season.
  16. No, each sports book parent company (Caesars, Westgate, William Hill, etc.) has rules posted in terms of what constitutes “action”. However, for books which stipulate a minimum number of games, they wouldn’t go higher than say 160, because a game or two lost at season end is not unique, and they would forfeit too much profit by returning all bets on particular teams. In most instances, it wouldn’t matter (teams already exceeded the win count, or couldn’t reach even if they won the cancelled games). This year many sports books went with winning percentage, due to the uncertainty of future COVID cancellations, which thankfully were minimal.
  17. If you consider following White Sox baseball “wasting time” if they don’t win the WS, then it’s better to follow / do something else with your time. It’s only happened once for us, possible it doesn’t happen again. I enjoyed the regular and postseasons in 1983, 2005 and the scraps we got (60 games post owner lockout) in 2020. While it was great they finally won it all. I still would have come away very happy if they fell short that year, for the six months of excellent baseball they played, the games I watched or listened to, the great times at the park enjoying with friends and family. One of the reasons I don’t like playoff expansion, reduces the glorious 162 season to an glorified exhibition schedule.
  18. They did, James Fegan is just better at this than all the other reporters. I'd guess a 27th man callup for Game 2 and or a bullpen game.
  19. Sounds about right for the people who own and operate the NHL.
  20. Kopech will need to keep growing his hair until it's long enough to escape Tony's bullpen tower.
  21. No, the Sox and Detroit would be forced to make up that game in the event it mattered in the final standings. In other playoff news, The New York Yankees remain a 1/2 game out of the second wild card spot, after New York, Toronto and Boston all won tonight. For Boston, it's their 6th straight win. Saint Louis won and Cincinnati lost, putting the Cardinals 4 up with 10 (Cincinnati) / 12 (Saint Louis) games to go. The Cardinals have won 10 straight. The Dodgers are tied late in Colorado, San Francisco is down 4-1 in San Diego early. The Dodgers will be tied with San Francisco if they win and the Giants lose.
  22. Updates since Sunday: Former Chicago White Sox Trayce Thompson became the 50th Chicago Cub to bat this season, after being called up on September 14th. Trayce had his first at bat on September 16th, and got his first start on September 19th, hitting a home run to put the Cubs ahead 1-0 in a game they won 6-4. It was his first in the major league home run since May 3, 2018, when he hit one for the Chicago White Sox in a 6-5 win over the Minnesota Twins. Former Chicago White Sox executive and current Miami Marlins General Manager Kim Ng called up Nick Fortes on September 17th. Nick started at catcher the following day, and he also hit a home run in his first ML start in his career. Like Trayce Thompson, Nick's HR also put his club up 1-0 in a game they would win 6-5 in 10 innings. The Arizona Diamondbacks are now National League co-record holders for most pitchers used in a season, after Brandyn Sittinger (9/8) and Luis Frias (9/19) made their ML debuts. The Tampa Bay Rays also moved within one of the all time record, after Joey Krehbiel made his first ML appearance since 2018 and shut down Detroit for an inning on 9/18. The Los Angeles Angels have shot up the leaderboard, debuting six new pitchers since August 25th, with the last five also making their ML debut. 8/25 Former Chicago White Sox Jake Petricka 8/26 Elvis Peguero 8/27 Cooper Criswell 9/5 Kyle Taylor 9/8 Oliver Ortega 9/17 Jhonathan Diaz Number of Hitters used (1 + plate appearance) 53 MLB Record - Tied (Current NL Record 53 (2006 Washington Nationals) & Current AL Record 53 (1915 Philadelphia Athletics)) (50) Four way 2021 Tie: Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins, New York Mets, Los Angeles Dodgers Pitching Standings through September 20th (All teams 2021 except for the 2019 Seattle Mariners): (42) 2019 Seattle Mariners (All time MLB and AL record) (41) Arizona Diamondbacks & New York Mets (Co-Current NL Recordholders) & Tampa Bay Rays (40) Baltimore Orioles (39) Los Angeles Angels & Los Angeles Dodgers (38) Chicago Cubs & Toronto Blue Jays
  23. Wait, I was told by the media and most posters here it was mostly or all Ricky’s fault, the manager the “Executive of the Year” extended 60 games prior to being fired. Game 2 Dallas Keuchel and no Game 3 starter, Ricky’s fault. Late season lethargy? Ricky’s fault. Tony would “restore fundamentals”, have them focused, team would improve on defense, every game is Game 7, he would never be out managed. Tony was hired based on “competency”and not to “right a 35 year wrong”. 29 other teams hire AJ Hinch, or dozens of other options, over a guy who retired 10 years ago and blew a WS game because he cannot operate a phone. Based on his two year old temper tantrum after obeying tossed for ordering an Ohtani hit by pitch, it appears psychopath Tony still can’t figure out how to use a telephone.
