  1. It's a more accurate term. A player is out because they suffered an injury, they are not out because they are disabled. A disability is a long-term/permanent impairment.
  2. There is an off day Thursday, and the next two Mondays. They can get by without a fifth starter, if need be, if Lynn is out close to the minimum. They can also bring up a spot starter for a game if need be.
  3. No, they have regular full time writers assigned, not a slight against SoxTalk writers, just a matter of resources. Don’t recall a better beat reporter than James Fegan in half a century following the team.
  4. There would need to be at least criminal charges and or substantial documentation for multiple incidents for a one year suspension to survive an arbitration challenge. Not defending Bauer, just stating the process needs to also be fair/consistent, can’t just be yet another owner salary cancellation/suppression vehicle. Chapman choked his girlfriend and fired a gun 8 times in an incident and got 30 games. Sam Dyson (Full Season) and Jose Torres (100 games) are the only players to receive a suspension over 85 games, and they had multiple prior incidents and suspensions in MLB related incidents (Dyson especially). I do agree he is likely to be blackballed, now that the Astros FO has been blown up. Don’t see another organization with the stomach to take this on.
  5. Nice they have most starters in today. Expect a Sunday lineup tomorrow (Hamilton, Mendick, Zavala, Garcia, perhaps Lamb, maybe Vaughn at 2B and/or Hernandez at SS). Will be interesting who will be the second call-up behind Hamilton. Would like to see Sheets if they will play him most games vs. RHP, give him RF with Robert/Hamilton covering CF. See what he can do with regular at bats.
  6. Giolito had to go to Katz when Cooper was still here. Katz fixed Lucas, Cease, Rodon and Lopez. Don’t agree with the bullpen blame people are trying to dump on Katz. Bullpens are volatile from year to year. The Sox have six of the current nine guys under 3.50 ERA. Bummer has had bad luck, his FIP is 2.89. Kimbrel just go here, and Wright is not a ML pitcher.
  7. I thought it was sad that Frank Thomas' 1997 was the lone Top 10 season I was able to witness (too young to remember the 1972 season. I looked at the 15 other OG teams, and found only a few players have broken into a team's Top 10. Would chalk it up more to the disparity in talent then, and the more equitable / narrower range of talent between the best and worst players in the game today. Top 10 Franchise bWAR Seasons OG 16 franchises, earned in the DH Era (1973-2020): Atlanta: J. D. Drew 2004; Darrell Evans 1973; Lonnie Smith 1989. 8. Yes, I always root for the least attractive matchup to the commissioner and four letter network. If the Sox can't make it, want Tampa vs. Milwaukee or Cincinnati among the teams with +1% current odds.
  9. The Tribune is the suburban newspaper, like the Daily Herald more readers are Cub fans. The Daily News was the city paper, than the Sun-Times for a few years until Murdoch trashed it in the early 80s. That’s when we stopped getting the paper at home. The Daily Southtown was a good paper for Sox coverage. The Athletic has the best current coverage.
  10. The two primary assholes are the guy in the white 45 Jordan jersey, and his friend, a guy in a Cub blue tee-shirt and hat, and then the Fisk guy at the 2:30 mark. 0:04-0:11 (LH side): Jordan climbs up a row, Cubs blue shirt guy starts shit with a woman in a row above his. 0:18: Cubs guy reaches around the security guard, and then puts his arm around the security guard's neck. 0:21 Security guard has enough of the Cubs tee shirt guy, and shoves him to go falling into Jordan jersey guy, with someone sandwiched between the two. 0:45 Jordan jersey and Cubs guy take a selfie, an interlude in their douchebaggery. 0:49-0:53: Jordan jersey throws a beverage at a woman, his DB Cubs friend lands a punch on her arm before wiping out. 1:02: Security guard holds Cubs DB, the Jordan guy screaming at the security and pointing at others. 2:05-2:10: Shit starts again, Jordan guy runs back up a few rows, starts sucker punching a guy that you can see better in the 19 second twitter video. A few other guys including the Fisk Jersey guy (2:25 mark started brawling - He may have been Daver from WSI? ) ran away from security. The only two people I saw cuffed were I believe OG Cubs tee shirt guy and a black guy in a wife-beater shirt. Jordan jersey guy got away with everything. I hope the Sox reviewed this video, or even clearer internal video, and the main perpetrators are identified and any season tickets revoked.
  11. Cease has the best stuff on the staff, it's just a matter of him learning to use it and become a pitcher. The 2005 staff had far greater experience that the current rotation. Ozzie also let them pitch a lot further a long in games, though between the COVID shortened season and inexperience (or in Keuchel's case ineffectiveness, less is more prudent at least at this stage. Those are the two primary differences between the two staffs. They can win it this year, but they will be better suited with added experience if they have Rodon in the following 2-3 seasons. (All stats regular season - playoffs excluded, starts = starts coming into the 2005 season) 2005 Buehrle (236 2/3 IP, 139 previous year starts) Garcia (228 IP, 186 starts) Garland (221 IP, 127 starts) Contreras (204 2/3 IP, 218 starts (71 MLB starts + 147 Cuban League)) Hernandez (128 1/3 IP, 139 Starts) 2021 Giolito (154 IP, 84 starts) Cease (143 2/3 IP, 26 starts) Keuchel (136 2/3 IP, 213 starts) Lynn (135 2/3 IP, 236 starts) Rodon (114 2/3 IP, 92 starts)
  12. More lawsuits, the latest against the entire league.
  13. I really hate this series, wouldn't go for free unless I was in a skybox or scout seats away from the lowest common denominator. I believe this one is from a year or two ago.
  14. That may be a thing in 2022, but the Sox cannot count on him being healthy this season. Hamilton is hopefully a lock on the playoff roster, his speed and glove never slumps.
  15. David Wells is the only Sox I ever booed, because we suspected he was drunk/hungover when he was puking on the mound before being pulled against the Cubs in the first inning, consistent with his reputation. https://nypost.com/2020/06/23/the-unusual-pep-talk-that-pushed-drunk-david-wells-to-yankees-perfection/ Sandy Alderson is none to pleased about Javy's "unprofessional gesture". https://newyorkmets.medium.com/statement-from-mets-president-sandy-alderson-2f968039ee3b Not a smart move from someone approaching Free Agency. Meet the Mets Meet the Mets
  16. Is this near/in the section(s) the Sox are selling two beers and a seat for $25? Though these are light 4-5 percent ABV beers, between the sun, dehydration and pregaming / tailgating, things can get stupid quick.
  17. So one set of 3 playoff coin flips with multiples of a payroll equates to a better executive. Is Dayton Moore with one division championship in a decade and a half is better than Billy Beane? Is 1114-1343 .453 >> 2062-1852 .527 record with 7 Division Championships? Were Mike Rizzo and Dayton Moore better GMs than Andrew Freidman in September 2020? Is Ned Yost one of greatest managers in the history of ML Baseball? Would Ron Washington be if he won one more game in 2011? Ahead of Bobby Cox if he lost in 1995? Also, "opinion" of what?
  18. Have the Whites Sox hired a better executive during their history? Also, can you list any reasons folks should view Billy Beane as "an abject failure of a human being"?
  19. I fear Goodwin will start against most / all LH starters in October. 2021 Outfielder fWAR 1.9 Robert (40 games played) 1.2 Garcia (98) 1.1 Vaughn (113) 1.0 Engel (33) 0.7 Jimenez (27) 0.5 Hamilton (55) 0.5 Goodwin (59)
  20. After nine seasons, what makes you think Rick Hahn has any role in the hiring of a White Sox manager? Indeed, Jerry prefers recidivists.
  21. Top of the order here, time to chip away again. Stay patient, get to their bullpen.
