  1. Hopefully Tony doesn’t try to push it with Lucas and Rodon the next two days. Its 97 now, will go 100 tomorrow with heat index close to a dozen points higher. Like to see 80-90 pitches, ample use of the bullpen, get back home healthy.
  2. German Marquez is who I like best from Colorado, they got him for a great contract. Too bad for him, they have nothing else to build around. May as well burn down the mission there, send Story, Blackmon and Gray to the Dodgers, they are the only team not bothered by the absurd "luxury" tax.
  3. I believe they will target a a reserve player, not a "star", that can spell Leury and a few other positions. It will allow the team to send Mendick down, and hopefully rest Leury more. Perhaps a Garrett Hampson from Colorado, or David Bote as part of a deal with the Cubs. Don't think it's likely, but this is what I would expect if the Sox acquire a position player.
  4. Let's dedicate the win tonight to Dusty Hill.
  5. This could be the first extended COVID cancelation of games for a team since early this season.
  6. Nope, not close, even isolating at bats (since Ozzie played more full games, Billy's games played is inflated by pinch running and late inning defensive substitutions). Per 162 Games (Offensive Runs Above Average): Ozzie Guillen -25.34 vs. Billy Hamilton -12.26 Per 1,000 At Bats (Offensive Runs Above Average): Ozzie Guillen -43.71 vs. Billy Hamilton -20.95 Billy's Offensive RAA is better than 790 other major league hitters with over 3,000 plate appearances (Billy has 3,232 entering today). People throw around the "elite" word around here, but Ozzie is truly elite, the bronze medal winner in over 140 years of baseball, at offensive ineptitude. He is very fortunate to have played when Sabermetrics / Advanced Analytics was just beginning (Branch Rickey, Earl Weaver, Davey Johnson, Sandy Alderson early adopters), because no team would have played him very long today with his offensive profile.
  7. Alfredo Griffin (7,331 385th all time OBP .285) is the only other player to have been given more plate appearances (7,133 421st all time) and have reached less than Ozzie (OBP .287) in the history of baseball. Worst Offensive Runs Above Average - MLB history Tommy Corcoran (1890-1907) -333.2 Alfredo Griffin (1976-1993) -315.6 (Three time World Series Champion) Ozzie Guillen (1985-2000) -311.9
  8. Wow, first Lucas start without Collins in over 2 months (May 14th, a 6-2 loss with Grandal behind the plate). Collins: 92 2/3 IP, 110 K, 3.40 ERA, 4.23 K/BB, .683 OPS Grandal: 26 1/3 IP, 26 K, 5.13 ERA, 2.17 K/BB, .716 OPS Glad the Sox are playing a centerfielder today, though wouldn't mind a day off for Leury, and Hamilton getting a start (Engel in RF, Mendick at 2B).
  9. Better make arrangements to keep the threads going when you're out of town. Go Sox!
  10. Go me thinking about Avery Weems. Striking out a ton (13.4 per 9), giving up bombs to those who connect (1.8 HRs per 9 IPs) resulting in a 6.20 ERA. https://www.milb.com/player/avery-weems-686830 Don't think he'll ever get beyond AA. A bird in hand worth two in the bush.
  11. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/teams/467/ Regardless of what folks feel of the above linked website, it's far more accurate than most discussion points on talk radio. Bernstein has become the wind sock, his partner isn't any better. Dylan Cease $50.2M vs. Joc Pederson ($0.8M).
  12. It's going to take awhile, his agents/lawyers will fight this as long as possible. The only way he stops getting paid is if MLB hands down a domestic violence suspension. Bauer can drag this out legally for months/years and or pay off the victim seven figures, still might not be enough to lose the next year plus in salary, and reduces greatly any future payday(s). Unlike other previous incidents across sports, teams and league offices aren't joining their star athletes to circle the wagons and protect their "assets" by attacking/smearing the rape victim, as has been the playbook by sports teams/leagues for decades. Doesn't mean it won't happen, just hasn't happened yet. It's a Different World, thankfully so. Don't see the media lying down for this behavior and entitlement any longer.
  13. I saw that article, but they way they derived at their estimate is very sketchy, considering the Cubs were the primary draw and you can't just split the revenue and say they didn't lose any when the Cubs left. Hell, they still refuse to pay for two hotel rooms for Steve and Jason, something they could afford with much lower revenues / ratings. Thanks for the correction regarding the 1/3 vs. actual 1/4. Fans need to know none of the TV revenues goes toward the ballclub beyond the contract rights, same as MLB.com media payouts, many stadium and parking revenue streams and other income "off the books" of MLB.
  14. Jerry did the opposite, trade international slot money so he could save chump change on player options/buyouts, and also forgo spending on international free agent bonuses. They also spent stupid money on closers, roiders and friends of Machado who couldn't play baseball anymore. If I'm a Cubs fan, I want to eat the entire salary less the minimum, and maximize prospects for the next window.
  15. Yeah, but the 2 number is still in the bottom of baseball. Chicago would play \more than say higher ratings in Cleveland. https://www.forbes.com/sites/maurybrown/2019/10/15/2019-mlb-regional-tv-ratings-in-prime-time-remain-solid/ Do you have a link to a story regarding the "top 6-8" in revenues? I'm not sure that is accurate, even with the increases. Also, the network is 1/3 1/3 1/3 at this point. Does Jerry own 100% of the Sox share? I believe he does, vs. the MLB side where he has to split with other partners. They sure ain't moving TV revenue into the baseball corporation. It benefits JR, but the White Sox only get the contract rights, JR keeps all the TV net profits, it's a completely separate bucket.
  16. Sure, go tell yourself that. Tony called all the shots this offseason. Liam, Lynn, Eaton, Lamb. Hahn is there to do the grunt work, fill out the paperwork. Kenny there to drive Tony around town. You can't even make him a credible starter if he finishes with a weak ass 50-60 innings, which is what he's on pace for now, because this is Tony's show yesterday, today and tomorrow until he quits or passes.
  17. Tony is going to keep Kopech and Crochet in his bullpen spiderweb until he is gone.
  18. Starters pitch 5-7 innings, relievers 1-2. Failed starters are what relievers are. Kopech isn't a failed starter. Crochet should be down developing more pitches to start 2nd half of next year as well.
  19. Yes, but his career stats are more relevant in his likely final year un MLB. He’s a decent once a week emergency corner OF. That’s it at this point. Jake Lamb is more valuable.
  20. Wish you could use a DH for any hitter, could bat Cease and use the DH to hit for Hamilton in CF.
  21. Tony instructed Ethan Katz to turn on his text message machine and send the Cardinals Wainwright box score from tonight to Hahn, and to ask for Molina.
  22. Easier to pry the gun out of Charlton Heston’s hands than the checkbook out of Jerry’s.
