  1. Yep, yet many pick the Cubs. 2. Guess it's good they haven't sent Vaughn down to the minors yet. Keep the line moving.
  3. Cubs just released tickets for 100% capacity, including all three White Sox games for folks interested. https://www.mlb.com/cubs/tickets/single-game-tickets?affiliateId=tdl-Chicago_Cubs-tickets-Chicago_Cubs:_Tickets:_Chicago_Cubs_Tickets-na-x0-Desktop-Portrait
  4. Catcher, shortstop and centerfield defense as or more important than batting considerations, IMO. Collins should catch Rodon and Giolito, their performance far more important than fretting about a few at bats.
  5. Chicks dig the long ball. Tony and Mark brought the storage locker of roids to Saint Louis.
  6. Any reports of Tony taking scissors to his uniform today? Go Sox! PS - This "rush" to posting early game threads have taken its toll. Half hour before first pitch and no lineup posted. The Shame
  7. Looking good! Yermin, don't be discouraged The Man he ain't so hard to understand Yermin, if you try now I know that you can lend a helping hand Because there's good in everyone And a new day has begun You can see the morning sun if you try And I know, things will be better Oh yes they will for Yermin and the Man Yes they will for Yermin and the Man
  8. YERMINATOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Engel started rehab nine days ago. He is starting spring training from scratch at this point. Not concerned with the delay to get his timing back and make sure he’s comfortable in all three OF spots. Don’t need him slumping, trying to get up to game speed after he’s called up.
  10. He was also very young (22), in his eighth month (May 1986) in MLB. I don’t think he would have done this a few years later with more maturity under his belt.
  11. Makes sense for all key persons in White Sox operations to fully digest what they are required to do, which based on the tweets were not even spelled out by the city and state until sometime today. The Sox don’t even need over 24k seats for early weekday games at this point. 20k-21k for Memorial Day weekend games were the high point in terms of paid attendance with 60% capacity. 12K attended yesterday.
  12. Leury Garcia ranks 959th in MLB fWAR this season. He does rank ahead of 17 other players with 160 + plate appearances, including these notables. 2021 fWAR 160 + Plate Appearances: Leury Garcia 151st Marcell Ozuna 153rd Joc Pederson 155th Eugenio Suarez 160th Alec Bohm 163rd Jackie Bradley Jr. 164th Ryan Mountcastle 165th Miguel Cabrera 167th Jorge Soler 168th (and last)
  13. Cool to get my Man Soo Lee fix , the world's coolest bullpen catcher, while checking for today's lineup.
  14. Would tune alone to hear Hawk torture the Stone Pony for nine innings.
  15. Visiting in Vegas, signs say to wear masks if you are not fully vaccinated, but it’s all voluntary compliance. It appeared 80-90% of people did not wear masks in casinos, when it was likely people were vaccinated at similar rates to the national average (halfish). Imagine a similar policy here. Everyone has a vaccination available at this point (United Center vaccination site has few if any people attending the times I’ve passed it recently), don’t see large scale vaccine checkpoints and forced validation on a wide scale basis, including checking 40,000 people at the entrances. You’ll likely get a short uptick in cases based on exposure from non vaccinated and a few vaccinated people contracting, but hopefully within a range to not cause an uptick in hospitalization or sickness. The unknown factors at this point are overall natural immunity rates based on prior exposure, and the length of effectiveness in current vaccinations against known and mutating strands. Bottom line is this will be with us for years, hopefully we can live with it and not incur the massive fatalities experienced the first year.
  16. Reviewed year over year change in spin rate on baseball savant. Rates for Keuchel and Lynn actually decreased. Rodon’s rate is consistent with last year. Giolito and Cease both show significant spin rate upticks across most of their pitches. If a rate doesn’t change for a pitcher, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are not using, just that there is a possibility they have been using substances over multiple seasons. Its a sticky situation baseball finds itself in. Can credit Joe West for leading this particular crackdown.
  17. When Grandal has willingness to swing the bat at good pitches, he can be a valuable hitter. Grandal hit exclusively 2-4 last season, but Tony doesn’t use him much above the six hole (32 PA, 1 1B, 9 walks, 2 runs). There is less pressure near the bottom of the order, and pitchers won’t challenge him as much as they would in front of Moncada or others, and he is a more aggressive hitter (115 PA, 5 1B, 2 2B, 7 HR, 33 walks, 23 runs), at least in terms of his style. Maybe if becomes healthy (if still hurt) or if he can turn his BA around, Tony could consider moving him up in the order, but for now 2021 Grandal is best suited for the six hole on this team.
  18. It happened at the May 1986 game. 35 years later, I still remember clearly the incident. I wouldn’t have posted it if I didn’t. It was the final season Andy Frain was at Wrigley (I also worked at Comiskey, the Rosemont Horizon and the race tracks). https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.southsidesox.com/platform/amp/2012/4/11/2940373/ozzie-guillen-discussion-that-doesnt-involve-castro Nor does Guillen pore over his roster in an attempt to familiarize himself with personnel. "A lot of people say I’m un-f----ing-prepared," he volunteered one afternoon in his office, and did little to dispel the notion, shuffling distractedly through some papers on a fake-mahogany desk that he deemed too big for his purposes by at least seventy-five per cent. "I no like this desk," he said. "This is overrated." He required only space enough for his can of dip tobacco and his scented candle (peach cilantro, to counteract the clubhouse stench).
