If Yermin hits over .400 this season, is he the MVP?
South Side Hit Men replied to sin city sox fan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's a shame he hasn't had a chance at the ML level until Eloy's injury, though perhaps he needed the time to get to shine at this level. Still would like to see him catch once a week, adds to his value. -
So sick of Grandal back there.
-
Could be Oscar Gamble.
-
How does Texas continue pitching to Yermin? Crazy, will take it.
-
Nice to see Vaughn get on, hope he continues so he can stay in the lineup.

It’s a small sample, so nothing to worry about. There have been signs he has begun to break out of his early slump, with 7 hits in his last eight games. Thankfully he hasn’t brought it to the field where his glove work has been excellent. A much weirder anomaly is the Baez situation, where he hasn’t hit a 4 seem fastball (MLB’s #1 pitch) this season. Baez is on pace for 50 HRs, but also an insane number of Ks (over 300). Not sure if he’d be pulled / placed on the IL list at some point before reaching the latter unthinkable plateau.

An owner shouldn’t get into that level of the decision making process. Beyond changes at VP/GM, manager and perhaps a very high priced FA signing (as if), ownership should approve the budget and let qualified FO personnel run the day to day baseball operations. It’s why teams like the North Side team have been successful for their long stretch. The White Sox have given Marco Paddy a good level of autonomy, so perhaps that is one of the main reasons he remains with this organization, despite the fact restrictions like these must be frustrating at times.

Having time to reflect on my posts, you are correct. I apologize to Nick Madrigal, and wish him further success, and to you for my response to you yesterday evening. The posts after my initial analysis were wrong, no debate or defense on that point. Peace

The link lists WAR for all 30 teams. It’s simple math, though it’s appears to math eludes you. There is zero guarantee of a thing in life. However, Madrigal was touted as a plug and okay smart baseball IQ player, and he has been anything but. @RagahRagah, seriously, pot calling kettle. I literally said the jury is out on how he will ultimately fare if you read the post. However, that wasn’t good enough for the Stans. What we have through 3 months of baseball is underperformance to a career backup, and three crucial errors in Game Two that made Jerry Dybzinski look like a competent baserunner.

About as lucid and accurate as well.

It’s hard to go lower than 0% accurate, but you managed to top yourself. Three year projections, or is this Madrigal’s last season as he rides with Tony and David Eckstein into the sunset. Mendick, a backup at best, has bested Madrigal the past two seasons. https://www.fangraphs.com/players/jarred-kelenic/sa3007741/stats?position=OF#zips-3-year-projections Are you disputing the USA Today’s 22 year MLB Draft analysis? Anything to counter? Don’t give up Oak Park Ray, one decade, perhaps this one, you’ll be tall enough to enjoy the ride and perhaps have an accurate post. Pac 12 Baseball, clap, clap, clap clap clap!

It’s been very clear the past forty years. Baines 1981-1989 Thomas 1990-2005 Konerko 2006-2014 Abreu 2015-Current Anderson is also a great representative of the team. Tim or Robert would be great successors once Abreu retires, hoping new ownership will be in place so both players can stay beyond their current deals. Very possible Abreu gets one final deal for a few more years based on his current production both on the field and at bat.

More rubbish. A class can be stacked with prospects or weak, the only thing which can be factually evaluated is did a team use their pick on the best player based on players available that year. Your Kelenic post is ridiculous as well, he is only down due to the fact that they are manipulating his service clock, he is projected to be a superior player. It doesn’t take “hindsight” to realize when you have a four year window before contracts expire on your core, it’s idiotic to commit more than 1/4 of the period’s payroll on two overpriced veterans outbidding only themselves, necessitating trips to The Dollar Store the remaining three off-seasons, and or burning prospects for blue light special cheap contracts because “the money has been spent”. The “fake professionals” have led the Sox to the second worst record in MLB since Hahn was named GM. They’ve been poor at drafting the past two decades, also among the worst at external free agent acquisitions. Even Jerry’s other failed Gar Pax FO duo was able to surpass that, dare I say Madrigal sized low bar / threshold.

I understood last year, this year with the COVID outbreaks it appears prudent, but if this becomes a permanent fixture it's bogus. In terms of your last point, no-hitters/perfect games are not recognized if 9+ innings are not reached. This includes scheduled 7 inning DHs, rain shortened games, or even Andy Hawkins' no-hitter since he did not pitch 9 innings.
-
La Russa realized he made a mistake starting Mercedes at 1B without enough practice reps. Vaughn or Grandal have significant prior experience. Rather have him start at his natural position if your trying to find way to get him in the lineup. Glad he rectified it.

That rubbish is not how a competent person evaluates a draft pick. Looking at who the White Sox passed over with their pick is what is relevant, not who San Diego drafted in 2003. Picking Nick over Kelenic, the player the Sox passed over, is the pertinent information. He has some value, won't be as big a blunder as when Hemond picked Kurt Brown 5th in 1985 over Barry Bonds (6th), Schueler picked Jason Dellaero 15th over Lance Berkman (16th), or when Kenny picked Jared Mitchell 23rd over Mike Trout 25th.

Dude, nearly 7,500 posts, and you still haven't been right once. Perhaps one day your posts will "get better".
-
It's starting to get personal with his teammates, with everyone shouldering the blame and or having to work extra to bail him out. His error was a major factor in the Sox' loss to Oakland. Mercedes benched yesterday because Nick can't throw a ball 40 feet, Rodon and others having to work through extra batters because of him and Grandal, another SoxTalk darling before he was exposed. Never faces any lost playing time or consequences. If people are going to continue to make excuses for his play as though he is a five year old who will "get better", than let him wear it.
-
He had surgery because the dumb ass ran through the third base coach's stop sign and injured himself sliding into the out. Tony is committed to playing his dumbass everyday, despite the fact Mendick is a better player now, because he reminds him of his favorite lollipop guild player from decades ago. The ever growing list of Madrigal excuses for his continued stupid and sloppy fielding, throwing and baserunning is at least twice as tall as his frame. Doubt we'll see Tony bench Madrigal for "bad vibes", regardless of how many times he fucks up.

The analytics community is split as well, with a wide difference in projected Madrigal performance. Baseball Prospectus, the sleuths who touted Avery Weems, is most bullish on Madrigal. Fangraphs gives Madrigal the slight edge over the next three seasons. Keep in mind Madrigal is three years younger, and should peak in 2023-2025. Fangraphs (2020-2023) 2020 and YTD 2021 Production: Mendick fWAR 0.6 (135 PA) vs. Madrigal fWAR 0.2 (169 PA) Projected ZIPS fWAR 2021, 2022, 2023: Mendick 1.6; 1.5; 1.5 vs. Madrigal 1.7; 1.9; 2.1 Baseball Reference / Marcel (2020 - 2021) 2020 and YTD 2021 Production: Mendick bWAR 1.1 (135 PA) vs. Madrigal bWAR 0.5 (169 PA) Projected 2021: Madrigal: 347 AB .281/.347/.415 Mendick: 358 AB .246/.310/.409 Baseball Prospectus / PECOTA (2020-2021) 2020 Production: Mendick bWAR 0.4 (114 PA) vs. Madrigal WARP 0.4 (112 PA) Projected 2021: Madrigal: 2.3 WARP (481 PA) Mendick: 0.2 WARP (128 PA - or 0.8 WARP with the equivalent PAs) I wouldn't expect any power beyond legging out singles and a few gap shots, unless he sacrifices his claim to fame contact rate. Nick Madrigal's six ML Extra Base Hits (Average 91.8 MPH; 195.5 Feet): 4/19 Triple: 98.4 MPH; 279 Feet 4/18 Double: 97.8 MPH; 108 Feet 4/7 Double: 87.4 MPH; 55 Feet 9/18 Double: 77.3 MPH; 128 Feet 9/8 Double: 91.6 MPH; 252 Feet 9/8 Double: 98.1 MPH; 351 Feet

Typical idiotic garbage rant from you with no basis in fact. Harry Caray was signed in 1971, five years prior to Veeck's arrival saving the White Sox, and was kept on by Jerry Reinsdorf. Three owners. All wanted him. Very popular. Your massa Reinsdorf wanted to keep Caray after the switch to his failed PPV scheme. Harry told him to go fuck himself, and changed Chicago baseball forever, changing the fan base from 50/50 to 70/30 Cubs. Promoting Drinking? You mean the Goose Island Section? The Revolution Fan Cave? Goose Island White Sox Beer? Hope you don't watch White Sox baseball, if they aren't pimping drinking, they are pimping gambling and penis pills. You approve of recidivist criminal activity from your management. You're a sad tool Oh yeah, your criminal friend pimped beer too for Jerry Reinsdorf. GTFOH with your garbage, you sad troll.
