4/4 GT- 7:37 CT- Sox vs Halos

To act like the Sox have tons of great options in the field or hitters box is absurd. Leave him in the whole game, or sign a legitimate ML OFer to replace him. -

It’s all about the Hamilton’s, baby. Robert can’t go anywhere, even when Engel returns, with the OF the Sox have, unless they are toast come July or August and it’s another failed season. -

Much better than continued balls and walks. Cease needs to suck it up here and get through 5 to not burn the bullpen beyond the heavy use they’ve already endured, with no off day and late night travel to Seattle. -

Can Cease get through four? He already has 47 pitches entering the third. Is Kopech go 2-3 innings tonight, or not until tomorrow? -

They also have a far better manager, one with dare I say it, “recent championship postseason experience”. -

One can cover short. Currently, you have Lamb who is absolutely worthless, and Garcia covering the Sox positions (C 1B DH) the White Sox don’t have several options. 2B SS RF LF Back Up = Garcia CF = Nobody. -

Leury will be an iron man this year. Another reason I wanted the Sox to sign Yolmer and cut Lamb. -

When you have a $130M payroll, you don't make a declining 30 something catcher the richest player in club history, especially when you already have an All Star catcher. You don't offer one of the few multi-year contracts across all of baseball, to make someone the highest paid reliever when you already have Bummer and a strong bullpen. You don't cream your pants each December 1, with these ridiculous acquisitions (Parrot, Mazara, Eaton), you don't give four years (hopefully three if he doesn't vest) to an aging pitcher, known primarily for his engagement and yapping to the media. You don't waste Kopech in the bullpen, for at least 1-2 years per Dallas Keuchel. Tampa is head and shoulders above the Sox with less than half the Sox' payroll to work with. Minnesota and Cleveland have pwned the Sox during Hahn's entire tenure, despite their penny pinching ways. It's not the size of the payroll, its the pathetic assclown spending it. -

Where is Jake Lamb, another cheap and stupid Hahn acquisition? Had to sit through 10,000 fire Ricky posts, you can read through a few Hahn posts. Addressing your Vaughn comment, not the story you keep mentioning. Vaughn is another DH / 1B / C 40 on a roster chalk full of them, when Leury Garcia is the extent of your outfield and infield depth during a "multi championship window". Hamilton, Vaughn, Garcia and Eaton, who looks like he's 50 out there, manning the two corners. Not to mention Nick Trubisky instead of Jarred Kelenic. Jake Lamb? He hasn't been even decent since 2017. Billy Hamilton? WTF. Poor roster construction, plain and simple, not that it's any different from his first eight previous seasons. When is his contract done, and does it matter as long as Jerry is still breathing air? -

QFT Rick Hahn is entering his 9th season as GM. He gets credit for any nugget, avoids even a hint of blame from the media and most here. 35, 72, 62, 67, 78, 76, 73, 63. Eight seasons of win totals. Hahn's Loss totals? 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, any number above those are Ricky's, Kenny's, Ventura's, Cooper's and Jerry's fault. No Hahn ever, is to blame. -

It’s possible he bats for himself when the DH is in the NL, but there is no comparison between the two. Bumgarner .229 OBP / .535 OPS Ohtani .338 OBP / .839 OPS -

People questioned my statement regarding Tony keeping Hamilton and Lamb all season. I can see Vaughn going down when Engel returns, and playing AA or AAA. People thought he is a .800 OPS lock his rookie season straight out of A Ball, not sure that’s realistic. Under normal circumstances, he would have played AA and AAA last year, he’ll likely get his chance this season to obtain further development. -
What if Yermin Mercedes keeps hitting?
South Side Hit Men replied to VAfan's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Setting aside his six previous injuries and three DL stints in just over a full MLB season, he is also one of the worst LFers in MLB history, with a -2.0 dWAR. Carlos Lee and Dave Kingman were Gold Glove OFers in comparison, and they sucked ass. The only argument for keeping him in LF is if he can't hit in the DH role, as many hitters do have trouble adjusting to a DH role. In that instance, he should be traded as he can bring in solid value, and Abreu looks to be able to produce for at least a few more seasons. Mercedes can rake, but he isn't a better hitter than Eloy, regardless of how many posters are crowning Mercedes after two ML Games. Glad he is doing well, really can use his bat with the roster Hahn assembled, but he will come down to Earth at some point. He still can be a very good regular DH until Eloy returns. As for Vaughn, he should get a few weeks to see if he can hit at this level, but should otherwise be sent down to develop beyond A ball and save his service clock if he doesn't start raking regularly. -

I don't agree with Maddon's batting Ohtani, and buring the DH spot once he's pulled, but it will likely be the last pitcher we see batting on a regular basis in a non NL game, and next season perhaps the only batting pitcher left in MLB. Not sure the defense will improve with the assembled White Sox roster, at least until Engel returns to shore up one position (it should be RF).The best the team can hope until then is for is the lineup outslugging their opponents and hopefully not burning good to great pitching performances. -
Nationwide is on “your” side.

And a glove, I wanted two corner outfielders and Eloy at DH since I saw him in 2019, and definitely this off-season (Rosario, Pederson and Schwarber were my LF preferences, knowing they were to cheap to M. Bradley). I wanted Jackie Bradley in RF/CF (Springer deal too long/expensive at his age, the Sox already have that in spades) was also OK with Engel getting 100-120 starts after his progress. Of course was widely criticized here for offering those views, and now the Sox are going with Eaton and Vaughn / Garcia manning the corners, because cheap and stupid is the White Sox way.

Yes, two decades covering multiple organizations is rare at this point. With “Moneyball” and ownership cheapness in vogue (hire an inexpensive manager to implement the FO’s objectives), will be interesting to see if any managers in 2020 are still in the game in 2040. Mike Scioscia fell one season short of two decades with a single team. Doubt we’ll see that ever again. Jack McKeon comes to mind as well, between his longevity (attempted to “manage” Dick Allen in Oakland) in 1977, to taking over for ex White Sox manager Jeff Torborg in May 2003 and riding Josh Beckett to an improbable World Series championship over the scum laden New York Yankees. Two additional White Sox alumni represented in the post season lists, and of course Ricky Renteria who I was perhaps one of a couple on SoxTalk who actually liked him overall.

Tampa is the first to relinquish their division lead after their loss today. Baltimore claims their first hold on first place in the AL East since May 20, 2017. Houston continued their current Division Lead and became the first AL Team to go 3-0. San Diego continued their NL and Division Lead Philadelphia their NL East lead. Houston already has a positive 19 run differential, 26-7 in Oakland. Braves Sign Yolmer Sanchez, Carl Edwards Jr., Jesse Biddle To Minor League Contracts https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/04/braves-sign-yolmer-sanchez-carl-edwards-jr-jesse-biddle-to-minors-contracts.html Was hoping the Sox would sign Yolmer for his versatility over Jake Lamb, who is a waste of a roster spot. Lamb's been toast since 2017, and can only cover 3B, though I suspect Tony is keeping him around for "DH insurance" and a LH PH as well.

This could actually be a correct use of the word, assuming multiple posters engaged in a discussion. Will let multiple voices discussing this in a single poster's head slide, have a soft spot for Sybil.
