Blake Snell and Yu Darvish traded to San Diego
South Side Hit Men replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Being somewhat new to the board, the use of "we" by nearly all posters to discuss the team or front office / organization was the hardest thing for me to get used to. The term "we" should only be used in the context of fandom. -

2021 Projected fWAR shows San Diego is now 2nd in a near identical tie with Los Angeles. The White Sox are 7th, also behind the Yankees, Astros, Minnesota and the Anaheim, Orange County, somewhere near Los Angeles of Alta California Angels. https://www.mlb.com/news/padres-might-be-best-baseball-team-2021 -

I haven't seen someone move as swift or effectively as Preller since the closing scene in Godfather, and Michael had a lot of help. -

Good choice, but he is done with MLB after his three previous rejections and recent comments regarding the pathetic “leadership” exhibited by Manfred and current ownership. Theo Epstein can bring a small stake and grow it via compensation, like Jerry did, and attract enough financial interest from billionaires across the globe to adequately fund a purchase. If Theo’s future is baseball, I believe that is his next logical step. He loves living in Chicago and hopefully an opportunity will arise while he is still available. The White Sox should reclaim the historical (pre Reinsdorf) 50/50 Chicago fan interest split over time with new ownership. Hell, the Sox plan had promise until the octogenarian big timed his staff, squashing momentum and goodwill of fans sparked last season. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MkFQHScyti0 -

Well, they are short term screwed with the massive debt used for fans that won’t materialize for at least a few years. Long term the Cubs will continue to have a significant advantage over the White Sox, at least until there is a change in ownership. I clicked Steamer, here are the depth chart comparisons (Zips + Steamer) https://www.fangraphs.com/projections.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&type=fangraphsdc&team=17&lg=all&players=0 Cubs: Hendricks 2.8; Davies 1.3; Mills 1.2; Alzolay 1.2; TBD. White Sox: Giolito 3.1; Lynn 3.1; Keuchel 2.0; Kopech 1.5; Cease 1.2. -

Mills threw a no hitter and is good, Alzolay is ok. The Sox had only one more performing starter entering last year’s playoffs. Keuchel’s performance made it a single good starter. Yes, it was Ricky’s fault. fWAR 2021 Projections: Cubs: Hendricks 2.6; Mills 1.2; Alzolay 1.3; ? and ? (Perhaps low cost free agents). Sox: Giolito 2.9 ; Lynn 2.7 ; Keuchel 1.7; Kopech 1.3; Cease 1.1. I don’t see a “multi championship” rotation at this point. They still have Nick Cage who will still pwn the Sox, with the possibility they will acquire more. Sox may have one more bullet in the chamber, expecting another blue light special Eaton dud vs. a stud. -

And his friends, and his friend’s friend’s children. Jerry was elected managing partner with complete control by all minority owners, he has complete autonomy of overseeing the day to day affairs of the club. It doesn’t matter he owns less than half of the team’s ownership shares. Outside a near unanimous vote to remove him (and I’m not sure if that is even permitted outside of a lawsuit, or perhaps issues of incapacity or criminal conviction), he has complete control. -

Fisk and Belle yes, Luzinski was a solid player, though not a “elite star” caliber. Fisk was 33 when he was acquired, only panned here due his personal dedication to staying in shape into his 40s. The Sox shamefully rewarded that deduction by treating him like garbage. In 1915, the White Sox acquired Eddie Collins for $50,000 from the A’s, and Joe Jackson for two solid players and $31,500 from a more broke than today’s faux broke Cleveland team (somethings never change), and also a 4 bWAR/season RFer. Now that is how you step on the pedal during a “multi championship window”, not acquiring 1 year rentals like Lance “Chumlee” Lynn and a washed up Adam “The Situation” Eaton, and declaring victory in the AL Central. -

How does winning a horseshit division with one other team attempting to field a competitive team equate to being in a "multi-championship window"? There are only a half dozen teams actually working to field a championship team in 2021. The White Sox are a few significant moves away to be discussed among them. -

Per Cot's data, there is $4M-5M remaining if $118M is the target. It's also a $10M reduction from the 2020 payroll, before owners axed 102 games. The White Sox spent $50.2M last season, time will tell what players will ultimately be paid in 2021. 2008 ($121.2M) and 2011 ($128.7M) were the only two seasons White Sox payroll exceeded $119M. -

Yep, though he deserved to get shit canned regardless of who was GM. He was absolutely god-awful. Don't expect 2021 version to be any better. Chicago White Sox Managerial Winning Percentages / Average Finish Gene Lamont .551 / 1.8 Ozzie Guillen .524 / 2.4 Jerry Manuel .515 / 2.0 Jeff Torborg .515 / 3.7 Terry Bevington .509 / 2.3 Tony LaRussa .506 / 3.7 -
IMore stoked about having Kasper in the booth on the radio side than any Cub taunting/impact. He is a good announcer, and I'll get used to his Kermit the Frog voice. I don't watch Cubs games much, but he seemed really interesting on his interview with the Score the day he was hired. Jason joined the show and they talked about a podcast and other things. Andy was OK, but the broadcast was awkward at times last season, though understandable with the COVID / call road games, Andy's inexperience and being new as a team beyond Andy filling in for a sick Farmeo the previous season. I expect them to hit the ground running. Harry / Piersall still the gold standard, Rooney / Farmer next best, Hawk was OK with the Double D, after that not so much.

Collins is more like Avery Weens in terms of trade value than he is Meija. https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/teams/521/ Meija 3.6 + 0.3 = Collins 2.1 + Weems 1.8 -

Living within your means + Smart >>> Cheap + Greed + Avarice Can you imagine if Jerry had to compete in the AL East like Tampa? He would be wailing for 24 team playoffs, and be perfectly content waving carrots and "just missing out". -

Old: Mega Hendriks Speculation Thread
South Side Hit Men replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Based on a survey of 20 MLB GMs conducted by the four letter network, Liam Hendricks and Alex Colome were voted the Free Agents most likely to be over paid this offseason. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30572289/spend-big-lindor-bryant-get-dealt-gms-insiders-weigh-in -
Opening Day as scheduled would truly be a Christmas miracle. Hot stove MLB GM Survey: https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/30572289/spend-big-lindor-bryant-get-dealt-gms-insiders-weigh-in Two-part question: Do you think spring training will start on time, and will baseball play 162 regular-season games? Survey says: Start on time -- Yes 8, No 12. Play 162 -- Yes 10, No 10.

Merry Christmas one and all, and hope us fans get a few more players in our stockings before opening day, hopefully sometime this Spring!

I would have preferred trading for years of Musgrove over a few months of Lynn (with the pending reduction/elimination of 2021 baseball by the owners). Hope they can make a deal work, would be a very good acquisition.

With the loss of nearly 2/3 of the schedule last year due to the owners intentionally dragging out the lockout, the continued annual depression of free agent salaries and collusion, reduction in draft compensation and other losses over the past few years, not sure they are the strongest sports union at this point. Also, perhaps the MLBPA doesn't care about potential members, but they should, or at least assist in establishing a minor league players union. Would be a smart long term move to consider.
