  1. Cot’s is the only website anyone needs to evaluate payroll. https://legacy.baseballprospectus.com/compensation/cots/american-league/chicago-white-sox/ https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1QdJEFEHa6YbLrnNhI7Z3DCZwOEycKPNVVMnkI_eN8zU/htmlview
  2. I'm assuming they are already at $17M at $9M for Lynn and $8M with Eaton including the buyout. Perhaps $20M if you include a bump in manager salary for LaRussa, plus Arizona legal costs / bribes. $30M dropped of the books this year with Parrot, Herrera, Gonzalez and Mazara gone, so treading water vs. last year's $120M level (only $50M actually paid - Jerry still made money last season - open the books you lying POS), or $30M more? I guess time will tell.
  3. Contract values and projected fWAR per Fangraphs Starting RF: Joc Pederson (2.4) or Jackie Bradley (1.4) - 2/($10.0M per year) Closer: Alex Colome (0.1) 2 / $16M ($8.0M) Backup Catcher: Mike Zunino (1.1) 2 / ($5.0M) - or trade Adam Eaton for James McCann Starting LF (Eloy to DH): Kyle Schwarber (2.0) 1/ ($7.0M)
  4. Reinsdorf’s greed runs a world in need. Agreed, though Lynn, Katz and Cairo have been quality adds so far. I believe Hahn intends to add a SP and or late inning RP. A dream would also include a final OF to relegate Eaton to a fourth/fifth OFer, or shift Eloy to part/full time DH. That said, he also intended on hiring a manager with recent October managerial experience, but does not have final say in any of this beyond perhaps a Tim Beckham type decision.
  5. If Renteria slotted Eaton second on a regular basis, this board, Steve Stone and Ozzie Guillen would go apeshit, but when LaRussa does it it will be mostly crickets / shout down those who question the decision. Eloy, Abreu, Anderson, Moncada, Robert and Grandal should always occupy the top six slots in the batting order when playing.
  6. You want propaganda over honest accurate assessments and commentary? At times, sometimes key times, Grandal has the attention span of a 4 year old in a juice box soccer league. He is also not known for his game preparation or management. A few of the reasons the Sox selected McCann over Grandal to catch the rookie starters.
  7. This, beyond some type of bargain I’m more comfortable with the Sox approaching this after year end, assuming there is a year (2021 Rona 2022 CBA).
  8. Jacques Demers is functionally illiterate, but was a very successful coach (Two time Jack Adams Trophy winner and Montreal's last La Coupe Stanley) nearly three decades ago. Jacques also served as general manager in the NHL for the Tampa Bay Lightening, and later in Canada's Senate.
  9. @Vulture, I had the same assumption, but based on a more recent post, Baseball Reference is intentionally withholding factoring their pitch framing metric in their dWAR rating per their most recent update regarding the topic (March, 2018). https://www.sports-reference.com/blog/2018/03/pitch-framing-measures-added-to-baseball-reference/ Our friends at Sports Info Solutions (formerly known as Baseball Info Solutions) have provided us with a pitch framing measure back to 2011, which we have added to Baseball Reference. Before I explain any further, if you're unfamiliar with the concept of pitch framing please read Mike Fast's 2011 article on the topic and Ben Lindbergh's 2013 follow up. The stat that we have added is called Strike Zone Runs Saved. It represents the runs saved by catcher framing. In our tables, it's labeled RszC and it's available from 2011 to the present. While this statistic is a potential component of Defensive Runs Saved (and therefore WAR), please note that we have elected to not integrate this number into DRS (or WAR) at this time. We may elect to do so in the future, but for now we agree with Bill James's stance that waiting for further research is a good idea.
  10. I'm hoping for a Mark Cuban type to own the team by 2027. I don't even want to contemplate the possibility of Jerry as managing partner into his 90s, approaching 50 years of control. It's Christmas for Christ's sake, can't we end the year on a positive note. PS - I wouldn't assume or project current CBA parameters past this season (low $0.6M league minimum, six years of player control, etc.). The players need to not only protect themselves but also the integrity of the game at this point, as it's clear owners have no interest.
  11. Hello Exactly! Tim Anderson did his job in the playoffs. You know who sucked ass? Oh, Mr. Teacher. Duck Dynasty teach thyself.
  12. Not sure how anyone can determine the Sox signed the RF "they could have signed", when we are literally one week into December, with zero other RFers signed at this point, The same juncture the Sox were last year when they traded for Mazara. Again, if Eaton is a platoon player, and the White Sox sign a legitimate starting OFer, than it's just an overpay and if Eaton's world famous d-bag tendencies are checked by Tim, Jose and other "legit ballplayers", than whatever . If this is the extent of the White Sox hitting moves, it is just another Mazara band-aid, perhaps a child size butterfly band-aid. Just don't stand there touting a commitment to winning multiple championships. The Nationals have no legitimate RF, are also trying to win a World Series, know first hand his capabilities and decided it was better to pay him $1.5M to go away then commit the money the White Sox paid to acquire him. Also, don't reply he hit a meaningful WS HR. If that is the standard, then Geoff Blum should have played his final several years here and have a statute on the concourse. Ned Yost won a World Series, I don't want his dumbass here either.
  13. That's debatable. Tony has been caught twice that we know of, the question is how many times he drove drunk without being caught, or being caught and let off because he is a "legit hall of famer", "brother". I mean seriously, who smashes his car so bad against a curb it is left inoperable. Ricky's bullpen performed well throughout the season with mostly scraps and unknowns, and nearly $17M wasted on Herrera and Gonzalez including buyouts. An illustration of why you can't waste $8M on a aging 4th OFer at best like Eaton.
  14. Having a legitimate catcher who can catch 60 games, leaving Grandal to catch 100 + 30/40 1B/DH games is far more valuable than anything Eaton can or will provide. Unless Tony is going to add Molina (and Wainwright) as his next two signings as White Sox President/GM.
  15. His response will be: 1. Crickets 2. "He has paid the price and his debt to society, Tony is a man of his word and I believe him when he says he won't do that again." 3. He will blame Ricky Renteria.
  16. As long as he doesn't run into Luis Robert, Nick Madrigal or Jose Abreu, a lengthy DL stint would be awesome, and result in an upgrade in RF, from Eaton to Engel/Garcia. Scrappy, "intelligent" midget. "Adam Eaton, nobody like ju in the White Sox clubhouse." "Be a man, not like a little guy"- Ozzie Guillen. There was only one player Robin Ventura couldn't stand, Adam Eaton, because he is an absolute moron who would not listen to their instructions, including stop banging into walls when balls are 10 rows up from the field, The Nationals paid him $1.5M to leave and the Sox will also pay him $1M to leave, because he is absolute garbage both on and off the field. They wasted $8M on an at best fourth outfielder because he checks Tony's "just like me" Boxes (old scrappy tool). They will run his 4-5 HR midget ass out there, just like they ran Parrot out there, because he was the paid player, not the best player and because he's a Tony guy. They could and should have also signed one of the several superior actual legitimate starting RF options at or near the same relative cost. First order of business, hopefully in Spring Training when Tony steps down and a new manager approaches Adam Eaton.
  17. Wish him the best, White Sox $ would have been better spent on McCann resulting an actual second catcher on the team, than a fourth OFer like Adam Eaton and 120+ games of Grandal squatting behind home plate. Unless Tony plans on signing Molina to go with Wainright, Lynn, Eaton and dare I type Pujols.
  18. 1. It's now two seasons ago, and Eaton sucked worse than Mazara last year. 2. Eaton missed more games the past four years than Trey Mancini, who literally had cancer. 3. Adam Engel was better in 2020, and is a much better OFer on a go forward basis. 4. The FO made the same mistake twice, rushing out to sign a garbage RFer in 2020, signing this ass clown this year, and being without a RFer for the third straight year, because Jerry's cheap ass wouldn't pay for a legitimate RFer and/or placated Tony LaRussa's need for an jackass support animal.
  19. Jackie Bradley Jr. was my preferred option, because he would enhance the OF defense and be able to adequately cover Robert for off days or an extended injury. Joc Peterson would have been my second choice, as he is healthy and would perform well in the Sox' ballpark. The reasons I don't like Eaton beyond any toxicity he may or may not bring back is the fact he is declining in performance, is injured more than Eloy Jimenez and is a minus in the OF, and is really a platoon at best solution. If the White Sox bring another quality OF and Eaton is a fourth OF or platoon, and he isn't a DBag, than it's fine, but there are just too many ?s and drawbacks this early in the FA market. If they talked to Bradley Jr. and he wasn't interested or is pursuing something with Boston, then at least they tried. Will wait until the end of the off-season to evaluate the 26 man roster but the signings/transactions so far have been positive post LaRussa with this possible exception. If they sign Hendricks or Colome, and perhaps Quintana or Richards, and one more hitter who owns and can use a glove and play OF better than Eloy, than it would be a great off-season, IMO.
  20. I want them introduced at the same press conference, so Jose can say "Liam and me, we're going to fuck you up."
  21. Parkins talked about this on the Score, and wondered who was offered / who Texas was asking for that nixxed the deal last season, and whether Jon Daniels taking over made a difference. I wasn't very comfortable with giving up Dunning, but definitely wouldn't have given a better prospect like Kopech, Cease, Crochet or Vaughan. I feel better about the trade today having a chance to read more about Lynn and read / hear from others. I don't like the Eaton trade, hope they get more and he is just a fourth OFer or part of a platoon at most.
  22. Nick Madrigal will get major props from Tim and most likely everyone else if he kicks Adam Eaton's ass sometime in Spring Training.
  23. The press conference posted below. Rick was much, much happier than the Hanoi Hilton conference held in late October. 2:00 - 3:30: Talked about Dane Dunning, praised him as a quality player. 3:35 - 4:10 : High praise for Avery Weems and those who acquired and developed him. 4:10 - 5:35: Bruce Levine kisses Rick Hahn's ass and wastes everyone's time. 7:00: Just looking at this year, Dunning vs. Lynn. 8:00 - 9:30: Process long term through 2020, short term now. Maximize chances to win in the "present". Lynn been on the radar the past few seasons. 9:30: Like the Top 3 of Rotation, looking for Cease to step up and work with Ethan, Kopech and Lopez noted. They will still look for pitching either this Winter or next year. 10:30 - 11:30: Lynn gives you innings and playoff front end quality, price wasn't easy to pay. 12:25 - First good question, Hahn won't comment regarding Lynn contract extension. 12:50 - 14:10: COVID / Budget - Hahn says he has a sense of payroll availability, influenced by uncertainty, possible additional resources along the way. 14:20: Second good question: Hahn asked if Tony's involvement and discussions in player acquisitions. Hahn says he "feels it's the same as other managers, though Tony has more experience on the scouting side, player development and "analytics". Tony has strong opinions about what he needs, Rick says the dynamic is the same as with the other managers. 17:40 - Third good question: Hahn offered no comment on the Adam Eaton deal. Cheshire Cat smile after. 18:20 - 20:10 : Do you need a closer? It's not a must, Tony can manage a bullpen, it's an area they will continue to look at. Follow-up re: Cease, Hahn looking to see him after working with Katz. Then 2 1/2 more minutes of worthless Bruce Levine. Seriously, WTF. 24:00 - 24:30: Fourth good question - Paul Sullivan asked about the LaRussa DUI and fan reaction to it. Hahn won't talk until the legal process is exhausted and Tony has a chance to speak. Not much else from Hahn or Lynn.
  24. I loved Willie Harris, nothing but the best and hopefully he can manage in the next decade.
