I agree there should be a floor (MLB shared revenue), but there is more parity today than there was back when Americans in general actually cared about the sport. Connie Mack’s Athletics we’re basically the Yankees feeder system. Yankees dominated MLB for decades. They haven’t won since George died. The Dodgers have had the top MLB payroll most seasons after McCourt was forced out by Bud Selig. They have won a single World Series, that during the sham 2020 60 game owner lockout year, over the decade plus. The disparity is primarily the fault of letting a half dozen owners maximize profit by fielding minor league guys wearing MLB laundry, and pocketing $50M + each season for merely existing.

I was hoping Cubs solely for the fact it would make Jerry seethe to the point of pushing him and his family out of 35th and Shields. The win loss record between 2023 - 2025 does not really matter. The Sox would have lost less then 100 last year if they kept many of the players they dumped in July. Their record to close out the year caused them to lose 101. That said, the fire sale was the smart thing to do. Ditto 2024-2025. Progress should be measured by whether Getz and his team substantially improve the method to acquire and develop players, and hold players accountable, and to build a sustainable core organization over the next few years. The won loss record (90 / 95 / 100 losses) is not important the next two years. I’m approaching these games as I did in 2019.

Definitely agree the salary floor should be at minimum the amount each team gets as their TV / MLB.com deal. I would also add the amount of additional revenue sharing teams get. MLB has the RSN issue causing the greatest disparity (ownership of RSN vs. non ownership and market size) that also impact the NHL and NBA but not to the same extent. Several owners choose not spend what they could afford to and still make profit. They choose to maximize net income derived off of teams which actually try to compete and drive most of the interest in the sport. These teams basically serve as cannon fodder by choice, the Washington Generals, for fielding losing teams. Still need smart management. Jerry would have the same issues winning with Dodgers revenue, due to his front office selections (Gar Pax or Ken Hahn) and stubbornness. Tampa Bay Rays, Cleveland Guardians FO / Org (plus the Padres deceased owner or the Mets’ Cohen willing to spend) would possibly equal a dynasty. Money a big factor, but would take smart FO over dumb money (Top 5/10 revenue with bottom 5/10 FO/Org talent like the Sox and Bulls).

Sure the Yankees and Dodgers have a head start, but they've won one World Series combined since 2010, or the same as the Kansas City Royals juggernaut. I don’t follow the NBA anymore, so thanks for the explanation. If I were a Bulls fan, I wouldn’t be happy the family plans on keeping the team. Imagine if Jerry didn’t inherit Jordan. Moving Krause from the Sox to the Bulls was the one thing Jerry did right competitively as owner of either team. At least Sox fans have some hope of regime change possibly within this decade.

Wasn’t the hiring of AKME universally praised over GarPax? Part of the problem is Jerry and Paxton are still around, same as Jerry and TLR. Once Baltimore’s stadium is resolved, possibly over the next month or two, I see MLB naming two expansion cities over the next 12-18 months. Jerry isn’t going to get to move to Nashville as it will be likely one of two cities awarded an expansion franchise. I also can’t see him creating a new television network with Wirtz next year and nuking the value of that entity for some one time shakedown out of state. I also don’t see the Mayor or Governor racing to hand out hundreds of millions to a billion plus in new subsidies before their next elections. Jerry also has to live another few years which is not a certainty by any means.

I would think a player would file a grievance if they were placed on an injury status without an injury. The rule is not 90 days on active roster and teams can do whatever. It's the entire year on the MLB roster, with the ability to IL a player and keep them if they were active for 90 calendar days. It is feasible if a player is close to 90 days and has a season ending injury, the club would play short handed and delay placement on the IL until the 90 calendar day threshold is met. If a player has a season ending injury in April, they can be returned, compensation can be negotiated to keep the player without future year restrictions, or the player has to qualify (90 day active roster, MLB active or IL the entire year) during the following year to be kept without future restrictions.
