  1. Tried watching Fox on mute for two minutes, showed Bauers feet, watched Bauer shake off 8 calls in 4 seconds. Couldn't take it any further (Bauer or Fox). Game on radio, can walk to the TV if something on the radio prompts me.
  2. Yep, and or McCann. Problem is there aren't a lot of RF Free Agent options, Springer and Castellanos will likely be beyond the budget, Ozuna and Pederson are not RFers. Not sure if there are any platoon possibilities with someone in the organization.
  3. Ricky Orellano @RickyOrellano1 @stevestone why not start Geo as the fourth starter after Cease? I trust him over a guy who has zero major league experience. Geo has pitched with the nationals in the playoffs. 7:53 PM · Sep 18, 2020·Twitter for iPhone Steve Stone @stevestone 21h Replying to @RickyOrellano1 Cease will be the 4th starter. Dunning will be 3 Steve Stone @stevestone Replying to @ChiSoxHaze @SoxRideOrDie and @WhiteSoxJacob The Sox will not need a starting pitcher next season. I’d be shocked at a move to bring on a Stroman type. Biggest need is a run producing right fielder
  4. Yes, hopefully they are short term in nature. Ron was a good MLB manager, and his teams seemed to always be prepared, especially against the White Sox. Assuming he doesn't reconsider his retirement decision, his final managerial record is: Overall Record Minnesota Twins 1,068 - 1,039 .507 (Six First Place AL Central Finishes & AL 2010 Manager of the Year) Detroit Tigers 132 - 241 .354 (Highest finish third place 2018) Ron Gardenhire's Record against the Chicago White Sox Jerry Manuel 21-17 .552 (2002-2003) Ozzie Guillen 80-67 .544 (2004-2011) Robin Ventura 25-31 .446 (2012-2014) Rick Renteria 19-28 .404 (2018-2020) Overall 145-143 .503
  5. https://www.mlb.com/tigers/news/ron-gardenhire-retires-as-tigers-manager DETROIT – Ron Gardenhire on Saturday announced his retirement, effective immediately, after three seasons as the Tigers manager and a 16-year Major League managerial career. Gardenhire, 62, finishes his managerial career with 1,200 wins, which ranks 46th in MLB history. Gardenhire told general manager Al Avila in a meeting on Saturday afternoon that "he wasn't feeling well from a health perspective" and intended to retire, Avila said. Bench coach Lloyd McClendon, who has managed the Pirates and Mariners for parts of seven seasons, will manage the Tigers for the rest of the year. "The way I've been feeling since I had that bout of food poisoning in Minnesota and the stomach problems and the stress involved with this job, I told Al I'll step down right now," Gardenhire said during a news conference before Saturday's game against the Indians. "This is tough. It's a tough day for me. I didn't expect it, to be honest, when I walked in today. But I know the way I've been feeling. I don't want to feel like I'm running out on everybody, but I know I have to take care of my health."
  6. The White Sox have a chance to have two starters without a home run, if Madrigal plays 47 1/3 more innings than Mendick at 2B the rest of the season. The last time that occurred was during the White Sox Strike year of 1981 (Mike Squires & Ron LeFlore). The last non strike year two White Sox starters played a season without a home run was in 1958 (Nellie Fox & Billy Goodman). White Sox Starters without a HR in the Regular Season, with 1 (LJ) or 2 (SP) HR in the Post Season 2005 Scott Podsednik (129 Regular & 12 Post Season Games) 1993 Lance Johnson (147 / 6) White Sox Starters without a HR in the Regular and Post Season (if applicable) since 1950 Nomar Mazara 2020 (34 Games) - COVID Year Nick Madrigal 2020 (21) - COVID Year Lance Johnson 1991 (159) Ozzie Guillen 1988 (156) Julio Cruz 1986 (81) & 1985 (91) Mike Squires 1981 (92) - Strike Year Ron LeFlore 1981 (82) - Strike Year Bruce Kimm 1980 (100) Jerry Hairston 1975 (69) & 1973 (60) Luis Alvarado 1971 (99) Sandy Alomar 1968 (133) Al Weis 1966 (129) Jim McAnany 1959 (67 + 3) Nellie Fox 1958 (155); 1952 (152) & 1950 (130) - Baseball Hall of Famer Billy Goodman 1958 (116) Bob Dillinger 1951 (89)
  7. Agreed. Hell, strip clubs (Heavenly Bodies), condoms and other ads are that station's bread and butter. That said, with the social media backlash, not surprised he is gone after several strikes over the years. Levine and Bernstein, and to a lesser extent Spiegel, are lucky to be around at this point. Holmes and Boers are the only hosts I really like(d) over the years. I'll listen to White Sox associated clips online if I have the time, but their current lineup (Mornings, Bernstein and Parkins solo, the gambling guy) are brutal. I don't bother with the four letter network, well at least until next year when the Sox move there.
  8. I really like the current announcing team, TV and Radio. Liked Farmer as well (Farmer and Rooney were a great duo). Try to catch TV games to hear Jason and Stone. Will be interesting if Laurence Holmes migrates to WMVP, or they get another announcer for the games once they move there next year. I'm likely in the minority in terms of opinions on Hawk's broadcasting. I found his style to resemble the criticism noted in the first bold sentence. Over 99% of the time, a game is ultimately decided by the players, not umpires. There were no White Sox announcers more entertaining than Harry Caray and Jimmie Piersall. All four Chicago teams (Sox, Cubs, Hawks and Bulls) should revisit their greedy decision to remove all local broadcasts from free television. There are a large number of fans, me included, who do not have cable. While the percentage of population with cable or online access is higher than the ON-TV / Sportsvision days, it would still benefit the teams to have a dedicated day per week to have either a dual simulcast or just a free telecast on WGN, to gain continued exposure across the entire market. The Yankees do this on Saturday day games.
  9. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.
  10. McCuddy's or Jimbo's. Oh, you mean this millennium/century. Puffers or Schaller's. . Oh, you mean now. Skylark has a food license and remains open, though no TVs make this a post game favorite. Marz Brewing, closest to the park of my favorite options (about 1 1/2 miles west of the stadium down 35th , over the river and then south on Iron Street. Limited to outdoor seating in COVID world, also a pre/post game spot, though when things return to normal can watch all games there on a big screen. Free pinball/video games as well, and good food. A hidden gem. Lagunitas - Further from the park in Douglas Park, not a place to watch the game, but several good beers on tap. Also closed to COVID. Don't have any White Sox specific Bucktown locations, beyond the bartenders always putting on the Sox game at Goose Island Brewery when requested, reservations required due to COVID.
  11. Worked until 50 (51 now), work hard, save what you can, live within/below your means, and hope you can join me enjoying a nice September afternoon. The sad thing is in the past could put away a few heavy hitters (Thundertaker 14.6%), but can’t (and frankly shouldn’t) extend myself, especially in the afternoon. Taking a walk and possibly a quick nap to be ready for White Sox baseball at 6:10 CDT. Enjoy the weekend and stay thirsty my friends!
  12. Have been critical of Hahn in general, including worrying about 2027 having Biggie Smalls Madrigal playing video games to start the season in Schaumburg, but like the use of internal resources with the Stiever and Crotchet callups. Kudos to Hahn for recognizing the moment and preparing for possibilities, be it closing out the season and or having standbys on hand for the postseason. Props also for all of the under the radar picks and development of said pitchers such as Matt Foster.
  13. Pregaming at the Revolution Brew Pub. While I hope pregame Thunderstruck is a permanent casualty of COVID, because well, 15 years and AC/DC, Revolution’s imperial stout Thundertaker is very good. Calle, a sippy cup sweet Hazy Citrus Line pour. Thundertaker, a Barrel Aged Imperial Rye Stout. As close as I’ll get to the Revolution tap room in Comiskey Park II this season, or the Goose Island section for that matter. Go White Sox!
  14. Would be wise to hear the words of Coach Norman Dale. Let’s celebrate those who choose to commit, work and sacrifice THIS season, for pennies on the dollar. We can celebrate future teams and players, if they choose and are able to return down the road, when we cross that path. Hopefully health, mental and physical, allows Koepch to return, if he so chooses. He did ok (5.02 ERA) in the four games he appeared in.
  15. As long as they won't be playing them in the god damned Los Angeles Coliseum, sounds great to me. Have this pennant!
  16. Not a gotcha, just stating your take that Grandal somehow better defensively is not widely shared. PS - He's not better offensively this year either.
  17. SS Anderson 1B Grandal DH Abreu LF Jimenez C McCann RF Engle CF Dyson 3B Sanchez 2B Madrigal SP Stiever
  18. Money Mark @MarkMyWords35 Sep 14 Do you see any hope in the Sox being able to keep James McCann by resigning him in the offseason? Or should we consider this last stretch/playoffs as his swan song in a Sox uniform? Steve Stone @stevestone Replying to m@MarkMyWords35 There is alway a chance. He is the best catcher we have in the organization so it’s a definite maybe
  19. LH Batter Dyson the only one doing something this inning. Colome not as sharp in multi-inning appearances, let's hope he can buckle down and close it out.
  20. Nice play there. Lefty may send them down 1-2-3. Prove me wrong Dyson.
