  1. The Sox handed Texas $1.25M in international slot money to avoid paying a $500K buyout on Wellington Castillo and an $1.25M buyout to Nate Jones in 2019. Shipped over $3M away during the prior two seasons. I believe Hahn's last deal was prospects from LA for international slot money in early August. Hopefully Getz, Paddy and others can convince Jerry the fastest way to contention will be to accumulate as many prospects including International, as passible, and not limit the latter to older players defecting Cuba in their 20s.
  2. Yes, that is what I referenced. Jerry being Jerry with Lamont (and others) cost the Sox the chance of hiring Leyland. Jim knew firsthand how Jerry operated, told Jerry Hard Pass after resigning from his Pirates job dealing with a similar cheap ass owner. Went on to manage three World Series with Miami and Detroit, and made the Hall of Fame. Jim made wise decisions, stuck with situations where ownership committed to winning, or abruptly walked away leaving money on the table when the situation was not right. The White Sox job was not a good situation. Miami was a great situation and he took advantage. Jerry ordered the White Flag Trade in what would have been month four of Jim's tenure here. Hard Pass indeed.
  3. The school has a portion of $102.77 million reasons to play. Mike Norvell has $8.05M reasons to play, plus a $200,000 bonus for showing up to the Orange Bowl, because obviously over $8M per year is not nearly enough for Mike to make it day to day in Tallahassee. A Trail of Tears indeed.
  4. https://baseballhall.org/discover/contemporary-results He was the only elected person among the eight "Contemporary Era" nominees, and received 15 of 16 votes. Could have returned to manage here, but Jerry gonna Jerry. 1997 World Series Winner 2006 & 2012 American League Pennants 18th All Time in Managerial Wins (1769-1728) Three time Manager of the Year Award (1990, 1992, 2006) Lou Pinella missed by a single vote, Dave Johnson was the best person on that ballot and received less than 5 votes. WTF. Results from the Contemporary Era Voting announced today (12 of 16 required for induction): 15 Jim Leyland 11 Lou Piniella 10 Bill White < 5 Cito Gaston, Davey Johnson, Ed Montague, Hank Peters, Joe West.
  5. The prior regime decided to give a 5 foot 9 inch left fielder who can't field with no power the highest contract in White Sox history. The money has been spent, the fans aren't coming, and Jerry isn't going to throw money at this until there is a credible chance to contend, possibly in a few years if a lot of things go right, At least there is a little hope with new people brought in, because success was never ever going to happen under Hahn. The problem is Jerry wasn't honest about this in August, lying that he is trying to compete now and that hiring Getz helped eliminate any delay. It was false, he knew it was false, Getz knew it was false, but he's not going to call the guy who hired him a liar at his introductory press conference, so he just says nothing at this point but he is doing the right things (churning the roster, bringing in new people, not doing stupid s%*#). Keeping Pedro is Jerry's idea to avoid paying two managers.
  6. It's not Getz' acumen which will impact the roster the next few years as much as his budget. The previous four seasons were an abject failure, the FO was replaced and payroll is reverting to normal low $100M Sox standards for the time being until they can show they have an adequate core to invest and build around. The only way out of this hole is for the Sox to vastly improve drafting and signing quality amateurs and developing them into contributing ball players. It's going to take time, but I'm willing to give it a chance as long as they give a credible timeline and show evidence they can succeed where Hahn could not.
  7. Universities aren't the ones reaping CFB/CBB cash. The coaches, bloated athletic departments, the leeche CEOs running bowl games, and media outlets are the primary beneficiaries of the system, not the players drawing millions to watch on TV and near / above 100,000 at stadiums. For the dozen plus lower tier bowls held solely for mid December ESPN programing purposes (The Ball Park Franks Suck My Weiner Bowl), participating universities have to buy tens of thousands of tickets nobody wants funded out of student activity fees. Only 1/3 of the bowls actually generate revenue and nearly 100% of it is captured among the "Power 5".
  8. Yes, old mostly white people in their 40s - 80s should reap every single penny off of CFB and CBB, leaving the players playing for free beyond a largely worthless scholarship. You have posted the same post 58,000 times. Yet nearly every single year the SEC Champion b**** slaps the rest of college football and wins the National Championship. The Big Ten is Rick Hahn at the Kiddie Table. They should have been content with their Rose Bowl Circle Jerk arrangement with the PAC-10. They are primarily a basketball conference.

  10. Pedro and possibly Getz have written him off. They may be correct, but I rather give Colas a second chance than sign Merrifield, Duvall, McCutchen or some other fossil for a starting role, or keep trotting Sheets' ass out there which is the Sox current depth chart RFer. Would be fine with a defense only 5th OF who can cover all three positions well but cant hit. The Sox don't have a legitimate backup to Robert.
  11. They won the best conference in College Football, beat the two time undefeated National Champions. Washington, Florida State, Texas and Alabama. Ban Michigan for NCAA Violations. Alabama and Georgia may both be in the Top Four when Sagarin Ratings are refreshed tomorrow. http://sagarin.com/sports/cfsend.htm#Predictions_with_Totals
  12. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/greg-sankey-says-leaving-sec-out-of-college-football-playoff-is-not-the-real-world-of-college-football/ This. The other nine conferences are horseshit compared to the SEC. Have been since the start of the Bowl Coalition Era 31 years ago. Alabama should play the winner of the AFC vs. NFC game for the World Championship, and Georgia should face the winner of the four team CFB playoff for the NCAA Division 1A Championship. 13. Far over 95% of trade and FA rumors from writers and insiders are BS. People are making comparisons to older Sox signings of the past, but several of these guys were paid a lot of money and they were signed theoretically to contribute to a winning team. I'm fine with inexpensive 1 year deals for positions where there is little to no depth to get the team through 162 and perhaps mentor younger players. While the hiring process was deeply flawed, and Jerry and La Russa are still there advocating for all sorts of 20th century nonsense, I'm giving Getz some time to communicate a plan, see if it's worthwhile and credible, and then see what he does to advance those aims. He has done a good job purging older players and sketch personnel through this stage, including declining options. 14. Mike North with the play by play, Clayton Bigsby adds color commentary.
  15. Bally's impacted the net worth of Detroit and Minnesota in preceding the 2023 season., but not 2022 net income. Payroll and a slight edge with the two non revenue spending teams (Chicago and Detroit) in TV revenue are really the only significant differences across the Forbes reported numbers. I wonder what MLB Revenue Sharing estimates for Cleveland, Kansas City and Minnesota are included, as I'd expect their "additional" revenue to reflect that, but it's the same across all five teams. A $53M operating loss is 2.5% of White Sox value, or less than half of what a typical 5% money market pays today. All known Forbes amounts listed, Forbes Reported 2022 American League Central Financials $2.05B #15 Chicago White Sox 7% Debt/Equity $276M Revenue ($90M MLB + $73M Gate + $60M TV + $53M Additional) $329M Expense ($213M Players + $116M Everything Else) $53M Operating Loss $1.45B #21 Detroit Tigers 12% Debt/Equity $260M Revenue ($90M MLB + $49M Gate + $60M TV + $61M Additional) $286M Expense ($158M Players + $128M Everything Else) $26M Operating Loss $1.39B #22 Minnesota Twins 20% Debt/Equity $267M Revenue ($90M MLB + $68M Gate + $42M TV + $67M Additional) $294M Expense ($172M Players + $122M Everything Else) $27M Operating Loss $1.30B #25 Cleveland Guardians 8% Debt/Equity $268M Revenue ($90M MLB + $57M Gate + $55M TV + $65M Additional) $228M Expense ($91M Players + $137M Everything Else) $40M Operating Income $1.20B #27 Kansas City Royals 23% Debt/Equity $260M Revenue ($90M MLB + $54M Gate + $45M TV + $71M Additional) $227M Expense ($112M Players + $115M Everything Else) $33M Operating Income
  16. Bobby Bonilla was the lone White Sox Rule 5 selection over the past 50 years who earned a positive bWAR with the White Sox.
  17. Forbes estimates are the best the public can rely on from year to year. They reported a $53.4M loss for the Sox. Teams with a Forbes reported 2022 Loss: $139M New York Mets $53M Chicago White Sox $53M San Diego Padres $34M Toronto Blue Jays $27M Minnesota Twins $27M Detroit Tigers $10M Cincinnati Reds $9M Colorado Rockies $4M Philadelphia Phillies $1M Miami Marlins Jerry personally earns much more than his general partners due to the fact he is paid his ownership share of net income for the White Sox, but Jerry receives the entire share of what CSN earns on behalf of the White Sox (roughly 1/4, since he gets 25% of CSN net income for both the Sox and Bulls). What the Sox receive is on the low end of revenue per viewers as reported by Forbes ($60M based on 58,000 average viewers) though there are other factors involved including demographics, the timing of the contracts and how teams are performing in any given season. 2022: Teams with $50M-$70M in fees Arizona $68M / 21k viewers Baltimore $61M / 29k Chicago White Sox $60M / 58k Cleveland $55M / 59k Colorado $57M / 15k Detroit $60M / 47k Oakland $53M / 12k Pittsburgh $61M / 28k Saint Louis $59M / 91k Tampa Bay $56M / 52k Washington D. C. $61M / 21k 2022: Teams with 50k - 70k viewers Boston $97M / Viewers 68k Chicago Cubs $99M / 57k Chicago White Sox $60M / 58k Cleveland $55M / 59k San Diego $47M / 51k San Francisco $92M / 64k Seattle $100M / 68k Tampa Bay $56M / 52k The final factor is the fact that current positive or negative performance impacts future revenues. The fact that Jerry Hahn & Tony royally screwed up their “multi-championship competitive window” really impacted 2022 and as we will see in the Spring 2023 and beyond. This reversion to normal White Sox payroll ($100M - $120M post World Series) while substantially lower on an inflation adjusted basis vis a vis substantial increases in MLB shared (TV and MLB.com) and Ballpark revenue / prices over the past two decades was to be expected. The fact is the money by and large had been spent, but in typical Hahn / Jerry fashion in the worst possible way in terms of roster construction / filling team needs and failure to scout, draft and develop a solid core beyond what they received in tanking trades.
  18. Jason missed 30-35, not 40-50+. I don’t watch TV, so my question is did Stone miss a similar amount of games or perhaps more? Why is leaving for broadcasts considered worse than leaving to chill in Chicago or Arizona because Stone cannot be bothered with West Coast trips, also passing on other series which interfere with his personal plans?
  19. It was hard to recruit Free Agents when there was hype the Sox were in a multi-championship window. They only were able to get guys at the end of their career with no other offers and the Sox had to overpay. It’s even worse now that the Sox are a projected as a perennial 100 loss team over the next few years with Tanking 2.0. The same phenomenon occurs with the Bulls. Need Jerry to pass and his son to sell for any potential for change. Giolito, Flaherty and anyone else will not consider the Sox unless they are literally their only offer, including a premium to play for a team with no chance of success and no ownership willing to make corrections. DeJong has no other team interested beyond say $1M tops, which is why he signed for $2M here. Suck it up, try to do well and GTFO to greener pastures. On the other end of the spectrum, no competent team would offer $75M to Benintendi. That is why he is here. Ditto Keuchel and “Elite” Grandal.
  20. Just have a seven game season, Game 1 vs. 1AA, Division 2-3, Juco, High School, Pop Warner Game Games 2-7 Three home and away rivalry games vs. one rival team. Playoffs - 128 Team Double Elimination Tournament, all 133 Division 1A teams make it. Have a play in bracket for teams seeded 124-133 to get down to 128 teams. It will be bigger than Texas. Or CFB could restore being the last North American Team Sport where the regular season actually matters.
  21. I don't get wrapped up in all of the rumors and such, rather see final deals to comment. What I do believe is teams will get more in the offseason for guys like Cease (controllable / good contracts) than at the trade deadline. Teams mostly just ate portions or the entire contract for big names last July and didn't give up many solid prospects. This has been a trend for several years. The expanded playoffs not only put more TV money in owner pockets, but also gave them less of an incentive to "go for it" as any team with a pulse makes it. I agree take a good deal now because these low payroll teams aren't a lock to even want to spend $8.5M plus more in the final arb year, not to mention also giving up the cost controlled prospects they covet. Season ticket deposits are already in. Doubt Cease makes a big difference ticket wise anywhere unless he is part of a team's acquisition of 4-6 + quality players,
  22. Oh, there are about 30 I wouldn't care that much, but would start with these three, see what happens in Arizona and to start the year in terms of who could be useful. Foster pitched well a few years ago, the other two are longer shots in the Declan bucket. Remillard is useful in the fact he can cover infield / outfield, but you can always sign him or a guy like him later. Love Sheets gone just so he's not an option, regardless what they do with Eloy.
  23. Player (2024 Age; career MLB bWAR) Zach Remillard (30; 0.1) Gavin Sheets (28, -1.5) Declan Cronin (26, -0.4)
  24. Cease’s projected $8.5M arbitration award might very well be beyond Baltimore’s willingness to pay. They have only received $1.3B from Maryland taxpayers for Camden Yards and of course “need” even more. Each year, the team receives a meager $110M in MLB revenue sharing, $90M from national TV + mlb.com payments, $40M from Orioles and Nationals TV before their $80M and growing game day receipts. Their payroll is already at $61.7M, a gigantic record amount in this turbulent decade. Why pay $8,500,000 a year when you can hire thousands of men willing to wear Orioles laundry 162 times a year plus free Spring Training labor for $740,000?
  25. Jerry can live with that scenario. It’s someone else’s problem unless he lived into the 2040s.
