  1. Every major league gets over $100M just to send 26 humans out in laundry 162 times like Oakland did last season. That is before they sell a single ticket or television ad. Even if they sold zero ads and had zero viewers, they make a lot of money via cable / Direct TV carriage fees off of every single household that has a sports package forced to bundle CSN. The way Jerry runs the team, and with their current stadium deal and Federal anti-trust exemptions, it would be impossible to lose money. The Sox are worth over $2B simply for existing in Chicago. Jerry and his partners would be worth close to a billion $ less if they moved to Tampa 35 years ago. Per Forbes, these are the 2023 valuations and 2022 revenue for the five least valuable MLB teams plus the White Sox. https://www.forbes.com/teams/miami-marlins/?sh=76b3ab0b6a27 #30 Miami (Worth $1B, Revenue $238M, Gate Receipts $29M, Player Expense $104M) #29 Oakland (Worth $1.18B, Revenue $212B, Gate Receipts $30M, Player Expense $70M) #28 Cincinnati (Worth $1.19B, Revenue $250M, Gate Receipts $47M, Player Expense $138M) #27 Kansas City (Worth $1.2B, Revenue $260M, Gate Receipts $54M, Player Expense $112M) #26 Tampa Bay (Worth $1.25B, Revenue $248M, Gate Receipts $35M, Player Expense $119M) #15 Chicago White Sox (Worth $2.05B, Revenue $276M, Gate Receipts $73M, Player Expense $213M)
  2. I previously thought Ozzie was the most toxic broadcaster on the team, but these podcasts have flipped the script to Garfein. How does Pat Foley get shitcanned and these two still have a job?
  3. Great deals on Eloy White Sox jerseys. https://www.mlbshop.com/chicago-white-sox/eloy-jimenez-jerseys/t-14558634+a-3400968109+d-346596+z-9-2658433959
  4. If Chris Getz can draft a player finishing with one or more first place AL ROY votes, it will be the first time under 43 years of Jerry Reinsdorf. 5. SS/3B Gunner Anderson became the 14th unanimous American League Rookie of the Year winner. https://bbwaa.com/orioles-gunnar-henderson-unanimously-wins-al-jackie-robinson-rookie-of-the-year/ For the third straight season, no White Sox players received a 1st through 3rd place vote. Roland Hemond acquired two ROY players for Jerry before being dumped for Hawk Harrelson after the 1985 season. Dave Gallagher in 1988 was the last White Sox Domestic Player with one or more first place votes, and he wasn't drafted by the White Sox. Britt Burns, Ross Baumgarten, Bucky Dent and Carlos May are the four White Sox drafted and earning 1 or more first place votes as a rookie with the White Sox in team history. zero since Jerry bought the team prior to the 1981 draft. Glad they are doing things Jerry's way. 6. Smart move being patient and passing on the Sox offer. I think he'll do a great job and Houston will continue winning under him, though they will need to replace a bunch of guys and build rotation depth heading into 2024.
  7. It's $100K now ($50K refund if player returned) so it will be interesting if Getz will be allowed to dedicate nearly $1M (including the league minimum salary) toward anyone. Still would be more cost effective than signing their typical $3M-$6M plug in 2B/RF mid 30s veteran. If they had quality scouts, or perhaps Bannister / Barfield can identify a few players they can "fix", hope they take a shot on a few guys. Worth a gamble this season with zero at stake competitively.
  8. Why not Luis Robert Jr.? Not to jinx it but the current roster is the first time since the end of the 2020 playoffs I don't have a personal dislike toward anyone in the clubhouse (players/coaches). Favorite White Sox: 2024 Luis Robert Jr. (unless some unexpected acquisition or trade occurs, or Billy Hamilton returns ) 2023 Billy Hamilton 2014-2022 Jose Abreu 2013 Alex Rios 2009-2012 A. J. Pierzynski 2005-2008 Joe Crede 1998-2004 Magglio Ordonez 1996-1997 Harold Baines 1991-1995 Tim Raines 1990 Bobby Thigpen 1982-1989 Harold Baines 1976-1981 Chet Lemon 1975 Wilbur Wood
  9. Veeck understood baseball, they had a solid GM in Roland Hemond. They made solid trades and created a great team. Gossage was the one piece of the future they sacrificed, but they assessed they likely couldn’t afford to resign him after he became a free agent post 1977. In 2016, Hahn is clueless, but at least had multiple valuable pieces to trade. Today, Jerry has Tony and Getz running the show, and only have Cease to trade (trading Robert is asinine) and a couple good prospects in a sport you have 26 players.
  10. Objectively, it’s a better opportunity due to ownership (Illitch over Reinsdorf), current roster / future team expectations (Scott Harris and A. J. Hinch over Getz and Grifol), and specific to Jason his direct manager (Ryan Gustafson over Brooks Boyer). In terms of @Chicago White Sox’s request to elaborate on my Boyer comments and his ambitions to be the head person under the chairman similar to McDonough’s role with the Hawks. More has come out publicly this week about his treatment of both Jason specifically and Boyer’s dealing with the media and others in general. You can listen to Herb Lawrence’s comments starting at the 7 minute mark of the CHGO you tube clip. They discussed Benetti’s departure and how Boyer has dealt with direct employees, affiliate broadcast stations and others over the years, an the near universal disdain for Boyer within the broadcast industry. Cuda also exposed Boyer’s influence overall in the organization where he has amassed the most power and most employees at the expense of funding baseball operations. The lone analytics success in White Sox history was the uncovering of Bruce Lee’s ticket scam pre COVID lockdowns. You can also reference Boyer’s pithy statement “thanking” Jason in a self serving underhanded way. Bottom line the division between Rob Gallas’ operation and Boyer’s is night and day, both for people within the organization, people dealing with Boyer and his organization directly, and season ticket holders and fans who have watched the ST perks and Sox Fest created for general fans in 1992 disappear. I expect the fanbois and defenders to once again defend Boyer and blame everything on Jerry, because just like their boy Hahn they defended for a decade before it became unpalatable, these guys are great talents that were thwarted at every turn by Jerry and in Hahn’s case, also Kenny Williams, the only man who accomplished anything of value under Jerry in 43 years of White Sox baseball.
  11. What would be entertaining would be to mike up Jerry and Getz in the owners box and broadcast their conversations watching this shitshow they assembled, with all of this talent that they nonetheless are on record as hating. Mike Tony La Russa up there as well since apparently he’s entering his fourth season in charge.
  12. Ha, That would be one way to force Stone out immediately. Not sure why the Hawks forced Foley out. He’s likely the most popular local option in terms of bringing in someone people know and like for a few years. Would bring good short term publicity. Then being in a solid young long term team to replace Foley and Stone say for 2026, once the team is possibly better in a few years and the team can possibly sell itself. I would toss Ozzie and Garfein now. I don’t see any positives beyond bringing shame and embarrassment anytime Ozzie goes off to overshadow the team and management, based on his petty jealousy and futile angling for a managerial job.
  13. Are they blacked out in your area? I always liked their TV side when I could get the feed, but Howie Rose has always been solid on the radio side (liked the Hagin pairing the best). Sox are off TV for me, so won't miss anything, and even though I believe Jason's style is best suited for Football / Basketball / UFC, he has a great personality and I understand why most Sox fans under 50 or 60 would like him, which is why they should have kept him. It's as though they want to intentionally screw up the maximum like Fischer in Oakland. I believe Gene Honda is the only non player the Sox can credibly claim is one of the best in the business at this stage. Stone is solid as well. Still miss Nancy Faust, another Boyer casualty.
  14. Below are the players eligible for the December 2023 Rule 5 Draft per FanGraphs. I would assume they will add Veras, Eder and Mena. https://www.fangraphs.com/roster-resource/depth-charts/white-sox Catchers Ivan Gonzalez; Victor Torres; Luis Pineda Shortstop Wilbur Sanchez Outfielders Wilfred Veras, DJ Gladney, James Beard Starters Jake Eder, Cristian Mena, Matthew Thompson, Chase Solesky, Juan Carela, Manuel Volez, Andrew Dalquist, Jose Jimenez. Relivers Caleb Freeman, Andrew Perez, Adisyn Coffee, Jeremiah Burke, Kade Mechals.
  15. Wish they had a dual radio broadcast, so I could listen like I did over the years with Ernie Harwell.
  16. This is satire, but if this were real, all involved would be banned from Chicago for life, and rightly so.
  17. Nice to see Robert get recognized. Like Abreu, Thomas and others, he should be / have been a White Sox for life. Hope the current or next owner keeps him here and builds a team with a chance for a championship. 18. I used to listen to Stone segments, and a few others if they were White Sox or general MLB related, but I stopped accessing all of it and haven’t missed anything. There is enough written material out there to access, and you don’t have to deal with ads or Score douchebaggery.
  19. If you have an iPhone, click AA in the upper left hand corner and click show reader. These restrictions disappeared briefly, but have returned. This is what in was referring to a few months ago @Balta1701or @Quin I realize you don’t have to pay to register, perhaps give them an email and or log in, but most folks don’t want to deal with that to read a one off article.
  20. I was a fan of both teams until 1978, when Cub fans started giving this fourth grader s%*#, and then I only liked the Sox, Bulls, Black Hawks and Sting. Sox only team I’m hanging onto, Might get back into the Hawks after the change at the top of the OrganIzation.
  21. Konerko and Abreu were the only two that worked out for the White Sox. And this is why we can’t have nice things. PS - Jose’s I’m signing myself $50M 3 year deal (2000-2022) should have been included.
  22. It has been a regular threshold, just not lately. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders/major-league?lg=all&qual=y&ind=1&season1=1901&season=2023&team=4&type=8&month=null&pos=rf&sortcol=0&sortdir=default&pagenum=4&pageitems=30 Avisail Garcia 2017 Adam Eaton 2016 Alex Rios 2012 Jermaine Dye 2005 - 2006 Magglio Ordonez 1998 - 2003 Dave Martinez 1997 Darrin Jackson 1994 Ellis Burks 1993 Ivan Calderon 1987 Harold Baines 1982 - 1986 Richie Zisk 1977 Bill Melton 1970 Floyd Robertson 1962 - 1965 Al Smith 1959 - 1961 Jim Rivera 1954 - 1955 Sam Mele 1953 Minnie Minoso 1951 Wally Moses 1942 - 1945 Taffy Wright 1940 - 1941 Dixie Walker 1937 Evar Swanson 1933 Red Kress 1932 Smead Jolley 1930 Carl Reynolds 1929 - 1930 Alex Metzler 1928 Harry Hooper 1921, 1922, 1924 Nemo Leibold 1919 Shano Collins 1912, 1914, 1916 Ping Bodie 1912 Matty McIntyre 1911 Ed Hahn 1907 - 1908 Danny Green 1902 - 1904 Fielder Jones 1901
  23. I really miss Farmeo after the decades of great broadcasts. His long tenure with Rooney. Had a year with Stone Pony after he left the Cubs, and a couple with Chris Singleton before he moved on the ESPN. Caray & Piersall we’re great as well. Too young for the Commander, but he is one of four people I have ever asked for an autograph (I was four or five). Love Len and DJ, hope both are here a very long time. RIP Ed Farmer and Dave Wills.
