  1. Has the team indicated Chris Getz will speak later this month to the coaching changes and planned direction for the 2023-2024 offseason? IIRC, the Renteria announcement was made about this time, or 1-2 days before Bob Nightingale announced Tony La Russa would likely become the next manager.
  2. With only 4 bench spots, I would never target acquiring an everyday DH, unless they were truly an elite 4-5 + WAR type player like an Ohtani, Frank Thomas, Yordan Alverez, Edgar Martinez truly elite / HOF type of player. Would rather have a solid hitter who can also field 1 or more positions rotate in and out with your best 4-5 hitters getting rest from the field. If Getz can do just that and nothing else, it will be an improvement over Hahn., will add a few wins a year just on roster construction. Add injury & IL management to the mix for a few more wins.
  3. I posted Mr. October's two HR's yesterday in my White Sox Alumni Playoff thread. I don't understand how any Sox fan can root for the scum laden Twins, even against the Astros.
  4. I understand people not liking Houston. Glad you still like/love Abreu. I think most will be happy for Jose personally if he succeeds, while at the same time remain sad and possibly upset that he couldn't do it here, because his organization failed him. If the Sox had 26 Jose Abreus and half could pitch, White Sox fans would have many World Series memories beyond 2005.
  5. They would get far less than Jake Eder. They would never get anyone close to Kopech's ability. Jake Burger is a far superior player to Eloy, at a far superior contract. There were rumors after 2021 the Marlins were interested in Eloy and Yermin for a starting pitcher, possibly Pablo Lopez, but Hahn's team was on the floor, and he was satisfied with several DH/1B clogging up the 13 position players on his roster.
  6. Celebrated the day Richie Daley finished in dead last in the 2016 Olympic Bid. The city would have lost billions, literally would have had to declared bankruptcy by now. It has only been kept afloat by massive infusion of "COVID" funds which have come to an end.
  7. #1 2023 Postseason Priority - Jose Abreu World Series Championship & World Series MVP #2 2023 Postseason Priority - Rob Manfred DUI arrest if he doesn't have a paid driver at all times. #3 2023 Postseason Priority - If Houston doesn't make it, than the lowest TV Ratings Possible (Texas or Minnesota vs. Arizona). Come on Wegner, you're better than that. His playoff OPS has been higher than his regular season OPS each of the three seasons his team made it. It's not his fault Jerry and Hahn surrounded him with half ass to mostly garbage rosters in Chicago during his prime seasons. Jose Abreu Postseason OPS: 2020 .857 Playoffs vs. .831 MVP Regular Season 2021 .857 Playoffs vs. .824 Regular Season 2023 1.058 YTD Playoffs vs. .680 Regular Season
  8. Jerry turns 88 the first 2024 Spring Training weekend.
  9. The second place Tigers and Manager A. J. Hinch is a much more attractive landing spot for veteran Free Agents looking to play on a competitive team this offseason than coming here. I don't want any significant contracts added until they have a dozen plus solid players and they are looking to add the final touches. Hopefully there will be new ownership and FO to make quality decisions. Would be nice to shed Benintendi so a new regime has a clean slate when they take over.
  10. The White Sox have multiple provisions in their lease which impact city, county and state tax revenue. https://www.isfauthority.com/assets/management-agreement-with-all-amendments2.pdf https://www.fitchratings.com/research/us-public-finance/fitch-affirms-illinois-sports-facilities-auth-bonds-at-bb-outlook-stable-30-06-2022 The Sox and their landlord does not pay real estate tax to Cook County or the City of Chicago. The Sox are credited back up to 50% of all current and future City and County sales and entertainment taxes levied on tickets and other stadium revenues based on attendance. The 2% IHSA hotel tax levied across all of Illinois is remitted back to the IHSA, is split 50% State / 50% City of the $10M annual subsidies. This doesn't include the $15M and growing annually the ISFA must pay Jerry for stadium maintenance and capital improvements. https://www.nbcchicago.com/investigations/taxpayers-still-owe-640m-on-2002-soldier-field-renovation/2981068/ Even more egregious than the Sox deal is the fact the ISFA borrowed $398M to renovate Soldier Field, have made 20 years of bond payments and now owes $640M, paying down $15M in debt but accruing over $256M in interest over this period. And now these assholes want to move to AH. https://www.isfauthority.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/2022-ISFA-Audit-ANNUAL-REPORT-FORMAT.pdf In addition, the state transferred $20M in additional funds from the General Fund to cover the shortfall after the Governor and Mayor lock downed businesses including hotels over the past few years.
  11. Does the City get more or less the approximate $6 spent for $1 in return on the White Sox that it reportedly received from the NASCAR Debacle? NASCAR = At least $3.5M spent for $620K in return. 2024 was extended in secret with no Aldermanic input per the article below. https://www.chicagotribune.com/politics/ct-cost-of-2023-nascar-chicago-street-race-20231009-fzjifp3hlfdx7h3ldate2pe6f4-story.html

  15. A new owner can do a lot. Continued Reinsdorf involvement beyond Jerry’s tenure will be pretty much the same as now, may as well move on.
  16. Funny, NFL airs their games on free television, has 100 million Super Bowl viewers, with any regular game curbstomping the World Series. NBA surpassed MLB as well both nationally and globally, despite baseball having a much stronger head start. Funny, I also don't remember fedoras at games in the 1970s, 1980s or pre strike 1990s. Jerry had far less an influence in owner circles within the NBA, nobody would put up with his bullshit like they did during the strike and before. MLB is dying, largely because of the weak ass stewardship of the game, not the game or players who continue to entertain.
  17. God help us all if they don't sell the White Sox. 43 years and counting has been brutal enough.
  18. You keep excluding more and more people from society, via older people or people who don't have credit or apple type phones, and you keep losing fan interest over time. What, to profit off of selling your customer phone data? Pathetic. You lose a lot of money just on time alone in terms of concession sales paying a vendor or stand a $5 or $10 bill versus swiping cards and wasting an extra 20-30 seconds plus per transaction. Also, the television feed is already there with the cable TV production, it's a dual broadcast, just with Spanish announcers as well (or simulcast announcers from the cable feed for Sunday English WGN games). There is zero extra cost beyond Spanish announcers and a few people to work that feed.
  19. I dropped cable shortly after the last Larry Sanders show, so about 25 years ago. Many people are cutting it now. When sports shifted to cable, including baseball, you lower viewership now, which the owners were fine with because they were making more now short term leeching off subscription cable carriage costs from the majority of people who don't even consume the product. However, over time, this shift from widely available to a shrinking fanbase and shrinking general interest grows exponentially, which is why the World Series has lost 2/3 of it's viewership over a few decades despite the fact there are 40M more people. Abysmal to criminal oversight over the game has pressed the pedal to the medal (1994, steroids, watered down playoffs, interleague garbage which destroyed any interest in the ASG, etc.).
  20. After careful consideration, I am going with another member of the World Champion 2005 Chicago White Sox to honour my 33rd win. Aaron Rowan’s was a solid Centerfielder who put up 12.7 bWAR for the White Sox, including an incredible 5.7 season in 2004 and a 3.7 season to help the White Sox win the World Series. Jim Thome had a few good years here, but I hated the trade of Aaron Rowan’s and Gio Gonzalez real time, and will for the rest of my life and beyond.

I won the day Sunday October 8, 2023  with my lowest reputation point count for a win.

Teams Off: Lance Lynn & Joe Kelly Dodgers; Craig Kimbrel Phillies Did Not Play: James McCann Baltimore; Dane Dunning Texas Results of both American League Game 2 Marcus Semien Texas 2-5; 1 BB, 1 RBI, 1 Run. Jose Abreu Houston 0-4
  22. Nobody gives a rats ass about college basketball beyond those betting brackets. The entire regular CBB 30 plus game season is meaningless. College Football and MLB were the lone two sports where the regular season meant something, and the whore scum that run both sports ruined both. American population has increased by 55%, and all three sports cited have showed significant viewer interest over this period. The more each sport expanded their playoffs, the less people are interested. American Population: 1970 213M 2000 291M 2020 331M (Up over 55%). Despite huge population shifts, every single sport has far less people watching today than before playoffs were watered down. College Football Championship: Mythical National Championship Games were higher rated than BCS, and both higher rated than the expanded CFB Playoffs. 2023 at Historic Lows. College Basketball Championship: 1970s 25-35M 1980s 25-32M 1990s 26-34M 2000s 17-24M 2010s 16-28M 2020s 17-19M World Series: 1970s 29-44M 1980s 25-42M 1990s 20-36M 2000s 13-25M 2010s* 13-23M 2020s 10-12M Note *: 2010s single high was a single outlier because the Chicago Cubs won their first World Series in over a century. All others were under 20M average, most in the 13-14M range.
  23. All they had to do was eat a few contracts, not give up prospects. Scumbag owner claimed he is broke, and also don't expect this core to last once they have to pay them. What a corrupt pathetic sport. https://www.thescore.com/mlb/news/2696277
