  1. "Totally worth it." - Kenny Williams & Rick Hahn 8/22/23
  2. Forty teams, nineteen organizations, have reached the LCS or beyond the previous decade. Miami and Minnesota can each push the Sox down a peg this month, but both need to advance two rounds to do so. Milwaukee, Tampa Bay and Texas can win their first World Series. Colorado, San Diego and Seattle must wait 'til next year. 3. They love “Mama Kim” in Miami. Wish she was bringing in guys like that here. https://www.mlb.com/marlins/news/how-kim-ng-built-a-winning-culture-with-the-marlins
  4. It’s a shame Jerry didn’t move there in 1988, with Chicago getting an AL Expansion Team. They would have contracted it, because unlike the Rays, Jerry is incapable of hiring and retaining a solid FO who can make it work. It is really stupid to build and continue playing on the wrong side of the bay.
  5. A few declared insiders here and several on Twitters speculate on baseball ops moves. What I would find juicy are actual season ticket numbers the past three years, and the current level of 2024 deposits. They had a good jump due to government lockdown cabin fever plus the playoffs for 2022, but I suspect the non promotion / team sponsor season tickets purchased by individuals will have a similar trajectory as tv ratings, just with a year lag.
  6. If they sign Perez, I'm not wasting another second on this team until Jerry is dead and or Getz is gone. They need to get an actual catching instructor to develop catchers in the minors and majors. They don't need Grandal 2.0,
  7. Some good has come out of the past two seasons. Keep the line moving. Kenny Williams Rick Hahn Tony La Russa Wes Helms Darry Boston Frank Menechino
  8. Six clubs with an under 1.0 rating: A's (0.36), Marlins (0.75), Nationals (0.85), Rockies (0.90), Angels (0.90) and White Sox (0.99), with the apathetic Miami market the only club with a on field pulse among this group.
  9. Any FA they sign will likely be as worthless as Benintendi (0.2 2023 bWAR). It’s a shitty FA class, season tickets will take a big hit for the second consecutive year and Jerry will likely be pleased cashing the over $100M he gets each year from MLB for merely existing. I expect them to lower payroll in 2024. 2022 Payroll: $193.4M 2023 Payroll: $181.2M 2024 Payroll: TBD
  10. Dallas Keuchel (Minnesota) Johnny Cueto (Miami) and Seby Zavala (Arizona) were left off playoff rosters among the eight wild card teams. Avisail Garcia (Miami), Dylan Covey (Philadelphia) and Thyago Vieira (Milwaukee) were not activated from the IL for their respective Wild Card Series. Below are the seven former White Sox eligible to play in the Wild Card Round: Minnesota (0): None Tampa Bay (1): Jake Diekman (2022 - 2023 -1.2) Texas (2): Dane Dunning (2020 0.1); Marcus Semien (2013 - 2014 1.3) Toronto (1): Chris Bassitt (2014 0.6) Arizona (0): None. Miami (2): Jake Burger (2021 - 2023 1.7); David Robertson (2015 - 2017 2.9) Milwaukee (0): None. Philadelphia (1): Craig Kimbrel (2021 0.0)
  11. The MLBPA did not treat Trevor Bauer any differently than any other player going through the DV protocol. I do agree, however, that they did fail him and all players when they gave Manfred the right to arbitrarily decide any suspension length. They need to have a consistent suspension length if they are to retain this policy and or clear objective standards in terms of findings. An arbitrator found MLB’s suspension to be absurd and nearly reduced it by half, from 324 games to 194 games. The MLBPA also needs to negotiate a reasonable window in terms of a hearing and arbitration appeal. Manfred and the Dodgers dragged this out an unreasonable amount of time.
  12. The Athletic is owned by the New York Times. Keep that in mind before considering taking their word or giving them your money.
  13. Pretty sure Hawk would also say the Sox were near the bottom or dead last in TWTW.
  14. This was broached during the final month in game threads. The White Sox finished with a 5-24 season series record. 2023 was the inaugural season teams played all 29 other MLB teams. The Sox defeated Atlanta (2-1) and Cincinnati (2-1) in the National League, and Boston (4-2) Cleveland (8-5) and New York (4-2) in the American League. With the randomness of baseball, and inter league limited to a single series, it will be hard for a team to finish 20 or more season series under .500 in future seasons. Final 2023 Season Series Records: 22-6-1 Atlanta 21-6-2 Los Angeles N. L. 19-8-2 Tampa Bay 18-9-2 Baltimore 18-10-1 Philadelphia 17-10-2 Toronto 17-10-2 Milwaukee 16-10-3 Houston 16-10-3 Texas 15-11-3 Minnesota 15-11-3 Cincinnati 14-12-3 Miami 15-13-1 Chicago N. 15. I'm not confused about anything. I'm pointing out the fact that police investigated and found found Chapman's gun was fired 8 times, which he admitted to, but the girlfriend stopped cooperating. He got 30 days from MLB. Criminal charges were dropped in Bauer's case, not because the woman refused to cooperate but rather because there was not enough evidence to prosecute further. He got 2 years from MLB. A legitimate process would have resulted in a similar suspension term. The primary difference is the owners were fine with Chapman's contract and did not want to honor Bauer's.
  16. I hope it's a Jose Abreu vs. Jake Burger World Series. Will be pulling for Jose for what he accomplished here and likely only a couple seasons left, but would be happy if the Marlins won too, exposing MLB with another weak wild card "champion" who finished 3rd in a five team division, .522 winning percentage.
  17. .500 seasons are excluded in my analysis (winning 1 + game > .500). That said, 1922 was the only year it played a factor. The White Sox would likely only have one season, Jerry Reinsdorf post lockout / scab 1995 season, if Judge KKK Landis didn't ban the eight acquitted White Sox, which set the Sox back for nearly two generations. 1963 is the year closest in terms of what you are looking for. The precursor to the Bulls, the NBA Chicago Packers (1961-62) and Chicago Zephyrs (1962-63) moved to Baltimore the following season and were renamed the Bullets. Chicago regained a team four years later and also was the only losing sports team that year. These are the closest years after the ten seasons both the White Sox and Cubs finished over ..500, prior to the adoption of Chicago NFL, NHL and Negro Leagues teams in the 1920s, and the NBA first in the 1940s and finally staying in the 1960s. The Black Hawks are the only team not to ruin the Chicago Super High Five. Eight Years The Cubs Ruined It: 2012 (5) Bears (.625), Blackhawks (.549), Bulls (.758), White Sox (.525). Cardinals .292 1926 (5) American Giants (.704), Bears (.844), Cubs (.532), White Sox (.529). Cardinals .458 Short a TD in 1 of 2 games from finishing over .500. Three Losing Years + One .500 Season The White Sox ruined it: 1995 (5) Bears (.563), Blackhawks (.552), Bulls (.573) , Cubs (.507). White Sox .472 1924 (5) American Giants (.658), Bears (.727), Cardinals (.550), Cubs (.529). White Sox .431 1923 (5) American Giants (.619), Bears (.792), Cardinals (.667), Cubs (.539). White Sox .448 1922 (5) American Giants (.607), Bears (.750), Cardinals (.727), Cubs (.519). White Sox .500 77-77-1 Year The Chicago Zephyrs ruined it: 1963 (5) Bears (.857), Black Hawks (.579), Cubs (.506), White Sox (.580). Zephyrs .313 Note *: Bettman & Wirtz cancelled the 2004-2005 NHL Season, resulting in five Chicago teams credited with competing in 2005.
  18. Bauer has been a terrible teammate at several stops (Arizona, Cleveland, Cincinnati) before this even happened. It was clear the Dodgers wanted out of his contract once this came out. People thought I was joking about the MLB's "investigation" process, but it has been fairly consistent. If the owner/FO is happy with the player's contract, there will be no or a light suspension. If the owner/FO wants to get out of the contract (primarily for performance or financial impact), the suspension will many times be excessive. This has been the primary consistency in MLB's "investigative" process. Chapman and others had valid police reports and criminal cases and got a wrist slap by Manfred. That is how the 30 teams like it, and know DV this is one of the few areas they can get public support over the MLBPA.
  19. Well, at least Chris Getz learned something under Rick Hahn’s tutelage.

  22. 1900 was the last year at least one professional Chicago Sports Team (Baseball, Basketball, Football, Ice Hockey, Soccer) did not finish over .500. Baring an improbable over .500 Chicago Bears season, the Chicago Cubs were the only team to finish 2023 above .500. Below are the 21 years a single Chicago professional team finished over .500, with the White Sox at the top with eight seasons (8 White Sox 8; 5 Cubs/Chicago/Orphans; 4 Bears; 2 Black Hawks/Blackhawks; 1 Bulls; 1 Fire FC). 21 Seasons One Chicago Professional Sports Team finished over .500 (1901 - 2023) (Number of teams - Teams with losing records) 2023 Cubs (Bears pending conclusion of 2023 season; Blackhawks, Bulls, Fire, Sky, White Sox) 2002 Blackhawks (Bears, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox) 1999 Fire FC (Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox) 1997 Bulls (Bears, Blackhawks, Cubs, White Sox) 1987 Bears (Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs & White Sox) 1978 Black Hawks (Bears, Bulls, Cubs, Sting o, White Sox) 1960 White Sox (Bears, Black Hawks, Cubs) 1952, 1953, 1957 White Sox (Bears, Black Hawks, Cardinals, Cubs) 1945 Cubs (American Giants, Bears, Black Hawks, Cardinals, White Sox) 1941, 1942, 1944 Bears (American Giants, Black Hawks, Cardinals, Cubs, White Sox) 1916, 1917 White Sox (Cubs) 1910, 1918 Cubs (White Sox) 1903 Chicago (White Sox) 1902 White Sox (Chicago) 1901 White Sox (Orphans) 2023 Chicago Major League Team Standings - Last Completed Regular Season .512 Chicago Cubs (2023 83-79) .488 Chicago Bulls (2022-2023 40-42) .450 Chicago Sky (2023 18-22) .426 Chicago Fire FC (2022 10-15-9) - Clinched 2023 losing record .377 Chicago White Sox (2023 61-101) .317 Chicago Blackhawks (2022-2023 26-56) .176 Chicago Bears (2022 3-14) - Likely 2023 losing record Chicago Major League Teams (Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey, Soccer) over .500 by year (1876 - 2023): Chicago American Giants (1920-1935 & 1937-1948) NNL; NSL; NN2; NAL Chicago Bears (1922-2022); Chicago Staleys (1921) APFA & NFL Chicago Blackhawks (1987-2004 & 2006-2023) & Chicago Black Hawks (1927-1986) NHL Chicago Bulls (1967-2024) NBA Chicago Cardinals (1920-1959) APFA & NFL Chicago Chi-Feds (1914) & Chicago Whales (1915) FL Chicago Cougars (1973-1975) WHA Chicago Cubs (1904-2023); Chicago (1888-1889 &1902-1903); Chicago Orphans (1898-1901); Chicago Colts (1890-1897); Chicago White Stockings (1876-1887) NL & MLB Chicago Fire FC (1998-2001, 2003-2005, 2020-2023) MLS Chicago Giants (1920-1921) NNL Chicago Rockets (1946-1948) & Chicago Hornets (1949) AAFC Chicago Mustangs (1967-1968) USA & NASL Chicago Packers (1962) & Chicago Zephyrs (1963) NBA Chicago Pirates (1890) PL Chicago/Pittsburgh (1884) UA Chicago Sky (2006-2009 & 2018-2023) WNBA Chicago Stags (1947-1950) BAA & NBA Chicago Sting NASL & MISL & o = Outdoor Seasons (1975-1984) NASL & i = Indoor Seasons (1976, 1981-1986) Chicago White Sox (1901-2023) AL & MLB Year (Number of Chicago Teams) Teams with over .500 regular season seasons.
