  1. Touki Toussaint has one career appearance against Seattle, a start last season yielding a 13.50 ERA across 2 2/3 innings. Seattle is shifting to a 6 man rotation. Luis Castillo has two career starts against the Sox including one last season, with a 2.92 ERA and under 1.000 WHIP across 12 1/3 innings. The White Sox are a +150 or more underdog tonight, with money moving on Seattle since the opening line (Fan Dual Open -164 Seattle +138 Sox, Current -188 Seattle +158 Sox)
  2. Dayan Viciedo led the 2012 LF defense to the Top 10. Rick Hahn has not had a Top 10 defensive LF during his tenure. 3. Both Fangraphs and Baseball Reference indicate Benintendi is a below average left fielder this season, and having his worst season defensively in his career. Worst defensive season fWAR = 2023 (-10.5 YTD) https://www.fangraphs.com/players/andrew-benintendi/17901/stats?position=OF Worst defensive season bWAR = 2023 (-0.8 YTD) https://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/beninan01.shtml

  5. They need to be expunged, both on campus and 35th & Shields. "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." - Proverbs 16:18 KJV North Shore gonna North Shore. Go Cats! Go Blow!
  6. The Yankees, Cubs and Dodgers claiming the top three spots makes me want to puke as well. There is hope, but it's going to take time, a whole lot of precious time. It's going to take patience and time, to do it right, child. It's also going to take money, a whole lot of spending money. It;s gonna take plenty of money, to do it right, child.
  7. That would make the Chicago Cubs the "South Side Team" comparatively. 3600 North Chicago Cubs 12000 North Arlington Heights White Sox
  8. If they are on the ML roster, yes. If not, let them develop in Charlotte. They should play most games. I'm somewhat OK with a 32 year old Trayce Thompson because I don't believe they have another player in the system who can cover defensively CF for Robert, and you don't want the pitchers killed by a lack of OF defense. Also, Sheets should never play another inning in RF/LF the rest of the season or career with the Sox if he returns in 2024 beyond an emergency injury situation.
  9. Agreed, but the deadline is gone so FAs like Elvis and Grandal can no longer be flipped. Also don't have to go out and sign guys like Welington Castillo ($14.5M), Kelvin Herrera ($19M), John Jay ($4M) and Parrot ($12M) when you're not going anywhere and then claim "the money has been spent." and have perennial holes at C, 2B and RF.
  10. I want a quality guy in there in November, so they have a proper game plan for the offseason and spring training. Have time to review everything they have and determine who is an asset going forward and who should be moved. The Sox don't have someone who can do that now. It goes beyond Robert and Cease. And I understand the Burger angst, because the new person (if Ng is a candidate for EVP) should have made the call on him as well. The others were FAs. The Dodgers are the only team playing well since the deadline among Sox trade partners, and they have benefited from a soft August schedule (Oakland, Padres, Colorado) and home series vs. Milwaukee and Miami. Joe Kelly only has 11 outs with them before hitting the IL. Lance Lynn has wins against Oakland, Colorado and San Diego. August Records Los Angeles Dodgers (Joe Kelly and Lance Lynn) 17-2 Houston Astros (Kendall Graveman) 10-8 Miami Marlins (Jake Burger) 7-11 Los Angeles Angels (Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez) 5-13 New York Yankees (Keynan "Loose Lips" Middleton) 5-13
  11. To me "tanking" is productive if you are playing younger players regularly to determine whether they hold future value, and are not concerned whether this impacts wins and losses. If you're playing guys like Elvis and Grandal (if Seby ever returns) regularly, than you're not doing it right. Same as in 2017-2109 when Hahn signed several veterans, some expensive, instead of taking chances on younger players and claims of other younger players who might have made a difference in the 2020s.
  12. @Dick Allensaid down payments will be charged to people who spread their season tickets out over multiple monthly payments. Need to sell something to stem the tide of cancellations. Too bad they didn't dump Hahn before the deadline, keep Pedro through year end unless the new GM had someone in mind and available to bring in now. Primary comfort is the fact Kenny said he isn't extending after his deal (likely through 2024 like Hahn's reported deal), so he can be an "advisor" like Paxson is now during the final year and let others run the show. Will be interesting to see who they bring in from the outside. Hopeful it is a good hire and process, will wait to see how it plays out and hope for the best. They have time to do things right and have a new FO in place by November, get back to contention in 2026 with their current prospects plus acquisitions over the next two years.
  13. Yep. White Sox Supercut coming right up. Trigger warning - Yoan gets a double.
  14. I hope for everyone's sake he is telling the truth.
  15. It's a stretch to call the Pirates (or White Sox) big league level this season. Well Pittsburgh for several seasons and counting. Do give him credit for pitching well vs. a slumping Arizona team. He got hammered as expected in Philadelphia in his only other start. He is slated to face Texas at home his next start.
  16. Don't forget signing Albert Belle, not to try to win a championship, not because he wanted to bring in a player fans could cheer and back. He brought him in to spite his fellow owners, and dumped him the first chance possible after he was done making a point.
  17. Missed the game entirely, but nice to see Sosa and Colas inserted late and play well. Both should be playing 5 of 6 games, rest 1. Sox win a final series game to avoid a sweep for the fourth time this season. They have been swept seven times, have swept Kansas City and Detroit once each at home.
  18. I feel bad for the workers who can't afford not to call in sick. Yes, felt good to see Tony look well at his final press conference here. Doesn't look so well less than a year later. Jerry didn't do him a favor, doesn't really do anyone any favors flying in his orbit.
  19. Police can't pursue, no bail required, no prosecution, no consequences. It's intentional policy enacted and demanded by city, county and state officeholders.
  20. With a zinger thrown in about former White Sox Union rep Lucas Giolito. USA Today is a fitting place for Bob to "work", then again so is the White Sox for all of Jerry's cronies, and Hahn's Michigan cronies. Hope Brooks Boyer sells 0 season tickets beyond corporate sponsors forced to buy them. Insert flaccid arrow and kickbacks to Jerry.
  21. As someone who actually worked Arlington Heights Race Track and lives adjacent to the UPNW Metra line that will service it, let me tell Arlington Heights and the area around the track was a clusterfuck each year when they attempted to host the Arlington Million and “record crowds” of 25k-30k people. They had to thousands of people for miles and shuttle people for miles. I understand there would be infrastructure improvements to add road capacity, and they ask do bought the adjacent hotel and additional land. That said, I don’t see either a football or baseball stadium happening there. I pity 80,000 fans trying to go there 10 times a year, and also the residents who are staunchly opposed to spending a penny of taxpayer money on this idea. The Bears are already hemming and hawing about having to pay property tax. Must be nice to get everything free for a century if your a billionaire. As far as the Sox moving there, they would have trouble beating the Wolves attendance. There are few Sox fans in that area, and not many more from the South and West suburbs or Chicago willing to regularly make the trek there.
  22. I realize a subset of current SoxTalk posters will form a lynch mob for not selecting Jake Burger to honour #30, but I have a no brainer selection, one of my favorite players on my two favorite teams. Tim "Rock" Raines, one of the greatest leadoff hitters in MLB history. Tim played here for five years, the best five year stretch in post segregation White Sox history. So glad he came here after a great career in Montreal. He should have been a first ballot Hall of Famer. 64th highest offensive bWAR in MLB history, 72nd overall bWAR.
