Platoon only .647 DH is really, really bad. He replaces Trayce Thompson as the Whtie Sox median hitter tonight. Over: Eloy .780; Vaughn .748; Benintendi .687; Grandal .684. Under: Moncada .614; Andrus .609; Anderson .574; Colas .562.

"Fucking rubes. Brooks, make Milwaukee a premium opponent from now on, and bump parking to $40 next season." "Yes Chairman."

Brooks Boyer is scum.

Baez has an opt out after this season, is due $98M over the final four years if he declines to use it. Not sure why they would want him through 2027, even for half $49M, with Montgomery likely on track in 2025. That said, his power numbers would improve in a different ballpark, think $12M a year for a contending team would make sense if Tigers ate half and shipped him. Definitely a better option than Elvis Andrus if the Sox were in a contention window, and you shift Tim to 2B.

Have Fox on mute, radio broadcast on. Scholtens with the K, K, backwards K to start the proceedings. Very nice. @Kwill beat me by a minute, good look with your Game Thread!

William Macy played Hahn perfectly in Fargo, sans possibly an arrest when this ends.

MLB players face enormous stress, between the highly competitive industry and the fact their careers are condensed under years, not the 3-4 decades most humans work. For nearly a century of Jerry, very few quality free agents select his MLB / NBA teams. It’s nearly always a player with no other options. I suspect the talent disparity between the Sox and most other teams would grow further if there was no domestic draft, and if players had a shorter window to free agency.

Hahn spends much of his time going after twitter and media. He spends the rest of it fucking up the White Sox. -

That's fine. I'm sure Pedro has a guy. If not, Hahn has a Michigan man he can insert in the position. White Sox Baseball -
No. The NHL is a physical game played within an enclosed space, and the league has largely eliminated fighting with the instigator, third men in and other offensive minded rule changes. Teams do not have the luxury of carrying a "goon" in their active roster. Also, there is a difference in leverage in skates vs. firm ground, and NHL players have helmets and other equipment which protects the player in a fight, whereas outside of a batting helmet MLB players are more exposed to a fight injury, plus you have guys like Eloy coming close to injury just observing and milling around. With the recent rule eliminating allowed contact with the catcher, the remaining physical contact plays (HBP and what should be unintentional contact at a base) are not common and typically do not rise to the level of fighting.

He is the high leverage option, whenever that may be. May as well make Lambert the closer, can flip him if he can get 20-30 saves between now and 2024 deadline. -

Tim is back to his lifetime OPS since the ASB (.734 vs. .740 career). Hope he can finish at this pace or better, and fetch trade value this offseason or next July. -

Two White Sox in the lineup have over 31 RBIs this late in the season (plus Robert resting and Burger in Miami). Grandal & Benintendi (31) on pace for 40. https://www.mlb.com/gameday/brewers-vs-white-sox/2023/08/11/717036/preview The Sox are on pace to score 618 runs. Excluding dead ball era seasons (1900-1920) plus lockout/strike years (1981 & 2020), there have only been eight Sox teams in the modern era which scored less than 618 runs. Five of these seasons were pre DH (3 also pre 1969 mound lowering). The other three were 90 + loss bad White Sox teams. Currently Oakland (409); Kansas City (454); Detroit (455); Cleveland (463) and Miami (470) have less runs than the White Sox’ 479. White Sox low run total 162 Games (2023 618 pace) 463 1968 * 531 1967 * 566 1972 * 574 1966 * 586 1976 (64-97) 587 1980 (70-90) 598 2013 (63-99) 617 1971 * The six seasons in the pre 162 game era were all during or just after World War II, with lack of MLB talent the primary driver, which likely also led to the acceptance of integration. 154 Game Schedule (under 587 run pace) 538 1942 (World War II) 543 1944 (World War II) 553 1947 559 1948 562 1946 573 1943 (World War II) Note * - MLB lowered the pitchers mound in 1969, and the AL added the DH in 1973 as a response to league wide run suppression. -
https://www.mlb.com/amp/news/white-sox-produce-fitted-in-black-documentary.html White Sox released a short trailer (included in the link above) teasing the documentary that will air on August 24. The hat's first non-baseball mainstream appearance came in Ice Cube's famous Steady Mobbin' music video that came out in 1991. With new uniforms in place, the White Sox also welcomed star players and personalities like Frank Thomas and Bo Jackson into the fold.

He'd never say that about his Padres.

This has been more or less the story during three full "multiple championship contention window" seasons. C Grandal had a good hitting season, defense either poor or defensive catchers couldn't hit. 2B Madrigal, Cesar, Big Energy, Tiny Elvis RF Eaton, Scrubs, Sheets, Colas SP Quality until the playoffs in 2021, drop off in 2022, down to Cease and scrubs this season with Lucas traded.
