There’s no need to rebuild. They built. Question is what the Sox will do when the young players want a real free market deal instead of the unproven early deals they were willing to sign when they were desperate for cash and security. Kudos to the Sox for being able to get those done so far. It wont be that easy next time. Maybe these guys will be dealt first and the Sox pick up some Rays type deals. Preferably a lot of the pressure would be alleviated if they were better at signing international free agents. (Non Cubans lol)

Rays fans are used to the revolving door. it is uncomfortable for most other fans to consider living like that. Yet an acknowledgment has been made by most Rays fans that this is a necessity for that franchise to be doing. And you know, it is pretty smart anyway. If you can get yourself to root for the laundry instead of falling in love with players. Incidentally I have always been this way and it is pretty easy and stress free. But most fans love players and become loyal to them more than laundry half the time. People are different. But you know, a mercenary organization intent on being efficient with assets instead of sentimental can thrive pretty well as we have seen. This should be the Sox MO given the self imposed financial limits of the franchise. Something tells me the way while they have finally (FINALLY) gone all in on actual young and premium type talent like the other big time clubs, they still won’t be willing to pay up on most of it when the time comes for second contracts when they become hot property and subject to free market forces. Cool by me, get the trade machine up and running. They will never tell us that’s this is the long term plan, but a lot of fans that get sentimental about players should be ready.

You would need to explain to me why in a hypothetical situation where Burger (or someone else young the Sox had) became a competent WAR 3rd baseman, why trading Moncada for equal talent at a different position of need would be funny instead of advantageous to the team. It seems appropriate that Moncada should simply volunteer to play somewhere else in that scenario ideally. Of course you could go the other way and trade Burger to fill the hole. But at this point in time, the Sox are trying dumb things like putting Burger at second…..now that’s funny.

The blingy thing about Adolfo was the cannon he had in right field. If he lost that he lost a lot of sparkle. His power was impressive as far as upside, if not accomplishment, but that arm was the closing argument. I have not heard how that’s been going. But without it….

Just saying, to echo other comments, he has not earned the claim to 3rd base for life that has been fait accompli around here. That’s teally what the discussion is. It’s s not advocating a deal today. Rather debating Yoan Moncada’s ultimate value and fan derived status given the issues with his game. He is talked about like some 5 tool guy, but only uses about 3ish, and cannot fill other holes on the team as they crop up. That’s all.

You’re describing a limited asset. One that has less homers than our shortstop btw. I certainly would not build my team around him at third base. His career accomplishments does not dictate it. I’d mess with it in a heartbeat if I could bet a good corner outfielder for him as long as the Sox can get a WAR player at third base to replace him. If he cannot move he becomes an expenable.

Just as a general comment, Moncada being wed to 3rd base til death does he part is probably a little bit over the top. Players move around based on team needs. Or, the good ones can. No reason he doesn’t move around like Kris Bryant etc if the Sox would benefit. I don’t understand the mentality around him. If Burger ever became a legit 3rd baseman, Moncada in the outfield basically solves all our problems for example. If the guy is too fragile to be a team player, he aint that good.

Depending on how well stocked the farm is, could have been. As we know one thing, good young players are rare for the Sox, so they are probably more valuable to the Sox than a lot of other teams. Gotta get out of this mentality for the most part. Today, for Escobar, we might could do a deal because we already have good young players in the show. But the Sox better be building up their own depth so these kinds of things become less necessary. Make no mistake, we are in this position because there is a lack of depth in the organization.

Hahn: Too early to know if Sox will be buyers

They might be interesting. But the offers would be crap. Selling low is the road to perdition for a GM. -

I don’t think the Sox can trade the Kanapolis kids at all. Their values are at rock bottom. -

Yes. That’s an epic joke. Double plays will be a joke, as will his range be a joke. Another joke is how it is completely out of the realm of possibility for Moncada to switch back to second this season. There is no way in hell Moncada doesn’t play second base better than Burger does. And Burger is a first round draft choice at third base. But of course not. Play Burger at second. THIS IS INSANE. -

Perhaps. Well, if they did go Burger, the only thing that makes sense is putting Burger at third and Moncada sucking it up to play second again to close out the season. Its not like a big deal, I can’t imagine another team or players not rallying the troops and taking emergency action. For some reason everyone is scared of Moncada being to fragile for this. Laughable. -
