MLB 2020-21 off season catch all
CentralChamps21 replied to southsider2k5's topic in The Diamond Club
I like having the season start on the West Coast, only having to travel from AZ instead of from Chicago. -
I've run through this a few times. This is what I think is my best one: 24 Alijah Vera-Tucker, OT 52 Jalen Mayfield, OT 58 Ronnie Perkins, EDGE 131 Osa Odighizuwa, DT 161 Dazz Newsome, WR 205 Israel Mukuamu, CB 242 Ian Book, QB

OL/DL/DB. Shouldn't be investing big money or high round picks into anything else.
-
To me, those statements are in conflict. If you don't have enough talent to have 30 competitive teams, why on earth would you want more teams?
-
Isn't there also one near downtown SB? I think I went there before a game once. Good food.

The 1972 non-move to the AL East
CentralChamps21 replied to CentralChamps21's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I understand why they were aligned as they originally were in 1969, it made sense geographically. I'm specifically asking about 1972 when the 2nd Washington Senators moved to Texas and the Brewers were allowed to switch to the East instead of the Sox. I'm wondering if there's more to the story. -
Didn't PECOTA project the Sox to win something like 75 games in 2005?
-
Since we seem to have literally run out of worthwhile things to discuss: From the Wikipedia entry on the 1972 MLB season: "To make room for the Rangers in the American League West Division, one of the teams already in that division would have to switch to the East Division. Technically, both the Chicago White Sox and the Milwaukee Brewers were the easternmost teams in the West Division, but only one of them could move, although the Minnesota Twins lobbied to keep the Rangers in the East because it wanted both the Brewers and White Sox as division rivals. It was decided that Milwaukee, as the newer franchise, would make the move, even though the Chicago wanted to go to the East since five of the league's original franchises were in that division, and that the Cubs were in the National League East." Do any of our "more experienced" posters have any more insight on this? It seems that once local TV rights became a bigger deal in the 1980s, being in the West and playing more games in the Pacific Time Zone compared to being in the East and playing more games against the Yankees would have been a huge disadvantage. I wonder how things might have been different if the Sox had switched to the East in 1972.

I like the doubling up of games. Wouldn't mind seeing that feature continue post-COVID, at least for the teams where you play them twice at home and/or away.

This year alone, Stafford and Watson are available on the trade market. Bears don't have the cap space or the draft picks to get them. Work now to have that cap space and those picks in a couple years. Someone will be available, either an existing player or trading up in the draft.
-
This 100%. Picking up a QB that costs anything more than free agent dollars or a low round draft pick is pointless. If any of Nick Foles, Allen Robinson, Khalil Mack, Roquan Smith can bring back a premium return, make the deal. Get all the OL and DL you can get in the next two drafts, build a team that dominates the line on both sides, and then figure out QB.

2021 Super Bowl LV Chiefs v Bucs
CentralChamps21 replied to tray's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Is any team good enough to win the Super Bowl missing both starting tackles? Also, Bears should fire Nagy and hire Todd Bowles tomorrow. -
Have the White Sox "spent the money" that Rick Hahn promised?

South loop has been built up a lot over the past 15 years or so. Is there still room? -

Neither of them won a Super Bowl. -

Fun fact: The Detroit Tigers drafted Patrick Mahomes in the 37th round of the 2014 MLB Draft. Yes, that's right. The Tigers have drafted more Super Bowl winning QBs than the Lions. -

Justice would be his kids selling the team to Mark Cuban while his body is still warm. -
Dodgers sign Bauer (3/102, opt-outs, 40-45-17)

A salary cap and/or floor would have to be accompanied by sharing of local TV revenue. -
Christopher Plummer, 91, star of The Sound of Music and many others.

I'm not sure how many pages ago, but I'm pretty sure I said something similar.

Bidding war = Bears are giving up too much to get him.

Jonathan Lucroy signs minor league deal with White Sox
CentralChamps21 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I count 53 series in the season. Start times aren't set yet, but nearly every series has a day game following a night game in there, so 110 is about an upper limit I would think. -
Too busy making up and tweeting Sox rumors to do this.

While I agree with the sentiment you are trying to convey, your numbers look more extreme than they really are because you cherry picked 2011 as the highest salary year. A better comparison would be 5 year averages from 2008-12 with 2017-21. -

What good are the food guys if they can't scoop major signings like this??
