  1. Weird quirk: 14 years ago, the Bears and Colts became the first two teams with black head coaches to reach the Super Bowl. This year, the Bears and Colts became the first two teams to be #7 playoff seeds.
  2. All things being equal, I'd rather have Trubisky than Wentz, but if Trubisky won't take a 2 year deal and Wentz would, then yes, try to make him work while you try to build a better offensive line.
  3. Would that be admissible in court?
  4. 5-star recruits over the past 10 recruiting classes: Alabama 44 Georgia 34 Ohio State 26 Clemson 20 Southern Cal 19 Florida State 19 LSU 19 Texas A&M 14 === Notre Dame 5 So yeah, recruiting is a lot of it for those 3 teams, but Georgia, Florida St and LSU have each managed only 1 playoff appearance since the current format started, and Southern Cal and Texas A&M have managed none. If making the playoff was the #1 priority of recruits, none of the 5-stars would go to any SEC school other than Alabama. Notre Dame clearly isn't in the same league in talent, but they occasionally make the playoff mostly because they manage to avoid losing to shit teams, which has plagued pretty much the entire Big 12 and PAC-12, and in most years Ohio State, and as much as we want to see the 4 most talented teams battle it out, regular season performance needs to count for something or otherwise just take the Top 4 in the preseason poll.
  5. We might get an 8-8 NFC Wild Card and an 11-5 AFC team missing the playoffs. Time to eliminate the conferences. Just have 8 divisions. Seed the division winners 1-8 and the Wild Cards 9-14. Also, make point differential the first tiebreaker.
  6. We're seeing the #4 team regularly getting destroyed in the playoff, not a compelling case to allow teams 5-8 in. What I'd like to see the AAC and MWC do is schedule 11 games instead of 12, play their championship games a week early, and have a full conference crossover for the 12th game, with the conference champions matching up against each other. Would boost the schedule strength of the winner of that game.
  7. We started a new family tradition a few years ago. We watch the original Star Wars beginning at 10:02:49
  8. I know this would never happen, but my fantasy is that the Georgia runoffs split, leaving the Republicans in a 51-49 majority, then Susan Collins tells the other 50 Republicans that if they don't make her majority leader, she'll switch parties.
  9. Polling shows Perdue up by about ½ percent and Loeffler losing by about ½ percent, so I couldn't begin to predict, but I have a question for the one percent who are splitting their vote: WHAT THE F**K???
  10. Getting off the topic of Sports Media a bit, but the number of 5-star recruits over the last 10 years by the 4 playoff teams: Alabama 44 (most) Ohio State 26 (3rd) Clemson 20 (4th) Notre Dame 5 (t-20th) So, yeah, ND's gonna get killed, but Alabama beat Georgia (2nd with 34) by 17, LSU (t-5th with 19) by 34, and Texas A&M (8th with 14) by 28, so we might as well just have a 3-team playoff from now on.
  11. People buy so hard into political rhetoric that they don't think for themselves at all anymore. My mom has several friends she knows from back in high school that are public school teachers in Indiana, and post complaints on Facebook about low teacher pay sandwiched in between QAnon-fueled right-wing conspiracy theory memes, not even bothering to notice that it's the Republican-controlled state legislature that won't give them more money.
  12. There were four games this weekend in which a team scored 40 points: By the Packers By the Bears Against the Vikings Against the Lions
  13. "Benetti strikes a near-perfect balance between taking the game seriously and just sitting back and enjoying baseball." "One of my favorite booths in the game. They mix “new school” analytics with classic analysis and seem to have an enjoyable time doing it." Those two quotes sum up why I love this pairing.
  14. How can there be pass interference on a pass that the receiver caught 2 yards beyond the end line? The Bears took this gift and managed to get only 3 points instead of 7.
  15. Late game last night: down 1 with 1:05 left, 3rd and goal at the 1, Dolphins with no timeouts. Raiders opted to kneel, run the clock down and kick the FG. Dolphins hit one deep pass, tacking on a roughing penalty, and get a FG to win. So, if your choices are to be up 5 or 7 (depending on whether or not you make the 2 pt conversion) with 1:01 left or up 2 with 0:19 left, doesn't taking the TD give you a higher win probability?
  16. Either that or they could miss the playoffs because Robbie Gould just missed his first FG of less than 50 yards in quite a while.
  17. Why are there three pages about trading for a guy with a career 4.33 ERA?
  18. Anyone else following the bizarre situation in Nashville? An RV parked on 2nd Avenue explodes at 6:30 am on Christmas, when that block would have the fewest people on it at any time during the year. About an hour before, someone called in to 911 reporting shots fired at that location. Police responding to the shots fired call heard a repeating recording coming from the RV warning them that it was going to explode. Everything taken together makes it seem as though somebody wanted to destroy that block yet cause the least possible human harm.
  19. I've had a couple people tell me that the amount you receive is based on your 2019 income but the amount you're entitled to is based on your 2020 income, so if your 2020 income is lower you will get the rest of it when you file your 2020 return. Please check on that though because I've not seen anything official.
  20. I guess I should have been more detailed in that I understand that for SOME degrees it really does matter where you go to school but there are a lot of things like business, engineering, even pre-med and pre-law where you can do very well in the community college/regional university path.
  21. If these "food guys" have such good inside info, why didn't any of them mention this guy (Cespedes) once before news of the signing broke?
  22. An awful lot of student loan debt is unnecessary anyway. You can do 2 years at a community college and 2 years at a regional campus of a state university and finish a degree with very little debt and have pretty much the same earning potential as 4 years at a major state university or private college/university. Why pay $1000 per credit hour at a top state university or $2000+ at a private college/university to take essentially the same freshman English lit requirement that you can take at a community college for $150 per credit hour? It's true that you don't get the same "college experience," but if that's what you're going into debt for then the government shouldn't be paying for that.
  23. So on at least two previous occasions, was he actually planning to drink and drive, or was he planning not to and failed? Either answer makes his statement pretty ridiculous.
