  1. I had originally projected Sheets to be in the minors, but with Pollock declining his option, that moved Sheets up. Rodriguez and Ramos added to the 40-man roster yesterday, but neither projects to crack the OD roster at this point.
  2. For a team that has more resources, this makes sense, but the Sox don't. There should be ZERO position player acquisitions that aren't left or switch hitters, and that can't play 2B or LF well.
  3. I think you can hire an attorney to form an LLC and claim it in its name.
  4. If I were to ever win, I'm remaining anonymous, and giving people money anonymously.
  5. Hopefully he signs with a team the Sox play in April and May but then not after that.
  6. I love people taking 100% obvious moves and passing them off as insider information.
  7. If it were me, I'd take the lump sum, buy a house and car, then put the rest into a very long term annuity that paid me monthly income until age 80. If I live past 80, then Social Security it is.
  8. I did home (online) school for high school, so I didn't get the same opportunity to do embarrassing things as most kids.
  9. Transaction: Pollock declines player option and is bought out Out: Pollock In: Sheets SP - Cease, Kopech, Lynn, Giolito, Martin RP - Hendriks, Graveman, Bummer, Lopez, Kelly, Crochet, Diekman, Lambert C - Grandal, Zavala IF - Moncada, Anderson, Mendick, Vaughn, Garcia, Gonzalez OF - Jimenez, Robert, Colas, Sheets, Engel
  10. I just wonder if we should be punishing people for things they said when they were 14.
  11. Even if you take the 30 year annuity, after taxes you're getting something like $20 million per year, which is overwhelming on its own.
  12. Giving up Montgomery might be the right move if this were in fact the deal, but it would be tough to swallow. I really, really like him.
  13. Didn't read through all the posts, so someone may have already said this, but my guess is the Sox told Pollock that he was at best going to be the weak half of a platoon and if he wants to maximize his future earnings, he'd do better to go somewhere he can be a full time starter, even if it means he makes less in 2023.
  14. The crazy thing is that the Astros road OPS was 22 points better than their home OPS in 2017. Either they were cheating on the road too, or it didn't help all that much. Eight of the ten 2017 playoff teams were 24 or more points better at home than on the road though.
  15. @CaliSoxFanViaSWsidewhen you buy the Sox, can I be head of analytics?
  16. If Vaughn plus a couple other parts gets you someone like Jazz Chisholm, AND the Abreu money genuinely is not subtracted form what gets spent on other needs, yeah, that works.
  17. With the 3-batter rule, a decent righty is more valuable than a washed up lefty. Plus, as of now Crochet is in the bullpen.
  18. No matter how popular Jose is with both fans and the other players, you 100% can't justify re-signing him when you still have both Eloy and Vaughn on the roster. Now, if some team were to somehow come along and blow the Sox away with a trade offer for one of those other two guys BEFORE Jose has signed somewhere else, that would change things, but I see that as pretty unlikely.
  19. Only including guys in the organization, what is the 26 man roster today? I think this exercise helps to sort out what the most urgent needs are: SP - Cease, Kopech, Lynn, Giolito, Martin RP - Hendriks, Graveman, Bummer, Lopez, Kelly, Crochet, Diekman, Lambert C - Grandal, Zavala IF - Moncada, Anderson, Mendick, Vaughn, Garcia, Gonzalez OF - Jimenez, Robert, Colas, Pollock, Engel I listed Gonzalez for the 26th spot, but I think you could argue Sheets or Sosa as well. In any event, it should be pointless as there's clearly going to be at least one middle IF addition and probably OF additions as well. I expect Engel to be non-tendered but until he is, he's there. I expect a SP addition so Martin can go be depth in AAA. I expect Diekman to get DFA/traded. I'd love to see Leury DFA/traded but I fear we're stuck with him. So that's a minimum of four guys (Gonzalez, Engel, Martin, Diekman) that I expect to be replaced by acquisitions through FA or trade.
  20. "Always and forever" is hyperbole, but "as long as any members of the 2017 team are still there" is appropriate.
  21. My mom's a nurse and I asked her about this when it first happened. She said someone his age and condition (known issues with alcohol) could absolutely have had some lab work come back with results so alarming that a doctor would call him and order him home immediately.
