There are five guys who at some point will be coming back from Injured/Paternity lists: Robert, Kopech, Bummer, Moncada, Anderson There are five guys who can be optioned down: Foster, Lambert, Martin, Gonzalez, Haseley First problem is that you have three pitcher who can be sent down but only two coming back. Second problem is that Bummer is on the 60 day IL so someone has to be DFA to make room for him anyway. What I think happens: Haseley goes when Robert comes back Foster goes when the first of Kopech/Bummer come back Logically, one of Lambert/Martin go when the other pitcher comes back, but honestly both of them have been better than Velasquez so I'd rather keep both of them and DFA VV. Romy goes down when the first of TA/Yoan come back. Unless they're willing to go with one fewer pitcher, which doesn't make sense, a position player has to get DFA when the other of TA/Yoan come back. Andrus seems to have earned the right to stick around, so the best bet is Payton, but if the Sox think they're going to non-tender Engel in the off season, I wouldn't be surprised to see him go now and hang on to Payton through the end of the season.

It just doesn't make sense that he would leave that close to game time if it wasn't a real medical issue. They didn't just decide 40 minutes before the game to send him packing. Now, I can totally buy that at some point he gets better but they tell him not to come back.

I have to think if they went to the trouble to add him to the 40 that he will stay and Haseley will go down when Robert is back.

I'm not giving up on Sheets, but he has options and you know there are going to be injuries so you need to have guys at AAA you can bring up that will actually hit some, as opposed to Romy Gonzalez and Adam Haseley.

Sheets has options. He's the guy you stash at AAA in case Jose or Vaughn go on the IL. You include him in a deal if another team really wants him, but don't just give him away.

If Jose wants market value then I agree the Sox should not re-sign him. If Jose wants to stay badly enough to take a hometown discount, then I don't see how you let him go. He's been the one guy who's performed consistently. Eloy is on a very team friendly deal. Even with his struggles he'll be in high demand on the trade market. He'd probably be in high enough demand that somebody would eat Leury's salary in order to get him.

I wouldn't have any problem with bringing in Ozzie as part of a last ditch effort to save this season, but only if he would publicly state that he is not interested in keeping the job and that they should go outside the organization for a permanent replacement.

If you make Eloy the every day DH, then what happens to Vaughn or Abreu? Please don't say put Vaughn in the OF, that kills his value. If you want to not resign Jose, that's really the only way to keep Eloy but I think Eloy has trade value. and I think it's time for him to go.

Two of those guys are the best hitters in the lineup and play every day. What to do with the other one should be obvious.
